Worst massage & costumer service experience Ive had. I get massages quite frequently & I wanted to treat my mom & I for a massage. We live 45 mins away from each other so I couldnt use the one I normally go too. So I found Design One which is very close to her home & made 2 - "30 min" massages. When I called to make the reservations they marketed it as a "30 min massage" for "$45." When we arrived to our scheduled appointments the service desk women said "oh youre here for your 25 min massage." I of course right away explained what I was sold on the phone. Once my mom & I got into our separate rooms her masseuse said "are you excited for your "20 min massage?" I dont know what world they live in, but 30 mins is 30 mins at every other massage place Ive ever gone too. What ticks me off is not only they directly lied to me several times, but my massage sucked. The young lady was basically "tickling my back" instead of massaging it. I keep having to give her direction. This was by far the worst massage experience Ive ever had. I didnt leave relaxed at all -- it was a very bad experience. At check out I expressed my concerns & the two women who were at the service desk kept making justifications & then avoided it entirely because other guests were around. My recommendation is NOT to waste your money here. Ill never go to any of there locations ever again.

I hosted a bachelorette party at Design 1 Salon Spa this past Saturday. I called several times between my first reservation and the actual party making changes and asking questions; with every call they were very patient, courteous, and extremely helpful. They even allowed me to come set up at 9am despite our party starting at 2:30pm, the staff was even holding doors for me while I went back and forth to my car. When I called to let them know the party had gotten out of our previous class late and would be 5-10min late, they were understanding and very welcoming. The spa area its self is modern, relaxing, and very clean. I saw they even have a shower in their bathroom for after massages. It was great to have a back area where the ladies could eat and relax and quietly mingle. Everyone seemed to like their manicure/pedicure experience. My manicurist was friendly, gentle, and sure to explain why she was doing every treatment. I am very happy with my experience there. If I lived in Grand Rapids I would definitely visit again.

I moved here from Ohio and am desperately trying to find a great salon! I came in design 1 about 4 months ago. I had Jordan who was super nice... but. I wanted a perm. I have been getting perms for a long time. She insisted that, thats not what I wanted. I agreed to let her cut my hair, but it was much shorter than I wanted. Im still trying to grow it back. She was very rushed the entire time. Styled my hair just like hers and I hated it. Didnt look like any pictures I showed her describing what i wanted. I never left a salon and hated my hair as much as I did when I left that place. The color was super dark, without the hint of red I asked for. Now that I really need a perm because inches have grown out I am seeking a great salon. After reading reviews I think its clear to not go back here. I definitely do not want to get charged twice or have my hair styled the way someone else wants it. If anyone knows of a great place to go, please let me know. Thank you.

Second worst hair cut, EVER. Spent three years and a lot of tears over a bad haircut. Finally grew out a bit and went to see Hanna for a BABY cut/trim off the ends. Entire head looks like it went thru a shredder. Not sure WHY hairdressers today DO NOT LISTEN to the concerns and worries that a client tells them. She did EXACTLY what I did not want, and I am back to uneven hair, and tons of layers that every hair is a different length. UGLY! This hair cut is not what people want, and they all think its one cut fits all. Joy the manager was kind, and had another stylist look at it, and cut a little more to make it even, but I still am back to a BAD hair and will have a bad hair day for years to come. NO THANK YOU DESIGN 1.

Went to same mid level stylist 4 times . . Had a picture and each time we discussed my short hair and how I preferred to wear it. Last week was the 4th time . . Worst haircut in the 30 yrs Ive had short hair. Again I stressed short on top . . I just gel and go . . Nothing fancy. She chopped one side down to an inch! Top is over 4". Its awful! Its lopsided! Im a senior . . Looks terrible. So thanks Taylor!!! Called and talked to manager next day and asked for my money back. Only if I came back she said! Are you kidding me? Ended by saying they would indicate a " discount " in my file for next time. Poor haircut, and poor customer service, iMO.

Yesterday I dropped my sister off to get a cut and color as a Christmas present. I used design 1 due to all the great reviews, but when I came back to pick her up she walked up to and her sweater was covered in hair color. She told me that they discounted her bill because essentially they ruined her sweater. Turns out they knocked off $10. That wont buy a new sweater, on top of that it tuned her arm red and irritated her skin. I payed $103 for the stylist to spill bright orange/ red color all over my sisters arm, and she basically didnt even care. Overall just frustrated, it was my first time using them and at this point I dont think Ill be going back.

Ive gone to Design 1 Cascade since I moved to Michigan 6 years ago, and absolutely love it. The front desk staff is always very welcoming and pleasant. My stylist, Michelle, is great and the fastest at doing highlights of anyone Ive had do my hair! Even the stylists who have done my hair when Michelle hasnt been available have been really good. Everyone is very professional, talented and friendly! The pedicures are great too, and Im looking forward to trying out some of the other services too. Love that you can earn "points" and exchange them for gift cards in order to try out other services! Also love the variety of products available for purchase!

I came here for my bridal makeup application on 9/24/16. I for the life of me cant remember the name of the man who applied my makeup, but he did a wonderful job! The reception staff was very friendly and helpful. The appointment was on time and within my time restraints. My makeup was flawless and the artist was very gentle and constantly double checked his colors and applications to make sure things looked perfect. I had the airbrush and lashed applied also, and he was a magician with that. I suddenly had perfect skin and beautiful lashes! I would highly recommend them for this service.
