I signed up with Planet Fitness on 1/28/16. The sales clerk, Kathy told me that they are offering the black card for $19.99 per month, with no 12-month commitment and no $58 cancellation fee. So I signed up for it. When I got home I reviewed the contract and on sentence # 2 it said, “this membership has a 12 month minimum term”. On sentence # 7 it said, “if your membership has a minimum term and you wish to cancel there is a $58 buyout fee”. I was flabbergasted. On 1/29/16 I called and asked them to send me an updated contract. The clerk explained to me that they cannot do that. So on 1/30/16 I asked to speak to a manger to help resolve this issue. No one got back to me for nine days. So on 2/9/16 I called again and asked to speak to a manger. Vanity called me back within a few minutes. Vanity was rude and interrupted me several times. I asked her why is it that no one got back to me? Waiting for nine days is not reasonable and I was more than patient. She told me that I did not request to speak to a manger and that I was a liar!!! Ok so I have nothing better to do than make things up right? I then moved on to my issue. Vanity just argued with me and was confrontational. I simply asked for her to send me an updated contract or written documentation that states I do not have a 12-month commitment. I think that is pretty reasonable right? Well for Vanity it was not. Vanity said, “the computer system states that you do not have a 12 month contract”. I asked if they could send any form of documentation? Vanity said in a condescending and belligerent tone “sir I am not going to repeat myself over and over again. If you wish to cancel your membership or lower it to the $10 per month plan I can help do that for you. I can not send you any documentation”.. She also said she has the right as a manager to cancel my membership. I was flabbergasted and stunned. All I wanted to do is resolve this very simple matter. I told her that I was going to write an online review about this incident because she did not want to do anything proactive to resolve my issue. Vanity said “that is fine because I will write a short review about you also” and then boom she hung up the phone on me. To the person who owns this particular franchise, do you condone this type of behavior? I am simply asking you to send me an updated contract with the agreed upon terms or other written documentation. What is so unreasonable about that? To anyone who is thinking about joining this particular location, think twice. If you try to resolve your issues with the general manager Vanity she will just bully you and then hang up on you.

4/2/2016 - Terrible management, I asked the front desk to cancel my membership, I left thinking it was cancelled till about a month afterward which I realized there was a charge on my account for $19.99. I asked the people working there and explained my situation that I wanted to cancel it in the first place, because I guess there was a "miscommunication" and they were pretty understanding so they issued me a refund. They said it would take about 3-5 business days but its been about a 11days now which is a huge difference. (made me realize that they just lied about giving me a refund). Prior to this experience, the first time I called they directed me to corporate planet fitness (because the guy i was taking with said that it wasnt up to them to issue a refund) , and when I asked for the corporates phone number they had no clue what it was. Which just shows how people working there are clueless to how things run in this gym; even if they didnt know is it that hard to ask someone how refunds work? Like honestly. So I did my own research which is absolutely unnecessary for a customer to do (to find the damn corporate planet fitness number). I called them and they said that it was up to the branch to issue a refund. Which I was absolutely baffled about, I have had it up to here with this location of planet fitness. I dont recommend this place. Go find other gyms to work out at. Will update this post a week from now to see if they give me my refund. Which Im starting to doubt they wont, ill probably get that refund 3 years from now at this rate. 4/20/16 No refund. They took my money and I didnt even go to their gym. didnt use the weights or anything, they said that I couldnt get a refund cause there was a fee. and that I should be lucky cause 20 dollars is less than the damn cancellation fee. But I told whoever that goddamn person in the front desk to cancel two of my memberships. She only cancelled one of them, which was ofcourse the cheaper one. I applied and cancelled my membership the day afterward. I talked to a manager today and she said that I was supposed to sign a waiver to cancel my membership, which that girl never gave me? Is it really my fault that your goddamn front desk doesnt know how to listen to a customer and know the process of cancelling a damn membership? Glad to say im never coming here again. Thanks for stealing my money. You should go use it to train your dumb ass employees.

Im a guest here, but take my client here who has autism. So far, i do not have any complaints about the service here. If i didnt live far away, Id definitely open up a membership here, but the drive isnt worth it; even though they have that $10 monthly rate. Im so much happier using my neighborhood gym, and it being only 100 meters away from my place. No offense to Planet Fitness! The gym itself isnt bad for a $10 monthly charge; that you are able to cancel at any time. Ive only been here a handful of times, but Im definitely not new to any gym. If you are all about saving money, and dont care about things like group sessioned workouts, such as zumba, spin, yoga, etc; then you might love it. For it being $10 you cant really complain about anything. What simply amazed me about this gym, but not enough to get me to sign up was the massage chair area; where you can lounge and watch television. Sure it cost money, if you dont have the highest membership rate, but its the thought that counts. Me, myself would probably say "The hell with this workout, Im lounging today!", hehe, jk. I recommend this gym, if you want to save; live in the area, or either, if you live out of range, and dont care about the drive, and extra group sessioned workouts. So far, Planet Fitness is the cheapest gym Ive seen in Chicago, but yet still has the workout machines you need to get in shape.

Got my black card membership for $19.99 as I planning to do workout on budget, been a member of FFC my college days and later Xsports for a long time... This place is not as bad as I heard, the staff is nice to people and the gym is clean and I myself saw them cleaning almost everyday when I workout. Granted they dont have that many free weights especially no benches to do barbell press or no barbells to do deadlift but have smith machines to compensate. I go around noon and the place is pretty free of people no need to wait for equipment to workout. "No Gymtimidation" and "Judgement free zone" really really works no one bothers you while working out. Theres a cheaper option for $10 per month but if you want your location flexible and take a guest with you to any location black card is best bet. I never tried the massage or tan and I dont think I ever do. Bottom line if you are a serious bodybuilder and need lots of heavy free weights planet fitness may not be for you but if you are a normal person(I see so many elder members I dont see in another gyms)and want to do normal workout and be fit on a budget this is the place. I know people complaining about pizza and bagel days but I dont mind a cheat meal once in a while and workout in the 12 minute ab zone will help with it.
