This review is for the Father/Daughter lessons that Obi gives at Take the lead. My Daughter was married in Nov 2014. I wanted the Father/Daughter dance to be special. I had never had any dance lessons before and I am only an occasional dancer with my wife. I could not be more pleased with the lessons that I received from Obi. Obi is smart, fun to work with, and he has the knowledge needed to direct you in your dance. My daughter lives out of town and the wedding was out of town. No Problem. Obi will work with you and your situation. Obi will direct you and produce a dance that you can be proud of. I was extremely happy with the results. His prices are up front and listed on the web site. There is no bait and switch. If you want a special Father/Daughter dance Obi is the one to help plus you will enjoy the lessons. The best recommendation I can give is this story. The day before the wedding I told my brother in law that I had taken dance lessons for the father daughter dance. He got a kick out of this and gave me a hard time about how times have changed and this is not the way it was done in the past. After the Father/Daughter dance at the reception he came up to me and said I do not know now much you paid your dance instructor but it was worth every dollar you paid and you need to give him a tip. The dance even brought a tear or two to several of the ladies at the reception. If you want to make your daughter proud I can not encourage you enough to take lessons from Obi. You will not regret it.

"Take the Lead" is a FANTASTIC place to go for dance lessons! A friend of mine talked me into enrolling into an adult ballet class (keep in mind I’m 35 years old and have had no prior dance experience). I took 8 ballet classes at Springfield Ballet and then began searching for other dance studios in the area. And I am SO glad I did! I have learned so much from “Take the Lead” in a very short amount of time. The instructors are super friendly and there is a perfect balance of FUN and LEARNING taking place in each session. For those of you who want to know why I left Springfield Ballet…it was just too serious (I had no fun), and I felt as though there was too much emphasis placed on perfection of technique in the ADULT class. Trust me, I’m a perfectionist in everything I do, but this was just over the top for an adult class! I realize at my age, I’m not going to be a professional ballerina! Don’t get me wrong, “Take the Lead” does focus on technique but does so in a balanced way appropriate to adults. I have had such a blast in their ballet class that I decided to try out the other adult classes they offer. I now go 4 nights a week to Tap, Jazz, Hip-hop, & Ballet and have signed up for the monthly, unlimited dance pass (which is reasonably priced)! I would highly recommend giving “Take the Lead” a shot. If you want to have FUN, get a great WORKOUT, and learn a ton of DANCE moves at the same time, check them out! You won’t be disappointed.

What this studio has given me since I walked through those doors more than a year ago was a reason to keep going, to succeed, to become a different person, to believe in myself, that I can do/be whatever I want. Doesnt matter if I am good or bad at it! Take the Lead was always something to look forward to at the end of the day, to escape LIFE, to learn a new skill/hobby, make new friends and enjoy spending time with the current ones. It’s something for everyone to do! You dont have to know what you’re doing, I didnt! It’s so easy to learn and so much fun! Just take that first "step"! Another thing I am grateful for that I have taken from Take the Lead is how it has opened me up. Im closer to people now than I ever have been! Learning to dance itself really isn’t that hard, it’s learning to build the confidence to do it and feel good about yourself while doing it, and I’ve gained just that, I feel better about the person I am, I feel more confident. I communicate better with people and am more outgoing. It’s amazing what can happen in only a year, to see who or what changes. Especially the changes that come from yourself. And IM TELLING YOU, I could not have made half of these changes if it wasnt for this place and the people in it! I promise no regrets here! Best thing I’ve done for myself and for anyone I would say that wishes to come here! I love dance!!!!

My fiancée and I both turned to Take The Lead for help with our first wedding dance. We chose a unique song that we were almost certain would require a lot of dance experience and we had none. To our surprise Obi heard our song and told us he was certain they would be able to help us. Obi introduced us to our dance instructor Kylie, who was not afraid of a challenge. Obi took our song and edited the audio to make a perfect routine. Then with Kylies help we were able to learn an amazingly unique dance for our first wedding dance in very little time. Everyone at Take The Lead is amazing to work with and you will feel right at home from the moment you walk in the door. We would highly recommend Take The Lead to anyone interested in learning to dance or expanding their skills. When we began we intended to learn a dance for our wedding but the staff are so great and easy to work with we plan on returning to learn much much more! We hope we see you there!

I cannot say enough good things about Take the Lead! We wanted our first dance together at the reception to be something special and Obi delivered. He patiently worked with us on the choreography and even edited several songs together so our dance would be a show-stopper! Especially helpful were the recordings we made at the end of every lesson, which made practicing at home so much easier. Learning social dancing at Take the Lead was about so much more than just doing some "sweet moves," it was practically couples therapy. We learned to trust, communicate, move and work together - skills that will last us a lifetime. If youre wanting to look great for your first dance as a married couple, or looking for something different and engaging for a date night, you should check out Take the Lead! My fiancé and I thought we were hopeless when we entered Take the Leads studio to prepare for our upcoming wedding dance. Neither of us had any formal couples dance training and my wonderful future husband has two heavy left feet (sorry baby). Obi was incredibly patient with us, walking us through each of the movements that would comprise our first dance as a married couple. Over the course of our 6 sessions, he got us progressively comfortable with the steps. He made a video of the very last time we ran through the routine and when we viewed it later, we couldnt believe the difference he made. Our wedding is this Saturday and we cant wait to show off our new moves! Thanks so much Obi!
