Let me start by saying, when my wife and I were shopping for home improvement companies we did our research and thought S&K was the best option. We contacted them and they sent out- I think his name was- Dwayne (sorry if i have it wrong). He was great. He went over our options, was very clear on what to expect, and we were excited to have them start. We made our choices style wise and decided we would replace our whole roof and all the siding on our home, for a total price of about 21+ thousand dollars. This again was ok with us as we were ready to make the investment in our home, so our 10 month old daughter could grow up in something we knew would stand the test of time. We went in on a Saturday signed some contracts and paid 7+ thousand as a deposit, again things are still great "Cindy" who initially helped us was fantastic. A couple weeks later we were called and scheduled to have the roof installed first, i gladly took time off work to ensure the crew had no questions at the time that the job started. Well come the day of the job i was told the crew would be to my home around 8 am, on the morning of the job i get a call that says the crew would be delayed but would be there by 11 am guaranteed. I can understand delays in construction things happen, so i said ok just keep me informed. The second start time comes and passes without as much of a phone call letting me know what is going on, so i call the office, i am told this never happens and they should be there working. I again state i have taken the day off work to make sure i could answer any questions and be of any help. So again i am told they will call the crew and find out what happened. At around 2 or 3 i get a call that says sorry but they will start tomorrow and that this never happens. I was angry at this point but what as a consumer can you really do, you are at this point 7,000 dollars in. So the roof crew starts and the roof is completed the foreman for the roof crew was very nice and pointed out some trouble spots, i thanked him for his work and we moved on. A week or two later not sure on exact timeline between jobs, but i am called and informed my siding is scheduled to be done the crew will be there between 8-9 am, i say wonderful i took off work to ensure i could answer any questions and ensure the crew could use our restroom if needed. ( i should have known better than to take a day off). So again the crew is late with no explanation, somewhere between 12-1 pm, i call the office and i am informed that the office is in a meeting and they would get back to once they come out. I am called by cindy who says again the crew should be there, and she would call me back when they knew more. Eventually the crew shows up at 3pm works for an hour and then leaves for the day. At this point i am furious, but i keep my composure and just want to get the job completed. So i took the next day off as well to make sure the crew didnt need anything, and if any questions came up i could answer them. ( i actually took Wed, Thur, and Fri off). So work continues on the home, i think all is going well they work until about 4 pm and then head home. I do a walk around my house to ensure no nails are around as we walk our boxer out back and wouldnt want the dog or my wife to step on any nails, to my surprise and this is no exaggeration though it may seem like one, there are literally dozens of nails in my drive way, on my walk way up to my house and all over my yard, upon further inspection i walk around the side of my house, and there is a fresh URINE stain in the corner of my house, at which time the neighbor behind me comes out and informs me they saw a man urinating in the corner of my house, and thought i would like to know, i was home all day and told the crew they could just knock and use our bathroom. ( i know people reading this are thinking, no way this can happen, but i have photos of all of this!!!!!). I have more to post but i have met the character limit, lets end with i still have problems with leaks and not sealed. Thanks

We hired S&K to remove the existing 1 layer roof from our house and shed and install CertainTeed SureStart Plus 4 Star Integrity Roof Systems, which included an upgrade to CertainTeed Landmark Pro Limited Lifetime Premium Designer fiberglass shingles underlain with CertainTeed Roofers Select High Performance underlayment. The installation included Ultra Dual Pipe Collars, aluminum chimney flashing, apron flashing, step flashing, WinterGuard on the 1st three feet from the gutter edge, aluminum drip edge on the rake and gutter edges, and 66 CertainTeed Ridge Vent. We upgraded our contract from a 10 to 25 year workmanship warranty. After obtaining three estimates from three roofing companies, we selected S&K for three main reasons. The first and main reason is that they replaced our siding and installed gutter guards several years ago and did an outstanding job. The second reason is that their price was substantially lower than one estimate and lower than the other estimate after a discount advertised on Angie’s list. And, last but not least, the third reason is that, even though we were happy with their previous work on our home, their current rating on Angie’s list was excellent. In addition to our house, we also had them replace the roof on our shed so that it would match the new roof on our house. This was a great decision because our old shed now looks brand new. Similar to the siding job, S&K did an outstanding job on both the house and shed. Everyone involved was extremely responsive, professional, and friendly, including Eric in Sales, Crystal and Mary in the office, and the work crew, who amazed me with their skill, speed, protection of gardens and walkway/porch, and clean-up. Throughout the entire process, I think I had responses to all of my questions within minutes, and believe me, I had a lot of questions, especially for Eric. The work crew finished the house and shed in one day, even though they had to replace several pieces of plywood due to water damage, and they did a remarkable clean-up job. The entire process from the time I contacted S&K for an estimate to the completion of the work went very smoothly. I would give S&K an A+++ rating and definitely recommend them to everyone.

One star rating due to performance and overall customer experience with S&K, based on one job. While the quality of work seems OK (not superb, not awful), the estimate was lower than expected, so I was happy to sign the proposal. But then I got the email that said, "gee, we really wont be able to start your job for weeks because were all backed up with other work," I began to see the signs that those low proposals are a likely due to a thin operation. When I found that they had subcontracted out the entire project--lock, stock and barrel--to another contractor, this suggested that the estimate could have been even lower if I had avoided S&K and gone straight to the subcontractor. What makes S&K a DO NOT RECOMMEND for me is that they have unplugged entirely from oversight of the subcontractor, who has failed to show up at all on site, day after day, leaving me wishing I had insisted on a penalty clause in the contract for failure to perform the work in a timely manner. This was after the weeks-delay in starting at all. S&K staff have only been to the site once to my knowledge (to prepare the estimate), and have not been back once to oversee or inspect the work being done on their behalf by another company, even though I suggested they needed to do so--S&K declined, and deferred to the subcontractor. We were off to a good start, then as things began to go downhill--due to failure to show up to do work--S&K declined to engage. I guess thats a "low overhead" approach that makes them attractive price-wise. But their performance as a company makes me view them as not appropriate to work on my house ever again, regardless of the quality of their work, or their cost.
