When I first considered Precious Gems I was a little concerned by the fact that it is a renovated restaurant, and located on one of the busiest streets in Springfield, but thought I could just get over that, and I probably could have if it werent for some other factors. I could over look the crowded space that made me claustrophobic every time I entered the building and at first I thought the coded lock on the main door was a good thing ... until I realized that parents dont get a code for the door and have to wait on the staff to let them in or bring their children out to them (the more common occurrence) No surprise visits here!!! But that was not the worst, the center is run by a woman who doesnt understand the meaning of the word clean... her hair was greasy and dirty almost every time I saw her and her clothing was dirty and torn... Now I realize Child care is dirty work and youre not going to look super polished every moment of the day but this was beyond the dirtiness of taking care of children this was skanky. If you are going to be taking care of other peoples children at least wash your hair and put on some clean clothes!!! On top of that my 4 yr old who was almost completely potty trained starts having 2-3 accidents a day... not little-ooops-I-didnt-quite-make-it accidents but gushing-shoe-soaking accidents (BTW those accidents stopped the first week at her new daycare) Also my 4 year old came home saying things like Oh my G--! (a phrase that is never used in our home) My 2 year old cried everyday when we dropped him off, at his new daycare he just gives me a kiss and is ready to play. Not to mention in spite of the fact that we told them he was lactose intolerant and would/could not drink milk He would be consistently dehydrated when I picked him up, and every time when they gave me back his sippy cup it was full of MILK! I give this Daycare two thumbs down as one of the absolute worst daycares it has ever been my displeasure to set foot in! Lydia Paasch

Horrible place to work due to checks/hours being short/late, pretty much have to fight for what youre owed. Very poorly ran by the managers & owner (which lives out of state). Poor conditions & children are not monitored/watched. Will hire ANYBODY, without drug testing (which needs to be done regularly). Inappropriate behavior & language around children by employees. Children are fed whatever the kitchen staff feels like making, sometimes its the same thing over & over again. Shortage on food quite often & parents have been lied to about the facility having a menu. Parents have been lied to about the facility having a curiculm & what their children will be learning. Some of the staff have been very aggressive with the children & often yell at the children. The staff will use other childrens food/milk/wipes & diapers for other children in the facility. When staff would try to address the problems with no heat, no hot water, no working washer with the management or the owner it would be blown off & not handled right away. Honestly, I dont even know how this place is still in operation.

If I could I would not give any stars. Dirty, overcrowded, broken toys in the nursery. The director seemed nice at first but we found out differently later. My child got hurt, it took them over an hour to call me at work and let me know. The story I got on the phone was different from the story I heard when I got there, and that was different from the incident report. Even the names of who was on duty was different. When I asked to see the video of what happened I got one excuse after another and never did get to see the video. Have been there several times for a surprise visit and couldnt get in until they came and unlocked the door. Several times the teachers in the nursery were more interested in texting on their phone instead of watching the babies. I would not send my dog to this place, let alone trust them with any child.

The Daycare is clean and structured. The director is friendly . The center is much roomier than it looks on the outside. I visited clear out of the blue with no notice and the director stopped everything she was doing to give me a tour. She took me through each room and talked about the food program and the different structured activities for each class. She also talked about all the different field trips and outings the children would be involved with this summer. She explained she had just recently took over the directors spot . The children seemed to be happy and the teacher was dancing with the children in preschool room. The babys were playing on the floor with a teacher sitting with them. I feel confident my son who will be four will love it there.

When I first enrolled my daughter in this daycare I liked it a lot. As time has passed I have seen differences in her behavior. She now throws fits and throws herself in the floor which has never been allowed by me. I noticed a bruise on her arm and she told me another kid bit her, but the teachers never reported this to me. One day as I was picking my daughter up I saw a little boy punch another little boy in the face and the teacher did nothing about it. It makes me wonder what else is going on that I dont know about. My daughter is learning a lot and has fun there. Shes excited everyday that she goes. I just have a few concerns that I will address with the teachers and the director of the center.

This daycare is unsanitary and chaotic. They lost 30 jars of my daughters baby food and then I took one of her bottles home and removed the nipple from the ring and discovered black mold. This is because they just throw everything in a dishwasher at once. I do not recommend. Also, I have seen other kids with snot dripping down their face and crying every morning. They are not very attentive.
