Yelp conveniently places most 1 and 2 Star review out of view in the category of "not recommended" at the bottom of the Yelp review page. If you want a real sense of how poorly this place is run, just look at the 38 reviews listed as not recommended - 30 of the 38 are 1 star. I left a review last week - see below. A corporate response promised swift action, yet today - 4 days later - the locker rooms are over 100 degrees, there was clearly no intention of fixing the issues noted below. Floor is slippery, a hip fracture waiting to happen. Kind of a joke that the corporate office has enough influence to push the common horrible reviews into a category that does not impact the overall star rating. OMG, buyer beware. Earlier review: I want to love or at least like this place but they continue to annoy me and other members with ridiculous system problems and really problematic physical plant issues. Every other month, the air conditioner craps out and the place becomes steamy and dangerous to work out in. Front office staff and management is never responsive, they just shrug their shoulders and say no manager is on or the thermostat is controlled by the Corporate Office remotely (so change the system so it is controlled locally, like with the thermostats they have locked up on the wall but are not allowed to unlock and touch). This week, the AC was down for 3 days. Steam was dripping off the ceiling onto the equipment and power outlets so they just put signs up shutting down the machines. Everything was wet and slippery. Over the past few months this has been a regular occurrence. Despite the highest monthly membership fees in the area by far ($79/month), they will not invest in any updates to the HVAC system. The local staff is not authorized to call a technician to fix the problem, so days go by until the corporate office (who never has to deal with drenching sweat or risk electrocution) finally approves another temporary fix. This winter, the heat went out and the gym was literally 40 degrees. Again, no investment in genuine repairs, just patches to preserve the corporations profit margins. There is never any offer to rebate a prorated portion of membership fees, even when the environment is disgusting or dangerous (again, see corporate profit priority). The reason they locked up the thermostats is that staff would turn the temp down when the system broke, trying to eek out a little more cooling. This would not work because the pipes were frozen and again, the system is not upgraded of functional with any reliability (that would be a permanent fix though costly). Nobody would allow these physical plant problems to continue in their own home, yet this site allows it to persist for years now. When the heat or cooling is working, the gym is quite clean, with good access to machines and weights. The personal trainers are excellent. If they could just get their corporate heads out their a---, and permanently fix the physical plant, it would be a lovely, though again very expensive, option for a local gym.

Think about this: Who is more likely to right a review, someone who is happy, or someone who is pissed off about something that is most likely the fault of their own arrogance. Im gonna be the guy here that is going to honestly say that I have no idea what these angry people are talking about. I love this gym. The staff are super friendly, the equipment is in great shape, the pool is maybe a little warmer than Id like, but its a good temp for a heated pool. The locker room is big, and I very much appreciate the coat hangers and full length lockers in which I hang clothes I later wear to work. It even has a living room in it with a TV that plays sports center in it. The membership staff were not only helpful, but not pushy at all and have addressed me by name ever since I started going there. Thats the kind of stuff that nobody does. Not only is it good business, but it shows that this place is trying to hire not just anybody. They want it to be a place that you belong. Look, I get it, its an expensive gym. I pay $80 a month and have access to the whole network of clubs. When Im in Boston I walk into any of their like 15 other gyms on every block in every major part of the city and get treated like I walked into my own house. Thats worth it alone. If you have the financial means, and find yourself around the city in meetings, join this gym.

This club is nice. Generally it is clean and the equipment is not broken. It is really the only gym in the area if you live in Bedford, Lexington, s. Burlington area. But if you are willing to travel then it is fine. Overall I think the gym was just okay for my needs, but it is a good gym, which is why I give it 3 stars. I finally decided it was time to leave when they put that big UFX extreme training (crossfit wannabe) in the middle of the gym. It takes up a huge amount of room - and is generally only used by the trainers and their private lessons. It makes EVERYTHING else cramped. It is 80 bucks a month. For that you are getting a pool and a tennis court (year round) so if you use it it is worth it. For me I was there for cardio and weights - and with places like planet fitness and others, the cost difference is huge for the same items I am using. One great thing is when you cancel it isnt a hassle. It isnt like Golds Gym where they make you send a certified letter to Texas or wherever, and then make you jump through hoop after hoop to get it canceled, which ends up taking 3-6 extra months of payments until it is officially canceled.

This is the worst managed club as well as the worst managed company I have ever been a customer of. Not only the current manager, but also the previous manager, does not return phone calls and when you finally get hold of them, they do not do what they agree to do. For example, I was on a membership hold due to traveling on business and was charged the full amouont. When I finally got to speak to the manager, he said he would correct it and did not. When I got my next credit card bill, and called again to have it corrected, he didnt call back. Then I called the main office for the entire Boston Sports Clubs company. I was on hold for 20 minutes. When I got to a person, she said the system was having problems and it took another 20 minutes to get to my record. Then she said she saw the problem but she couldnt get into the system so she would call me back. She didnt call back. I have a terrific personal trainer there but after having billing problems on and off for several years, and having to spend all this time chasing after the manager and the central office to get them fixed, I just dont want to put up with it any more.

The facilities are not bad, you have enough resources to do what you need to do. The reason I am giving a poor review was due to their customer service on billing inquiries. I had to move out the Bedford/Lexington MA area and it is a nightmare to cancel your membership with them, they will not stop the monthly charge, i had to pay a visit in person. When i tried to speak Ashley, the account manager of the Lexington site over the phone, it is very unresponsive and not resolving my issue. My account has been closed and 4 weeks later they just charged $150 dollar on my account for no reason, no explanation and no heads-up about it. Hoping that I will not read my credit card bill statements so they can get away from it. Thats my experience with Boston Sports Club (BSC) at this location. Just keep in mind guys
