If there was ever a "hidden gem" in the ballroom world, Ballroom East comes pretty close to defining it. Seeing as there arent many dance studios in the Midwest to begin with, it can be difficult finding that niche training one would need to complement a regiment worthy of a dancesport competitor (I suppose social dancers would also get excellent training/choreography as well). My primary dance experience has been from studios in all of Ohio (since I live in Cincinnati) and I can definitively count on one hand as to the number of instructors that excel at International Standard (Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep), let alone ballroom dancing in general, in the entire state (Ive also taken lessons in the Akron/Cleveland/Youngstown and Columbus areas when I lived up there). Of course, Linda and Charles can teach all the other styles as well (International Latin, American Smooth/Rhythm, Social, etc.), I just prefer to keep my training to what they know best. After all, at one point in time they were the United States Rising Star Champions in Standard. To be honest, my experiences may not pertain to many who enter this studio. Most are looking for that natural first-time experience of dancing with two left feet, and thats okay! For those who are past that and are delving deeper into the ballroom world, I would look to this quickfire checklist for the gist of my review of this studio: 1. Pricing: A steal. Trust me on this. Both on social AND private lessons. 2. Environment: Right off the highway, tucked behind a restaurant. Minutes away from malls and whatnot (I think someone called it the Heart of St. Matthews?). 3. Interior: Normal competition floors are 80x40(If not bigger), theirs is 70x35. It used to be a ballet school, so the wood flooring has some spring to it and is excellent for dancing. 4. Quality of Profession: If youre looking for a wedding dance instructor, theyre all you need. If youre looking to go to Blackpool/2020 Olympics in Tokyo to compete in Dancesport, theyre all you need. Heck, many of my early-morning Saturdays start off with a 90-minute trip to Louisville, staying until the end of their USA Dance Socials. Is it worth it? Of course.

I recall my aunt encouraging me to come dance with her on a Friday night when I was about 9. At first, I was reluctant at the idea but nonetheless chose to follow her. When I had arrived at the studio, I was not expecting the sight in front of me. If you were to ask me what dance was then, I wouldve given you a completely different answer than what I would give you now. One things for sure, Ballroom Dancing would not have been included in my answer. Walking into that studio felt like walking into a whole new world. A world that I was not very familiar with. Heels hitting the hardwood floor, hands linked togther, and music my generation would not have considered "pop" enough. I immediately recoiled at the idea of having to partake in these dances. I thought my night was ruined. Boy was I wrong. An hour later, I had learned about 4 different dances with my aunt--the smile on my face felt permanent. I didnt want to leave. Flash forward 4 years later, Im currently a student taking private lessons at Ballroom East. I have been taught by Linda Jackson, Chase Abell, and Charles Jones. To those who are hesitant or are considering in participating in Ballroom Dancing, I encourage you to go for it! And I would direct you straight to Ballroom East. It is not only a great learning experience, but it is also a place where you can call home. You walk into that studio expecting to become a dancer, but you walk out with so much more. Dance, laughter, and joy are just a few of the great things that come out of that studio. I definitely do not regret coming to that Friday night dance.

I have yet to take a private lesson with any of the owners/instructors at Ballroom East, but I can comment as one who has had a long relationship with them through the excellent assortment of group lessons that they have offered over the years. As one who has only taken the group lessons from them, I feel that they are one of the best studios period for learning the social aspects of ballroom. Given the success they have had with competition dancers, they are one of the best studios all around. Regardless of the level being taught, whether its the very basic lesson they do for their Friday dance parties, to the Advanced lessons they do on a 3 month cycle of a given dance step, everyone, at any level of ability, can learn alot when they take the lessons there. I have been acquainted with the studio for around 18 years, and I can say that I still learn something new at each and every session that they teach, no matter how rudimentary the steps being taught. I should also note that at $5.00 per class, it is still one of the best bargains for group dance lessons in the area.

This is absolutely the best Ballroom Dance studio in Southern Indiana and probably the state of Kentucky. The instructors are well trained and make excellent teachers themselves. Where else around can you find students that can compete in world competition prepared by the best proven instructors? I cant figure out why people would go anywhere else, especially after seeing these instructors dance. Seeing is believing, come on out and give it a try. Where else can you get a beginners class taught by such professionals, for $5.00, for a 45 minute group lesson? Sure, you can go anywhere if you social dance, but if you want to "look better" even at social dancing, this is the place to learn. If you want to get serious about dancing, save yourself the time of looking at different studios and start at Ballroom East. They even have a kids class. Check it out.... Hope to see you there. Right behind WW Cousins on Breckenridge Lane.

My dance technique has improved tremendously since I switched to Ballroom East a few year ago. Before I know it, Ballroom East has become my second home where I go 4-5 times a week. I receive World Class instruction from Charles Jones and Linda Jackson. Being a competitive dancer, technique always comes first. If you want to be a better dancer, this is the place you need to be. The 3-month cycle group classes are well planned. If you attend 3 months in a row, you will learn the same dance from Beginner, Intermediate to Advanced levels. After one year, you will learn 12 different dances, each in all 3 levels. The Friday night parties are so much fun, we meet new people and old friends. It begins with a 45-min Beginners Group Lesson, finishes with a 75-min social dancing, where you can show off the moves that you have learned. In case I don’t answer my cell phone, you know where to find me...:)

I love dancing at Ballroom East! I took my first group class there in the fall of 2005 and was hooked! Charles, Linda and Chase are brilliant instructors who make learning fun. The progressive monthly group classes allow you to learn a particular dance through beginner, intermediate and advanced levels and the rotating Friday night classes let you experience a new dance each week then dance the night away afterward. Even after 8 years I find that there is always something new to learn! In 2007 my fiancé began taking group classes at BE too. We took private lessons with Linda to improve our social dancing and with Charles who choreographed our Wedding dance – Tango! Whether you are a beginner, returning or advanced dancer there is something for everyone at BE!
