Yes, it’s crowded, but for a maximum price of $20 a month, what do you expect? Given its value, the gym can be very crowded, especially at the times you would expect it to be (when people are on their way home from work & mid morning on the weekend), but while there is usually a machine available (especially cardio - its almost a workout getting from one end of the treadmills to the other), parking is really this locations biggest problem & theres really nothing that can be done about that. I recently moved to the area from NYC, where Id been a Black Card member of Planet Fitness. I appreciated the no frills affordability & the multiple, easily accessible locations throughout the city. The gym offers pretty much everything you need to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle (provided you stay away from the Tootsie Rolls). While there are far fewer locations in this area, & you certainly cant walk from one location to the other like you can in NYC, the Newport Planet Fitness has a lot to offer. The equipment is well-maintained & the locker rooms are generally clean. You’re getting a bargain & you’re working to improve your health. I have been to a number of Planet Fitness locations & this one rates better than most (I haven’t been a member of this one long enough to have tried its pizza night, however, so we’ll see later how that compares to NYC). Staff do a pretty good job of keeping the equipment functional & the restrooms & locker rooms clean & while I can only speak for the men’s room, they do have their work cut out for them (Seriously dudes – learn to flush the toilet. They made it easy!) Hopefully, you can find an open locker & hopefully it’s not just open because some moron threw their clothes in there & didn’t bother to put a lock on it. You’re going to see all types here: There’s an older woman who uses the ab machine for as much as 45 minutes at a time, twirling her hair between sets as if she’s the only person interested in using it (psst, dear – you’re not). There are the usual “The beach is that way” meatheads, whose main accomplishment in life seems to be walking on their hind legs (congratulations, fellas!) & the disgusting, inconsiderate tools who don’t bother wiping down the equipment after they use it, as if they think that everyone else is somehow lucky enough to be anointed by their sweat. And there are smokers – who stands outside of a gym smoking & then goes in & runs on a treadmill? Not me, but I do have to breathe it & by mile #6 it gets pretty nasty. But there are also people there who are just like you & me – those of us who might be coming in at a variety of ages & fitness levels, men & women, eager to build some muscle, shed some weight, hit the treadmill during the winter months, maintain, or return to form, or work their way back from an injury. Most of the staff are friendly & attentive when there’s the rare issue that needs their attention. This being Planet Fitness, Black Card members have access to the usual massage chairs, tanning booths & something I did not see in any of the NYC locations – a Hydro Massage bed. I’d much prefer a nap on that, instead of the 5-10 minutes we’re given, but again, the place is crowded, so you cope! I do wish they’d offer classes on the weekends, as I work during the week & I’m curious how those might compare to what I have previously experienced, but I’m fine doing my own thing. If you’re looking for a convenient & affordable place to work toward improving your health, don’t mind crowds too much, are considerate enough to wipe down a weight machine after using it & & don’t walk around in a tank top & shorty shorts thinking you’re Mr. Wonderful because you can lift heavy things, I’d definitely recommend this Planet Fitness. You shouldnt have any issue fitting in, wherever youre at in your own experience. Good luck!

Great place. I have been a member of Planet Fitness for quite some time now - earlier in Dallas and now, here. And the experience has been pretty much the same - very good, that means. Its a 24-hour fitness center with a large number and a variety of machines you can use. Ive been to this place in busiest of hours and is still able to find the machine of my choice. Machines are pretty clean from my experience. One thing different from the Dallas PF was that there is a TV on individual machines (cycles and treadmills), so you dont have to look very far to enjoy your favorite shows while exercising. They have this black card membership which gives you access to message chairs, hydromassage beds, tanning beds etc. But, to be honest, I didnt find them so interesting or impactful enough worth that investment. The only advantage, on the other hand, is that you get to take a guest for free along with you - but then the monthly fee is also double in case of black card membership. The washrooms are pretty neat. I havent used the showers, though, but from the outside, they looked just fine. There is a water purifier station outside the washrooms where you can fill up your bottle which is pretty handy during long workout sessions. The staff is pretty good and friendly. Overall, I find Planet Fitness pretty great to maintain a healthy workout routine.

Very poor business practices. You will notice when you sign-up that you are rushed to signed a keypad where it is virtually impossible to read the details of the contract. Planet fitness is quick to accept a membership, but if you move away, they require certified letter to cancel. Sounds to me like a policy meant to make it difficult to cancel even if you can not attend the club by which you joined. A call to local customer service was useless and resulted with a hang-up from the Newport manager named April (I think). I wont support businesses that make it difficult to cancel while they continue to auto-charge for unused services. I"m not sure how a 4+ rating is provided, as the scores I viewed and averaged together support a 2.6 rating...maybe a google issue...

I singed up for Planet Fitness, then they send me an email that says my card didnt work, so I figure that is that. But it seems now it does work because they took $70 off it this month. And not only will they not refund the money they took off a card they told me doesnt work, they tell me at the desk in Newport that they not only wont refund my money, they want another $20 to cancel my account or they will continue to take $$ every month from the card they claimed didnt work. Horrible service, with a little extortion thrown in.

This Planet Fitness expanded in 2016 and got almost all new equipment in the summer of 2017. I cancelled the "cancel anytime" membership ($10 a month) at one point and it took 2 minutes. No issues. Made me happy to return when my scheduled allowed. The staff is great, the atmosphere is welcoming and clean, and equipment is sufficient. I would like to see the expanded TV channels brought back, but would still recommend this gym to anyone looking for a casual work out.

I come here once a week after I get off work and Ive always had a pleasant experience. This is also the location I got my planet fitness membership from and the staff was very courteous and helpful when I first signed up. It can be difficult to find parking around prime time but theres always plenty of machines available. I also like that theres a Fresh Thyme right next door.
