Thank You Dr. Crutchfield I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the help you have given me in controlling my Psoriasis! My condition has been under control for the first time in my life since I came to Minnesota to see you, and to get your advice and help. My Psoriasis had started 40 years before, and I had exhausted the roll of Dermatologists out here in California, while hearing the same old story from each of them time and again. Every doctor here told me it was “incurable” and then proceeded to give me the same tired old advice and treatments I had tried before and with no success. I finally settled for a lifetime of wearing long sleeves and long pants during the summer months in my attempts to cover my condition, unless I was with friends or family who accepted my appearance without question. It was always embarrassing however to be asked by strangers who spotted a patch of Psoriasis whether I had fallen down and hurt myself, so I usually lied to them and said yes. My wife’s cousin had moved to Eagan from Hawaii years before, and part of his decision to do so was due to his own case of Psoriasis. In Hawaii one is almost forced to wear shorts and T-shirts and he too was tired of embarrassing questions. Eventually he was referred to your office for treatment, and the results were so incredible that he called me here in California and offered to fly me out to see you! My wife and I waited until we had free time and had made the decision to make the 4,000 mile round trip to Eagan in our car! Thank God for that decision, and that long drive, because I had the privilege of spending time in your office and of benefiting from your effective advice and treatment. I was favorable impressed by the friendly and professional way I was treated the moment I walked through the door of your building, and two years later I am happy to report that my condition is still under control, and that I proudly wear my beloved short sleeved shirts and shorts here in the California sunshine! You listened to my questions with patience and caring and you gave answers were new and refreshing and that finally caused me to be optimistic about my condition. For the first time I walked away from an appointment with a Dermatologist with hope and a smile on my face, because after 40 years of searching I had finally found a doctor who didn’t listen to those who had given up long ago, and who went further than anyone else in his search for a cure for this terrible disease! There is still no cure, but by following your advice and faithfully applying my medications I am 95% symptom free, and my life has been much happier because of it. I have given personal testimonies to others I spot with Psoriasis, and have referred them to your office for treatment, regardless of where they may live. I hope they took my advice to heart and found you. This is the only way I know of thanking you. You have truly done your part to create a happier and better world. Thank you so very much and please keep up your search for a final cure. If anyone can find it----it is you! Dennis W.

In response to the "Owners reply" below. I received a certified letter from Dr. Crutchfields attorney that is very similar to this response, which also states that the clinic "would strongly prefer not to have to take outside action to correction the misleading claims." First of all, this is a public forum and my original post was MY perception of the clinic, it was not intended to mislead anyone. To clarify, the nurse on my first visit was very sweet, the nurse on my second visit was not. The dermatologist that referred me to Crutchfield indicated that she would expect Crutchfield to do a biopsy - this was never mentioned. On my second appointment, which I drove 1 hour each way to attend, I was put in a spa type room for about an hour. When I asked how much longer it would be, I was admonished by the nurse. When Dr. Crutchfield finally arrived, he spent maybe 5 minutes in the room with me. At both appointments, he mentioned bleach baths, but never explained how often/how much he recommended. He also seemed rushed, and when I attempted to ask questions regarding causes of my medical conditions, they were waved off with a brush of his hand. So of course, I indicated no further questions - he clearly didnt have time for that! Perhaps my high expectations led me to my disappointment. The response/letter claims that "a medical problem you had told him you had suffered from for 41 years was almost completely resolved." This is in reference to exzema, which he had treated me with steroids and antibiotics. Surely, it was clearing up, but anyone with this condition knows it is a chronic condition, therefore only manageable, not resolvable. My general practicioner could have, as has, prescribed the same course of treatment for flare ups. I dont believe that my OPINION is false, because it is my PERCEPTION. These public review forums are opinions!

I came to Dr. Crutchfield with a skin rash Ive had for 2 1/2 years. Ive seen four other doctors, none of them dermatologists, and been prescribed four different things for my rash. After a 45-minute wait in the waiting room, during which I filled out a form detailing the previous ineffective medications, I was brought to an exam room and treated well by an assistant and someone who was "following" her for the day. After another 10-15 minute wait, Dr. Crutchfield himself came in for about 90 seconds, during which he looked at my rash, diagnosed it, and told me what he would prescribe. It wasnt any of the drugs I had previously had, and he told me it would be safe for pregnancy and nursing (Im currently 9 mos. pregnant). When my husband picked it up from the pharmacy for me, I recognized it immediately as one of the topical drugs Id already tried. I looked up the one he said he was going to prescribe on the internet, and sure enough, this was just the generic version of that. So obviously he hadnt even taken time to look at my charts, and the assistant didnt catch it either. I called the office and left a message explaining the situation and asked if there were other options. "They called in the prescription wrong and will call in the order to your pharmacy again" was the reply I received later in the day. I know better--they prescribed exactly what they said they were going to prescribe. So I get my next prescription, and it is for a drug that says right on the insert shouldnt be used during pregnancy and the data on use during nursing is inconclusive and may cause problems for the infant. So I cant use it anyway! Overall, I rate the friendliness of the staff a 4, but Dr. Crutchfield and his ability to do anything helpful at a 0, which evens out to about a 2.

My review comes a few years later, however after seeing Dr. Crutchfield win the Top Doctor award in Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine, I thought Id share my experience. I went in to see Dr. Crutchfield for moderate to severe acne. Having tried everything from diet change to antibiotics, nothing was helping. The nurse at Dr. Crutchfields clinic spent a few minutes with me discussing my acne before the doctor came in. She introduced me to Accutane and told me it could potentially eliminate my acne. My excitement soon dissipated when she mentioned Id have to clear a pregnancy test, sign up for iPledge, a program requiring me to take 2 methods of birth control and come in for regular blood testing to ensure my body is not having a bad reaction. WHAT!? When the nurse left, I started Googling Accutane and learned it was originally marketed as a chemotherapy drug. When Dr. Crutchfield entered the room with the nurse, I asked him why he would prescribe a chemotherapy drug for acne. He shot his nurse a disgruntled look and asked if she told me this information. She said no and Dr. Crutchfield proceeded to explain to me that it is not a chemotherapy and is safe to take. After much research on the drug, I decided not to proceed with treatment as the risk to me was not worth the reward. I also did not continue to see Dr. Crutchfield as jumping directly to strong prescription medication was not my idea of treatment. I am sure many have had success, it was simply not for me. I did purchase his homemade cleansing pads, which helped make my skin smoother.
