Today, I went with my fiancé to claim her "prize" from a raffle at a Whitecaps game several weeks ago. We were both incredibly excited for our free memberships as were planning our wedding, and Im vain and want to get ripped again. We were greeted by Ciara, who was plenty polite through our experience. She gave us a tour of the facilities and then sat us down to explain their membership scam. Before walking in, I told my fiancé that - under absolutely no circumstances - would we provide credit card information in this process. Previous gyms I belonged to were notoriously difficult to cancel memberships even as I moved cities and states. With Ciara, we were walked to one of the facilitys cubicles and told of the stipulations of our "free membership." The rates normally were explained as $35/month and $45/month for Basic and Full plans...fairly typical of a 24/7 gym. Our "free membership" was actually just a reduced rate by adding a monthly maintenance fee of $8/month or $12/month for Basic and Full rates, respectively. We were told that they "have to make money somehow" in this process. Its utterly embarrassing how clueless this business is. So, we won a "free membership" and were promised a stay in a variety of hotels for a weekend vacation only to be pressured into a reduced-rate membership at a gym in a state of pretty serious disrepair without the promised vacation. Im incredibly disappointed with their shortsighted, horrific business practice. Instead of a business expense to have two individuals use and bring in more business through a positive experience, Family Fitness Holland now has me - a pissed off hothead - that will surely spread the news of this poor experience and encourage others to avoid bad experiences in the future.

This place is a joke. There are hidden fees of $44 dollar per year you are in a contract that supposedly go to "gym enhancement" when nothing has ever been done to that place. They lie telling people their names were drawn from local prize boxes and won a free 30 day membership or better yet a vacation. The whole thing is a scam and sales tactic to get you in the doors. They will give you free 30 days, but you didnt win that, its offered to everyone. In addition to that they have a price sheet that shows the cost of all memberships that are outrageously priced. They then tell you sense its your first visit they will waive some enrollment and cut the membership price in half BUT its only good if you sign up that day. Not true, those are the standard prices. They all work off commission. The more they get you to put down, the more they make. Employees make 30% commission on a one year contract, 40% on a 2 year, and 50% on a 3 year. Sales reps are subject to do what they have to to sign you up. They can make the enrollment fee more or less, just depends how willing you are. Often they dnot even tell you your contract length, they use words to distract you. Then when you call to complain stating you were unaware it was a 3 year deal they expect you to pay half of the remaining balance to try to cancel. I know the ins and outs because I worked there. The manager Brian is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever met. Dont purchase anything from the drink machine because he steals all that money! I promise you youre better off going to flex, snap, even planet fitness. Dont be a victim of their scam!

Ive been holding my tongue for a while on this place, but have had it this past week. I have no problem with the staff as they are very friendly and performing their job that they were hired to do(selling memberships), but this place simply steals your money. They charge you a $45 "gym enhancement" fee once per year and they use it to reupholster the machines/benches and paint the walls. Now to me an "enhancement fee" should be used to "enhance" the gym not perform routine regular maintenance. They claimed they are getting new carpet and more mats for the free weight area but that is also a maintenance fee and should be factored into the price of the memberships. I showed up this past Friday at the gym to hit a quick arm workout only to find half of the benches being reupholstered even though there was nobody in sight working on them. I showed up that following Sunday only to find all the benches being reupholsterd still in their respective areas and have not been worked on at all. They are simply not smart with their scheduling as Friday nights and Saturday mornings are quite crowded and makes it even more crowded when you can not use certain equipment because it is being "worked on". With all the negative, the people who exercise at the gym are very uplifting and there are a lot of fun and positive people who exercise at the gym, but that sometimes get overshadowed because of the business practices that Family Fitness partakes in.

Please DO NOT bother coming to this gym! A few months ago I signed up at the Holland location. At first they were extremely friendly and were willing to answer any question. They told me that the rate I was given was great compared to others - they also asked me not to disclose. I was extremely motivated to come to the gym, so I didnt think much of it. Later, I met with a personal trainer who I didnt connect to. Our communication wasnt great. I would text him and I wouldnt hear from him until hours or days later. I called the Holland office because, I had been here no more than a few weeks and, I wanted out. I didnt feel welcomed and was no longer getting answers. I called and spoke to a girl who told me I had a 90 grace period to cancel my membership. They didnt give me a number but they gave me an email address. I emailed them asking them to cancel my membership but I never heard back from them and they continued to withdraw money from my bank account. After a week + they finally emailed me but didnt answer my questions/concerns. No one is/was able to give me answers or a phone number. They REFUSE to cancel my membership unless I pay the buy out! ! This company is a scam, DO NOT GO THERE! The service here is horrible! This gym is not looking out for their customers. It is definitely not client centered and I genuinely regret opening a membership here.

RIP OFF!!! I signed up right before the holidays last year. Was planning on utilizing a couple days a week to work out. Part of the deal of acquiring a membership here was a 2 night stay at a water park in Boyne City MICHIGAN, my own locker for my belongings and a 24 hour access. Due to the holidays I was not able to go to the gym for the first few weeks I had the membership, I returned to work out and my lock was cut and all my stuff was gone. I felt violated, couple days later they finally found my stuff. I told them I wanted to cancel my membership due to them LYING to me! they told me it was simple, email the corporate office with CANCEL in the subject line. A lady from "corporate" emailed me back with a bs line, our computers are down and we can not access customer info at this time, we will contact you as soon as it is up and running. I NEVER heard back. now!!! they want me to give them $650!!! HA! MY LAWYER IS ALL OVER THIS! GOOD JOB FAMILY FITNESS! GOOD JOB. OH and the "trip" was a lie too! they made me pay a $15 registration fee, just for them to send me a pamphlet for places in other states. hahaha okay.
