It has been a few months since I came here so my friend and I decided to come back to eat. I am on a more strict diet so there are things I wouldnt be able to eat. The menu is huge -- more like a book so it does take a while get through it and check out what you want. The place, usually around dinner time is very busy with long waits. We didnt wait long, probably about 7 minutes or so. Could have been worse, i suppose. We waited over 30 minutes once and still had to wait another minute or 2 even after our buzzer lit up. After we placed our drink order, it took awhile to get to us - it was only water. I dont know why it took so long. Maybe they took a while to cut the lemon and lime? The bread came out and they were out of wheat so all we got were white bread which my friend and I both really care for. The waiter apologized and could get us a fresh batch but there might be a few minute wait because they were out of it. We were ok with that. We didnt order an appetizer but just went straight for our entrees. My friend order her usual and I ordered the Grilled Salmon. It came with Broccoli and Mashed potatoes. I cant eat potatoes so opted for another green side - asparagus. The bread finally came and we were both starving. That was good. I chose not to put butter and it was still good. (Usually i smother it with butter... mmmm). Our entrees took a little while. The broccoli looked like they were previously frozen florets. When you bite into it, it wasnt exactly like fresh ones either -- taste just like previously frozen florets. There was no flavor to it, no crispiness, just very limpy. The asparagus was a little bit over looked and limpy as well. I do have to say, the Salmon was done just right. It was a good size piece and was not over cooked. I am however, disappointed in the 6 pieces of asparagus. We waited for the water to be refilled but that never came. When it did, we were pretty much done with our meals. Finally, after much wait, the check came. I was in shock they charge an extra $1 for asparagus. I asked the waiter about it. He said the computer automatically charged me it because I substituted a different side. When did this happen??? There was nothing written on the menu that theyd charge you extra for sides. What if you cant eat certain foods?? So obsurb and never heard of. He apologized for it but didnt offer to talk to a manager... so we opted to give less than our usual generous 20% tip because clearly he didnt deserve it. We didnt get dessert either because neither of us were happy with the service and didnt want to stay longer than we had to.

So the first family trip to Boston did not end in a stellar experience at the Cheesecake factory. The restaurant is very clean and we were seated quickly for being as busy as they were. Our waiter greeted us promptly but his first impression was less than friendly. He asked "what do you want to drink" with about as much charisma as a rock. Now my wife and I were both waiters and bartenders in college so we understand what they go through, but a little personally goes a long way and his trip was pretty short. We ordered our drinks and asked that he enter our kids food order so they could get it before ours. I ordered a Killians (beer). He returned with all our drinks except mine. He informed me that they did not have that beer, so I asked for a Honey Brown. He came back and guess what, they did not have that either. I would think that a waiter should know what beer they have, call me crazy. I ended up with an iced tea. Now the kids meals came out with the appetizer which was good. Our meals followed shortly behind that. I had the teriyaki chicken. the skin was pretty chewy and the chicken was fairly gnarly. I cut around most of the crap and ended up eating about 50% of the chicken. The best thing about my meal was the rice. The squash and pineapples were completely over cooked (How do you over cook pineapples??). Id rate the meal a 4 out of 10. My wifes meal was decent. She had an eggplant sandwich and outside of the cheese that was burned it wasnt bad. We give that a 7 out of 10. During the entire meal we saw our waiter once, when I asked for a refill on my iced tea. The kids meals were good but they both got pasta with butter and cheese. The only issue there was my son asked for extra cheese and as I write this review, we are still waiting for it. So overall the environment was nice, food was less than average and the service was really bad.

I havent been to The Cheesecake Factory in many years, but had fond memories of it and admitted freely to liking it as a chain restaurant. However, my visit to this Boston location left me wondering what exactly I used to like about this place. To cut right to the chase, the food just isnt very good. I had the mini crab cakes for a starter. The crab cakes were saturated in grease and had a soggy consistency. I couldnt detect any real crab meat in them. I wasnt expecting a Baltimore jumbo lump crab cake, but these were certainly below average. They had the consistency of the tuna youd find in a cheap tuna sandwich and had little taste to speak of. Im not sure what the dipping sauce was (mustard something?), but it was the only thing that gave these lifeless crab cakes any real flavor whatsoever. For a main course, I had the ahi tuna salad. This was edible, but nothing I would order again. It was mostly greens, which were wilted and soggy in (an admittedly tasty) dressing, and there were about 5-6 small pieces of seared tuna on one side of the plate. The tuna was clearly not freshly prepared, but this much I expected- it still tasted good. On the other side of the plate was a browning piece of avocado, and some tasteless tomato slices. This was the salad. Service was friendly, but slow. All in all, I remember liking their pastas. If I ever do go back, I think Ill stick with those.
