I drive by Rising Sun every morning on my way to work. I lived in the Greenbelt area for many years, and am familiar with this business, but have never used it, until tonight. My daughter had car trouble while on campus at UMD. It is 11:30pm, and we are waiting to see if her car will start. She has tried to correct the problems on her own, but we are not sure if the corrections will take. In preparation of potential need of a tow, I called Rising Sun, which is listed on Angies List. Since it was after hours, I called their counter-part, Past and Present Towing. While on the phone with very nice person, my daughter called on the other line, and I needed to take that call. No worries. Within minutes, a gentleman name Walter from Hannon Towing called, checking on the need for a tow truck!! He was on his way to the campus! I had to tell him to "stand by" as we were not sure if my daughter would need a tow. Walter said this was fine. About 15 minutes later, he called to see if there was news, and if my daughter was ok. Still needed to say "stand by." Again, he was fine with this. Having experienced tow companies and telephone conversations that have resulted in absolutely no help - receiving service of this high quality is beyond what I had anticipated. End of story is that my daughter was able to get her car started, and drive it home. It is good to know that if this should happen again, that Rising Sun, and their partners - Past and Present Towing, and Hannan Towing (Walter) are there!!! and Here!!!! in a flash! I will not forget! Thank you!!!

When I first brought my van to Rising Sun in 2013 I felt really good about these guys. Today I brought the same van in for rumbling, stalling problems and now Im not so sure. They charged me $200 just to plug the engine into the diagnostic equipment and tell me the mass air flow sensor is bad. Fine. The last mechanic I went to plugged the engine into the same kind of diagnostic equipment and explained everything he saw to me while we stood together. He made no charge for doing so. Different people, different practices and prices.. I get it. However, They went on to tell me it needed an oil change. This confused me because it had an oil change on 7/23/15, and I told him so. The gentleman on the phone stuck to his story, saying that the oil change sticker in the window was old. I replied that the sticker was not old, that it is new, and that it clearly states 7/23/15 as the date of the last oil change. I consciously looked at the Jiffy Lube sticker on my way to the garage. I dont know why he thought an oil change was remotely within context of why I brought my vehicle there in the first place. It made me wonder if he wasnt paying attention and was just looking for things to charge me for. Im not slamming them. Im not praising them either..... Im just unsure, and out $200,

I had a great experience with Rising Sun Motors and it was by chance. On the way to work a few weeks ago, my car "quit" just as I was approaching a busy intersection where this business is located. Soon as I saw the warning light, I had no choice and coasted onto their lot and it shut down. Although I drive past the shop every day, I knew no one there and had absolutely no history to draw on with them. The manager came out and looked at my car. I was truly at their mercy. He diagnosed the problem and told me if I could wait an hour (I obviously didnt have an appointment), hed have me on my way. I braced myself for the bill - it was just $47. Couldnt believe it. I was fearing the big "$800-1000 this and that" bill and all I needed was a small part that even with labor, came to just $47. I hate to pre-judge but we all know how auto repair shops can "take you" when they dont know you and they have you over a barrel (out of town, broken down, etc.). I thought I was going to get zinged. Didnt happen in this case. I will be back.

I have a Honda Civic with nearly 100k on it and have used Rising Sun for everything over the last few years. I went to them on a friends recommendation and have been overwhelmed with the quality of my experience. Work Ive had done: 30k service, oil changes, fuel system flush, brake pad replacement & MD inspection. All work was done same-day and the friendly staff was happy to explain everything before the service was completed. At no point did I feel that they were recommending unnecessary work and all prices were well within what the dealership would have charged. Not the cheapest place in town - but the customer service is superb and they stand behind their work. Try getting that at the local Honda dealership - but thats another story. Highly recommend this place - I mean, they even send you cute notes after every visit to make sure youre happy with the service. Their hours are not stellar - no weekends, but their key drop makes it easy to leave the car before work, and pick it up when its convenient.

Please do not go to this auto repair shop. This is the worst experience I have ever had with an auto repair shop. They tried to take advantage of me knowing I was a college student and over charge me $400, said it would take 1 week (even though the place across the street did it in 4 hours), tried to tell me $3000 worth of things were wrong with my car, and when I got my car towed to the auto repair place across the street (8900 Rhode Island Ave, College Park, MD 20740) they made sure that my car was on the lift when AAA got there and would not take it down until I threatened to write them a bad review. So, I had to have the tow truck come another time to get my car. In addition, I told them how much I needed my car for work, and they still did not budge on their 1 week estimate, even though it was changing the starter which only took 4 hours at the other auto repair shop. If you are a college student like me go to the address I listed above and save yourself the time and hassle it took me.

I highly recommend Rising Sun Motors. Ive been coming to them to service my cars for over 10 years because they know how to the do the job right the first time. They also provide excellent customer service as they go over and above what is expected. They take good care of my car and I see the same faces every time I come. The people who work at Rising Sun are happy and there is very little turnover. Its hard to find a place like this. They provide exceptional quality because they care about the work that they do and they care about their customers. There are many of us who have been long-term customers and we often share our good stories while we are in the waiting room. I dont go anywhere else to get my car serviced.
