I agree with the other reviews I have read and have had the same experiences myself. This club, both before, during and after your membership does a HARD SELL. Im sure that to the sales staff, that is a compliment, but believe me, it is not. Roughly 50% of the staff are there to show support for your health and wellness and to provide customer service. The other 50% are there to try to sell you add-ons to your membership, try to make it difficult for you to cancel your membership, or make sure that they are still charging you some sort of bullshit charge even after your membership is over in order to "preserve" your status with them. A note to all including the guy who in a review said that he came in on November 1st to cancel but still had to pay for Nov and December: YOU NEED TO CANCEL, IN WRITING, BY THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE ACCEPTED AS YOUR 30 DAY NOTICE TO CANCEL. So, the 31st is fine, the 30th is fine, 29th, 28th, etc., but if you are coming in on the 1st to cancel you are one day late for the 30 day notice, just like you would be if you are leaving a rental property. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that everyone who is trying to cancel their Lifetime membership does this in person at the club, and gets something with a staff members signature acknowledging that your notice has been received. I would suggest that you write on the notice that you DO NOT agree to allow the club to continue charging your card the $10-$20/m they like to in order to keep your membership "on hold" and that you DO NOT allow them to continue to call or send you e-mails after your membership is over. I could also go on and on about the things that they try to sell you during your membership, but I hope that anyone reading this would pretty much get the idea by now. Their "complimentary orientation session for the equipment" is, of course, a HARD SELL to try to get you to sign up for personal training. The list goes on and on. This is a beautiful club made nauseating by the overly-aggressive sales staff. Good luck and please make sure you have written documentation when you cancel your membership. You are going to need it to refute future credit card charges. I am sure that this club operates under the policy that if you throw enough mud against a wall some of it will stick, and if you erroneously charge a few thousand people that a couple hundred or so will overlook it for a while.

Their bait and switch sales tactics are unethical and fraudulent. The location itself is so out of the way of civilization that I found it impossible to go on the regular basis. When I did go there were lots of creepy guys who would stare at me while I was trying to work out. I ended up spending most of my time working out and stretching in their hot yoga room when it was empty. I really do love that space, its warm, and has a speaker system that you can plug your music into, however I did not find value in paying high membership fees just to use an empty room. In August I decided to cancel my membership. They told me that I must go down to the gym and do this in person (after I had emailed them written notice). OK fine, Ill go down... when I went there they had me sign an electronic signature pad. Little did I know the document that I was actually signing was a "hold agreement" vs. "cancellation". I noticed the charges today on my credit card and called them. Then they explained to me that my membership goes back into full effect on January 1 and that they wont/ prevent the charge from occurring. Furthermore, that since I signed a "hold agreement" (something that Adam Hambleton was really proud about - the fact that he had a signed agreement) they would not refund the "hold fees" back to me. Luckily, I had used an Amex for my membership and they actually care about their customers and are handling the matter for me. I will never sign back up at LifeTime Fitness after this. Adam was so smug with his "i got you" attitude virtually waving around this "signed" document.... Yeah, you got me. I signed a document that you did not let me read on an electronic signature pad. Thats not really my bad, thats bad business practices on your part, and I dont need a smug attitude to go along with the theft/fraud. DONT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH LIFETIME FITNESS, YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Can the staff here be ruder?? Can they treat their customers any worse?? My experience tells me: NO! My whole family works out here, but all of us are getting more and more tired of being treated like this! The gym is ALWAYS crowded (as you can find that from other reviews, if the reviews are not from their own staff)! If you want to use the free weight, I am telling ya to come to the gym at 5am and 5am ONLY! They oversell their membership. They treated you sooo nicely at the beginning- give you a tour and everything else, all nice and neat. Once you join the club, they DON’T CARE at all. If you have questions, any questions, they don’t know anything! If you need help, too bad! If you call in regarding your membership, they don’t know anything and will HANG UP ON YOU! The GM will give you the biggest attitude. So if you can just be quiet and workout with 1000 other people, never have anything to ask and don’t mind your gym staff totally rude to you, this is the perfect place!

I went for training after a heart attack (I had had six months of cardiac rehab so I was ok to go). I was a little nervous about working out my heart and was hoping for a little reassurance that the trainer would be careful with working me out for the first time. Instead she just looked at me blankly and said, "Ok....." Didnt seem to really register. I got the impression that she just gave cookie-cutter workouts for everyone. I also warned her that I have separated stomach muscles from having large babies (its where your stomach muscles dont go back together after having the baby, but remain separated.) Any abdominal exercise will make the separation even worse, thus, making your stomach stick out even more. Again, my trainer knew nothing about this nor did anyone else on the staff. I was actually instructed to do yoga---which is all about using your core. This, by itself, would have ruined my stomach. I was really disappointed by how under-trained the staff was.

Watch out for random 1/3 month rate increases and lack of care for their members. So, Lifetime Fitness claims to have a 30 day cancellation policy. Which is fair... But I go in today which is Nov. 1 to cancel and Im told not only do I have to pay for November Im going to have to pay for ALL of December as well. So basically I cant get out of paying for 60 days. Ok whatever... The crazy part is the guy a spoke in the Chanhassen location said I had a negative balance and wouldnt let me sign the cancellation forms. How can I have a negative balance when theyve deducted the payment automatically from my credit card? lol. So I have to go back in and cancel. Ok whatever... Becky who I was referred to at their corporate office did not help either. She said this was all in their "agreement" I signed a year ago and that the $20/mo rake hike was in there as well. Ok whatever... Ive actually referred people to lifetime fitness in the past but never again.
