Their son was our salesman. I tried to smile as he entered our home, but I could tell he was going through a process in his own mind - psyching himself up for the sales pitch. He appeared serious and unfriendly. Upon hearing we hadnt gotten quotes from other companies yet (but were planning to), he seemed to devise a plan to get us to sign that day. Mentioning discounts and quickly doing the math, he SAID we were getting a great deal. I have no clue if we did because I dont know window prices. But when my sister and I needed time to talk to each other about the decision, he went out to his car and said, "Ill let you talk and will be back in a few minutes to see if you know what you want". His tone and attitude were terrible, and of course the great offer was for today only. My sister and I wanted to lock the door and never see him again, but we needed the windows done fast so we went with Kroll. Plus the price quote didnt sound too bad from the prices we read on the internet. We got a surprise when we went to sign, as the contract showed the final price to be $300 higher. Josh explained the extra was for city permits they pull. Not knowing better I signed and paid the deposit. I called the city after he left and discovered permits arent needed for new windows. I called the main business line and asked his father (the owner) for the price to be adjusted since Josh had made a mistake. I also informed his mom of how high pressure he was. Josh called me back and cleverly worded that while the permit thing was a mistake, the good news is that theyll be able to order my windows quickly. I left things alone because this was my ultimate goal. Several different people showed up at my house to measure the windows. Some were unannounced visits, but the windows got done by 2 different companies. Kroll never mentioned to me that they are a contractor. I wouldve actually liked to research reviews and BBB records of the companies myself before agreeing, but whatever. I took before, during, and after pictures - and so far so good. The windows are fine. There were a few issues though... I DID ask for the cheapest windows and feel a slight cold draft unfortunately. One window makes a light popping noise whenever the temperature fluctuates, but it rarely wakes me up. And there was an issue with the basement windows leaking water but only during extreme rain and wind. Otherwise theyre dry and seem fine. So thankfully I dont have too much regret. But I wouldnt choose Kroll in the future because of the son and fathers attitude, tone of voice, and lying about the city permit. Also I could sense some attitude from a few of the contracted company workers. When asked about the leaks, one guy said, "Ive been doing this for a long time" and seemed annoyed with me. The other workers seemed to argue amongst themselves regarding if my window was put in correctly (the window with the popping sound problem). Apparently the younger worker was right in expressing concern. But I read that these kinds of problems are very hard to correct, so I figured things could be worse. Atleast the glass hasnt cracked or anything.

I was referred to Kroll by a neighbor for a new roof. Kroll was on the cheaper end of the six quotes I received from different companies, but being a new homeowner, Im not in a position to spend $20k on a roof. That being said, my neighbors roof looked great and mine needed to be done immediately. Kroll it was. Their salesman, Max, was your run of the mill salesman, I did like that I wasnt left with a mountain of product brochures like some of the other guys had left, but he certainly applied a lot more "sales" pressure than the others as well. The date for my roof installation was pushed back about 3 days, but still fell within the estimated installation window, and the roof ended up looking great. As its only been on for a week, I cannot attest to the integrity of the workmanship. I do have a concern that a very low slope area of my roof was mishandled and shingled when it should have been covered with Flintlastic or the like, again, well see how this holds up with time. The real reason for this low rating is the lack of detail shown in their crews work. Several pieces of old trim were left behind and I continue to find nails and cigarette butts around my yard. For the two days they were on my property, all that came through the window was cigarette smoke. This was distracting at best. The foreman on the job, however, was very courteous and did try to keep me informed as the job progressed. However, more infuriating than the debris left in my yard, is the debris that was left in my neighbors driveway. Being the "new kid on the block" I dont want to be the guy thats responsible for nails getting through the tires of my new neighbors... especially after hed recommended the company to me. A few days after the installation their project manager, Scott, contacted me and informed me that there would be an additional charge of $45 to replace a sheet of OSB ply on my roof. I found this interesting as my roof is not of OSB construction, it is the older plank style construction. Additionally, no one one their crew ever made me aware of any board replacement or allowed me to inspect any damaged or rotted boards. Eventually Scott said he would waive this charge (which I wont know until I see the final invoice) and asked if I had any other questions or concerns. I informed him that debris was indeed left behind and would not be picked up by my road-side service as there are still nails protruding through the material. Scott insisted that hed have somebody by to pick them up from the roadside easement, where Id placed them, but they are still sitting in my yard as I write this review (two days after the conversation with Scott). While the roof might look good for now, I am deeply disappointed in the professionalism and timeliness of Kroll when it came to this job. I very much wanted to love a business based within my city limits, but will likely seek out another contractor for any future home improvements. If cost is your deciding factor, however, and you can deal with less than professional behavior, they will get the job done.

My wife and I were initially impressed with the sales pitch and and concept of the salesperson for a complete bathroom redo. Their bid wasnt the lowest, but in fact the highest. However, complete satisfaction was guaranteed: we wouldnt have to commence payment until we were completely satisfied. The length of time for the job was quoted to be a week to ten days; again, reasonable given the magnitude of the job. Day one started on time but by the time the bulk of the work was done one day short of two weeks many glaring issues came to light. Workday start and stop times by the subcontractor were inconsistent, ranging from three hours to six hours per day with four to five being the most common. Towards the end of the job we noticed that placement of items such as the shower stall light and A/C outlet were no to our liking, a cheap generic exhaust fan was installed, and the shower door was still on backorder. Oddly, wall fixtures were mounted before painting and the painting was done by young, inexperienced men, sloppily painting over some fixtures, leaving some splatter on them and leaving some glaring unpainted spots and a general unevenness. In addition, work crew members left trash, cigarette butts in the front yard even though they had bought their own trash can to use in the back yard and I found the crew leader to be at times rude, sarcastic and defensive about the work done. Finally, the shower door was finally installed six weeks later. Thinking that the quickest way to get our concerns addressed I called one of the owners of the company. To my great disappointment, he dumped it right back into the salesmans lap. The salesman fairly promptly came back out to the house to note the concerns and promise a remedy for them, along with an apology: I must give him credit for that. Also, we give credit to the young man who did the tile work. He is very talented, providing a high quality of craftsmanship. Sadly, the negative experiences almost completely overshadowed what is supposed to be something very enjoyable. In summary, this review is a reflection of our individual experience with the Kroll Construction Company and not a general condemnation of them. If you decide to have them do some work your experience with them might be totally different, but we felt compelled to offer our individual experience to anyone considering having work being done by this company. Anytime youre shelling out upwards of $10K for a home improvement you should expect a certain level of competence, professionalism and respect.
