You ever see the episode of Friends where Chandler tries to quit the gym? Well, expect the same scenario here, but without all the funny quips. Its been a 4 week process trying to cancel our family membership here! Started out we wanted to "freeze" our account until we were back in town, being told that was one of the conveniences of our membership at LA Fitness. When I called to freeze it, I was told family plans did not have that option, much to my surprise as I was told that was exactly what I could do. When I inquired to the person that told me this, he said it was a recent change (that conveniently occurred in the month we signed up). He told me hed see what he could do and call me back. No call. So a few days later, I called again, and had to explain the situation to another person. That person tells me that freezing your family plan has not been an option for a long time (which means I was flat out lied to by the other guy). I explain thats not what I was told, and again Im told that I will get a call back to see what they can do. No call. I call back a few days later, neither of those two were available, so I leave a message to have them call me back. No call. Were on over 2 weeks now. I call again, and this time I talk to an Area Manager. I explain again. Shes helpful and tells me shell take care of the problem then and there. She refunds the most recent charge (that occurred while trying to freeze our account), and says shell cancel the membership. I get two notices in email form mentioning cancelled accounts (I figure one for each myself and my wife). A week later, I get charged for a single membership. Both memberships are supposed to be cancelled at this point. I call, ask to talk to this same manager (figure she just flubbed on this one). The girl on the phone tells me that cancellations cant be done over the phone and that Ill have to print a cancellation form and come in to take care of it. So, I leave a message once more to get a call back. This is where its been left for now. Well see if I actually get a call back. The moral of this story: if you dont mind getting dicked around about your membership and the "benefits" you actually get, then by all means sign up here. If you prefer a little customer service, you may want to stay away. Ill follow up with this review once this is all "taken care of." IF that happens. Update: The only person who has been of any help there at this point has been Rachel, who is an area manager of sorts. She was a no questions asked, just take care of the customer kind of help. She resolved the issue for me finally, but despite her help, I will not be using an LA Fitness again.

Wow, I was happy to read Bashkim Beats experience with General Manager Nick W.s service. I had a very similar encounter when I brought a friend to LA Fitness for a guest pass. My friend and I are both workout guys and went to separate gyms, so we both tried talking one another into joining the gym we went to. Around 4 p.m. on a Sunday (this matters) when we visited this Maplewood LA Fitness with my guest pass, Nick forced us to sit down to talk as long as a job interview would last. When he found out my friend already belonged to another gym, Nick became hostile and said, "Im not letting him come in here, hes already got a gym. What are you doing, just using us for a free workout?" My friend tried reasoning with him, saying he preferred his gym but was open to coming here to workout with me, but Nick only became more and more hostile. There were signs everywhere essentially stating, "Bring in a friend or family member - have them try it out", and I asked, "Dont you want more people visiting?" Nick snapped back, "We dont need people coming in here. Not unless they all sign up. We dont need people coming in here and using up all the equipment that members should be using." 4 p.m. on a Sunday is not their prime hours, there was literally less than 20 people working out in the building. Nick begrudgingly let my friend use the gym, but rudely sniped at us, "But stay off the basketball courts. I dont want them getting too busy." My friend pointed out at the floor and said, "Theres like nobody here." Nick didnt even turn his head, was clearly already fed up with us, and stood up from his desk saying, "Whatever, just stay off them." This was literally one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever faced, and I asked if he had a supervisor I could talk with. He handed me his card and said, "Im it. Im the General Manager." He did, in fact, have a boss who was above him. Sadly, when I found this out, I didnt contact him to tell him the horrid experience I had trying to give them a customer. My wife is in a newborn moms Facebook group with many other Minnesota moms - and a lot of them were going to sign up at the same gym in the area to workout together. After my wife told them my horrific experience, the group of 15 that were going to enroll there changed their minds. Nick W. sits by the door as people enter, and it is EXTREMELY uncomfortable having him stare at you as you come in. He would seriously give me an evil glare every time I would return, making it feel miserable to visit. The whole place feels extremely uninviting from the staff, as if theyre saying, "Sign up......but NEVER come in here."

I went to this location as one of my friends wants to join and lived near to this location and I must say I had a blast working out at this location, the machines, the space, the swimming pool all in top shape but when it was time to leave the manager (Nick) was upset because my friend didnt sign up on the first day. THAT lead to accusations and phone call harassment and his excuse was that we didnt show up on his "appointment" that "we" made the reason why he kept calling but you know we never made an appointment as I am the witness and sure enough was smart to pull out my phone. He also threatened me that he will put a "Red Flag" whatever that means but I do take threats serious and this person will be reported to the police if he EVER calls again or approaches me. He has no quality in sales and is absurd rude looks like to me he got mad because we (as a second language speaking with an accent) couldnt sign up but I do not tolerate with such attitudes or people and let them think they can just walk over you but I am no stepping stone. For the reviewers reading this if your thinking to yourself if it really got that serious, yes it did. A complaint will be filled against this person simply because you do not threaten people. Whether you have an accent, are black, Asian or whatever the reason may be, just because he is a manager it does not give him the right to treat people in such disrespectful manners accuse them, harass them and try twist their words just because he got upset he didnt get my friend signed up on the first day. I am disappointed this gym has a lot of potential but wonder what they are going to do when Planet Fitness opens up just a block away from them. Good luck to those who are looking for an unexpected first time experience trying become a member here. Take other reviews advice, you are better off going somewhere else.
