LA Fitness definitely isnt the friendliest gym. If youre looking for a gym that will know you when you walk in and actually care that you exist, this isnt the right gym for you. I finally decided to take advantage of my free physical assessment. I made sure that there were no obligations to sign up for personal training before I did it. After the assessment, I was intensely pushed toward purchasing the training sessions. After saying no thanks and that I cant afford it right now, a supervisor was called over to try to persuade me. He asked me, "Why cant you afford this?" I said, "I have payments such as 2 cars, car insurance, utilities, and school loans for my wife and me." He replied, "How much are your school loans each month?" What the heck man?? I told him each was $300 a month. That seemed to change his mind. Another time when I walked in to check in, I didnt have my key tag on me (I lost it, just like everyone else lost theirs.) I presented my ID and asked if he could sign me in. He looked at me, sighed heavily, then asked for my phone number. After giving him my phone number, he asked my name. (Thats what the ID was for, buddy!) He then said, "Not everyone will sign you in without your key tag. You need to have that." Thats not true. Never was he sympathetic toward me. He never offered me another tag. Just rude. Like I said, its a good gym. I swim laps, and they have a decent pool for that. But their staff could use some training in customer service.

Woodhaven Michigan is a wonderful community, LA Fitness is located in a prime location and does well promoting health to the downriver area. Unfortunately, Gilberto the sales manager is not well suited for his role representing the company. Numerous instances have been displayed in a public setting in which Mr. Gilberto expressed extreme unprofessionalism. He is quick to remind patrons that he has the authority to remove anyone from the premise and revoke membership. Gilberto creates an unhealthy hostile environment in which members feel intimidated and disrespected throughout their exercise experience. As per La Fitness website "We are most proud of our staff who are there to serve you. The people who warmly greet you, expertly train you, enthusiastically teach you. lt is the entire team, our best resource, who is dedicated to making your fitness experience an exceptional one." Gilberto fails to fulfill any of these criteria. Reading further reviews will confirm Gilbertos ignorance, many negative reviews clearly state dissatisfaction with him. The only star goes to the other staff members Samantha, Andrew, and front desk employees to name a few, are excellent they embody the exact objective LA Fitness has to offer its members. The facility is clean members are diverse and friendly and parking is exceptional. It is regrettable such a promising facility is brought down by problems that can be simply corrected.

Was so excited to get a new LA in our area. My initial concerns upon signing up had to do with equipment maintenance and repairs as well as cleanliness of the facility. Well, its now been 16 months since the doors opened and they certainly havent lived up to their promise. I have seen equipment broken down and tagged "out of service" for days, cleanliness in not very high on their priority list and the sauna has not been throughly cleaned since the doors opened. They are extremely good and focused on signing ever person that walks through their doors. Including guests and family members of current members. I took my son as a guest for the maximum two week period and he received 2-3 calls daily from their sales staff. This was in addition to the initial 30 minute sales pitch when I signed him up as my guest and he told them then he had no interest in becoming a member. With the efforts on new members it makes it difficult to get in and out in a reasonable amount of time because of the overcrowding especially during peak hours.

This place used to get 4 stars from me but it is 3 stars and falling. This isnt a condemnation of the facility, I just think LA Fitness is dead set on ruining their company with their fast food approach (cooperate mindset to selling fitness.) They are overcrowding this gym as they do every other La Fitness in America. They are really lucky the people that attend this gym have etiquette for the most part compared to other La Fitness locations. Why do people take basketball so seriously? Unfortunately because of the monopolies of fitness this is the current and future culture of fitness in America. It makes me really sad as we are loosing our communities and individuality because this cooperate mindset. I know this is WAY to deep for a LA Fitness review but if you are a serious longtime gym goer you can relate. I dont like the staff. I am not greeted with any sort of welcome or even eye contact but they feel comfortable telling me to leave. La Fitness is garbage IT IS TOO HOT IN THERE! TURN ON THE DEHUMIDIFIERS!!!

Well the people who work here are all kind of just assholes with a big ego. Tell me why I have a friend paying 50 a month for him and 2 guest but since I am already a member its gana make my membership go from 30 a month to 70 a month because it wasnt at the point of sale. Like seriously I pay your stupid membership so you should be thankful for your members and offer the same deals. Along with my membership skyrocketing there is a fee on 80 dollars I must pay as well; all to take 1 person to the gym with me. Also the first time I called to ask about this my phone call went unanswered for about 5 mins before I hung up and it was 11am so I dont know why Im paying so much to have such bad communication from a fully staffed gym? If you want better reviews thing about the people and not just your personal trainers hitting on the female clients like Ive seen many times first hand. The place is rarely clean. Dirty machines, it smells pretty bad ALL the time because they REFUSE to turn the air on in there, and with so many sweating, it stinks. It is roughly about 76 degrees in there, people complain about the heat all the time, summer, winter, it does not matter, it is never really that comfortable to work out in. I am looking at going down the street for a 1/3 of the price and they actually use the air! No one watches anything there, people trim there pubs in the sauna, have sex in the hot tub, and so on...anyone can take video or photos in the dressing rooms because there is NO changing rooms. There is no signs for mats so people take dirty mats and throw them on clean ones..the machines keep breaking down, and the machines are made for very large people. Honestly, total awful management, but they are nice. That is about it.

Ive been to 6 of the LA Fitness locations in the metro Detroit area. Even though theres one in the city I live in, I often drive a little further to come to this one in Woodhaven. Why? 3 reasons. 1) Because its cleaner than any others, especially in the womens locker room. They have employees who are paid to clean. Not so at all locations. 2) As a woman, the pool and whirlpool area feels much safer in Woodhaven than the one in Allen Park. Its pool room is open to the front lobby and even to the outside. The one in Allen Park is closed off and always jam packed with men. No employees or patrons can see you in there. 3) My favorite Zumba teacher, Lisa, teaches there on Wednesday night.
