I joined Eco Gym before Planet Fitness was open down the street. In retrospect, I wish I had waited. They have a flashy sales pitch going over the flex-plan option which, in theory, you can pay $0 to use. That is if you go virtually every day (I believe its at least 25 days, but around there) each month. Now, I work out every day so I thought that made sense. Unfortunately, during my time there I badly injured my knee twice. Then, throw in the holidays, vacations, etc. and there wasnt a month I could actually get a better rate than Planet Fitness down the street which has a better facility and deals. With all of that, I figured I would just have to suck it up since I signed a contract. Unfortunately, I went into work one day and found out I had to relocate across state-lines or lose my job without more than a weeks notice. When I went in, they gave me a cancellation notice. I was told during signing the contract that if something happened I would just need to bring in some documentation such as a medical note, offer letter, etc. depending on the situation. This is what I did. The first annoyance was that the office "Manager" didnt know what the form was (offer letter) and said they may not accept it because it didnt have a forwarding address in Michigan. They took it however and that was it. It wasnt until two months later when I was going through finances that I realized I was still billed for the following two-months. I thought if I called that they would take care of it. Nope. They told me that I had to give 30 days notice, and that since I gave notice on 10/8 I owed for October. However, apparently because I went 8 days into November, I also owed for November. Not even a pro-rated amount, not even the fixed rate amount which I was told I could easily switch to for days I knew I wouldnt be able to workout much by my salesperson, but the FULL amount for the months that I wasnt even living in the same state. I was blamed for everything, the office manager would take absolutely know responsibility and lacked any level of compassion or understanding. If I were you, I would not sign up here. Sure, its techy and flashy, but the people running this business do not care about their customers satisfaction or well being beyond what they are paid to. This reminds me of a company I had to cancel with in the past due to similar circumstances. However, when I was given the opportunity to do business with them again I GLADLY did because I was treated with dignity and care throughout the whole process WITHOUT outrageous cancellation fees. This company however, I would be surprised if they survived the growing workout market with the number of 24/7 gyms, competitors, beachbody on demand (which by the way is WAY more convenient and cheaper), and the list goes on. Such a shame.

This gym is DO OR DIE... a 18 month contract if you dont read things carefully. if you do not workout here almost on a daily basis, you will be paying the price, literally its like $76 a month if you dont work out for a month. $42 if you want a fixed rate BUT dont even think about canceling it unless you want to cough up $299. BUT if you are someone who works out like every day and is a fitness nut this place might be for you, but for any normal joe, get a no risk contract from somewhere else or prepare to lawyer up. DONT EXPECT ANY SERVICE, its work out or deal with the pain of no Service. Sounds like they only want people who are committed to working out all the time, cuz a person like me who struggles with lazyness has paid the price for now 20 months and its just not worth it but i did it to myself. DONT BECOME ME! They will make you feel good to sign up, but they are dirty salesman and in the end if you fall for it, its your own fault. My finger scans still dont work, theyre were times when they wouldnt count my workouts, and said it would be on the next month but of course nothing got done, seriously LAWYER UP before you sign up. Its been hell trying to get decent service, and it wasnt until 6 months in I got 3 free months out of the 18 because of how crappy everything was from a new GM Sonny. Now I wasnt going to write this review cuz the guys there arnt bad guys, they are just doing their Jobs and because I did this to myself, BUT they kicked a man while he was down, THEY TOLD ME I WAS DONE BUT CHARGED ME AGAIN AFTER I CANCELED!!!! if I needed to pay another month at least tell me that I have to! My contract was for 18 months starting from OCT... so if we use our fingers that would be from OCT 2013- MAR 2015, Ill even give them till April. But on May 20th they charged me even after I they signed off on a makeshift cancellation form on April 23rd which I took a picture of. ( lucky I have a lawyer for a cousin and I can Lawyer up and hopefully get something back but not likely.) They didnt even have any official cancellation forms there!!! WHEN YOU THINK the pain and the struggle is over, they keep hitting you, no mercy. SO SERIOUSLY the dudes here arnt that bad its just that they have a crappy system for ppl who want to leave. SO WORKOUT OR you will struggle and have financial woes, its your own fault in the end if you want to back out.

Ecogym has gotten significantly more popular than when I started a year ago. At first everything was pretty good, equipment mostly clean, lots of space to workout, etc. But it got worse over time. My first bad impression was with constant hassles to get a trainer, I tried a trainer (Axel) and he was in lala land the entire time. He was on his phone and looking in the wrong direction while telling me I was doing great. Not the best experience. My husband also tried the same guy and another girl whose name Im not sure of. He found that they had the same program regardless of which trainer. But she did a little better than he did. So we decided no training for us, it just wasnt the training style we liked. We continued to work out at the gym and all was great until a few weeks after New Years when suddenly the place got packed at most hours that we could go. People with trainers would take up large spaces and leave messes behind, it was awkward to use the cable machines and battle ropes because they are right in the middle of walkways. There was waits for machines and these guys that always wore flip flops. This gym also has a "the more you go the less you pay" deal and we would often go in after staffed hours and see a crowd hanging out and chatting, not even working out. People sitting on sofas watching tv on cellphones, etc. We went on vacation and were gone for 2 weeks and got a call offering free training for 1 month. We decided maybe while we were gone they changed some trainers, and we were right. A new guy named Austin started with my husband, he had a lot of good sides to him like explaining things thoroughly but he had equal bad sides. He only worked my hubbys legs the entire month and the last session he got free the trainer was 30 minutes late because he was chatting with his last client and my husband was standing right in front of him and he didnt notice. My experience with the sessions was different. I trained with someone who no longer works at eco gym. She was fantastic, did some workouts with me, changed things up constantly, etc. But after I decided to buy sessions for an incredibly high rate (80ish per hour) she left for medical reasons. After that and the incredible over crowding we decided it just wasnt worth it to spend $120 a month for a small gym with only the perk of private bathrooms at that point.
