Unfricking real. Two years ago I take my van there for brake problems and after spending almost $1,900 I left there with the impression my brakes were fixed with the lifetime brake pads. Well heck, two years later I go back with the assumption after talking to Bill that yes, my pads were covered under the lifetime protection. Once there, Mark informs me they re-used my old pads the last time. my reaction was WHAT??? WHY WOULDNT YOU FIX WHAT I WAS THERE FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE??? Didnt make sense. Why in the heckers would I spend all that money yet re-use the brakes that were bad in the first place? They have no idea (not surprising) so we reluctingling ask them to take a look anyway. They called us just before closing time and told us we needed a slew of things (including rotors they just replaced less than 2 years ago) Their total cost over the phone for the things they say I need was $767 and change. I told them to put my van back together & dont do a thing. We go get my van the next day. They performed an oil change and charged us, even though we said dont do anything and the bill with the services I declined said $827.37 so in the end they woula scammed me for more. Now, in the meantime we went and priced the parts for what they "claim" I need. The parts all came out to a whopping 164.63 So, that means car x would make well over a $500.00 profit? The parts alone their charge was 368 dollars more than anywhere else. Unreal!!! They are theifs scammers and I wouldnt trust them with crap!!! *********Update********** Took my van somewhere else. Only cost me $330.00. The funny thing is half of what Car-X said was wrong isnt wrong and the real problem was never discovered by Car-X. So, could you immagine they woulda prolly scammed me for 500 plus more had they had the opportunity.

I am surprised to read these reviews. I have been going to that Car-X for a couple of years and I have found them to be nothing but helpful and having a better deal on things than any of the other places I have dealt with. Bill has helped me the past few times that I was there and not only did I find him to be extremely helpful and friendly but I find his honesty is something that you dont come across very often. I too have had the brake package and I had no problem with it. I have never had a problem here and I also feel that without Bill and his help that I would have ended up being discouraged and purchasing a new car if I had taken it somewhere else. I have never gotten an unreasonable quote or had any complaint with the work that was done to my car. I look forward to continue dealing with Bill and Car-X for many years to come. I will be bringing this and any other vehicle I own to them in the future.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Took it in on my way to work because my brakes failed. When the guy asked me how long they had been crunching for and I said about a week and a half he smirked like I was an idiot. After looking at it he explained what was wrong and quoted me for over $1400 to fix it. When I decided to have it towed to my normal mechanic instead he was found under my car when the tow truck got there even though he was well aware that they wouldnt be fixing it. He then told the tow truck driver that I "wouldnt know my brakes were bad if they fell out of my car and onto the road" and when my car was taken to my mechanic it was discovered that a lugnut was missing. Dont go here until you want to get ripped off and parts of your car messed with and stolen.

No complaints here. Got a wheel alignment here after I got new tires. They were upfront and honest. They told me about coupons and came down in price when I called with a slightly lower price from a competitor. Along with others, I do not think they would try to get you to do work on the vehicle that is not needed. They said that my brakes checked out fine...unlike Havoline right down the road who said my brakes were shot and needed to be replaced immediately (see my review of Havoline).

Car-X of Crystal Lake had done an excellent job on our oil changes on Christmas Eve a few months ago and had such great customer service we knew it was the best choice to come back! This time they took the time to show us how bad our brakes were and worked with us to get the best deal and beat out budget needs. They even price matched tires we were thinking of getting at a competitor. If you havent met Craig or Scott you gotta give them a try. Trust me, itll be worth it!

I went to see Bill about getting all of my fluids changed in my car. The dealership that I went to told me that all my fluids were bad and had to be changed as soon as possible. When I brought my car into Bill he told me that this wasnt the case and could space them out over some time to save myself some money. Hes very honest, and wont try to do extra work to make any money. Ill definitely be going back in the near future for any repairs that Ill need.

Called because we heard they had a sale on tires. They stated a lower price per tire than anyone else, but refused to state any other prices when asked, saying we would need an appointment. We said wed be coming from an hour away, and they stuck by their answer. When we got there, the final price out the door matched everyone within a 15 minute drive of our home, so we left. Just a waste of an afternoon, really annoying.

They couldnt have been friendlier and more helpful. There was no trying to sell me anything. I watched how they interacted with other customers in the waiting room they were beyond professional. I always dislike going to any sort of car place because of how I have been treated. We found a new home for our oil changes and car needs.

I went 3 times. I payed my recharge , 129.00 and a performance test go find out what was wrong. And after 3 times they told me it was a condensor i left with no AC and didnt fix it wanted to charge me 380.00 after i went in 3 times. They dont know much. Except for one guy i dont know his name but besides that dont wast your money.

I was told by the manager if my truck had the 6L engine it would take and extra qt of oil. Instead of 19.99 I was charged a total of $27.20. That means I was charged $7.21 for 1 QT of oil. I think this tactic is referred to as "Bait and switch" According to my owners manual there isnt a 6L version of my truck.

I recently experienced car trouble and pulled into their parking lot because it was the closest place . Someone greeted me at the door asking if I needed help. They immediately pulled my car onto the lift and diagnosed the problem. Because it wasnt serious, they did not even charge me. Super helpful!
