We bought a house through team Jim & Bernie about 2 years ago. It was a Fannie May foreclosure they represented and the maintenance of the property was being managed by a local contractor through "Asset Management Services" (out of state). Paperwork tie ups for the well & septic kept us from closing on the property for about a month (not the fault of Coldwell Banker or Team Jim & Bernie, it was a back-log at the county). We had an accepted offer on the house but in the meantime the asset management company started taking things off the property. They took some of the storm windows, they took some of the large 6 picture windows that were on site awaiting to be installed (the previous owner had left behind, over $500 in value), they took the bathroom mirror and medicine cabinet, the coat racks bolted to the walls, one of the workbenches, tore out the buried wiring that ran out to the shed, and more. The neighbors watched it happen, the asset management company signed in the visit log (Dustin F.) that they were there cleaning up, but there was nothing we could do to stop them. We followed the instructions posted on the house and called the 1-800 number (to asset management) to report a problem at the property, they called team Jim & Bernie, who called our realtor to inform us to "let it go." Id have been ok with the stuff being stolen if there was some consequence to the actions or an apology given, but in a phone call to Bernie Merkle he said that they dont pursue these issues and you just have to be ok with it. We were hoping for a face to face meeting at the closing but nobody from team Jim & Bernie showed up to the closing. The person representing the selling agency was a "mobile closer" who served as a notary public to stamp the documents and receive the money from us. We had requested all the documents for the closing from team Jim & Bernie in advance so we could read through the paperwork before the closing day, but that did not happen. We ended up sitting across from the Notary Public with her asking us to pay for the house and sign all the paperwork without reading it because she had to be in Grand Rapids for another closing soon. Are you kidding me? Overall, my rating for this experience is based on the following factors: The were able to effectively sell the house to us that we were attempting to buy. However, $2,000+ of assets disappeared in the process, documents requested were slowing in coming or not available until they exact moment that they were required to be signed, and a lack of concern to the integrity of the property they were selling, and lack of concern that this same experience might happen to someone in the future if the contractor theft wasnt addressed or at least forwarded on to the higher-ups. We had a signed purchase agreement, but nobody cared about trying to stop assets from disappearing (if they did, they certainly didnt tell us), and we never received an apology.

We worked with the Jim & Bernie team to purchase our home and everything went as smoothly as possible. Everyone in the office is friendly and Bernie even spent his Saturdays helping us find our home! He was very helpful and patient with all of our questions and solved every problem that came up.

Buyer and seller agent both worked together in this deal! Who in the hell schedules the move in and move out on the same damn day! You should know better!
