Took laptop here: Hard drive failure. Could not be salvaged. Needed new hard drive. We wanted to upgrade. Simple enough, and as far as we know the work was fine. However, got talked into fixing the screen. "The LCD is fine, all we need to do if fix the outer screen. Should be real cheap because your LCD is fine". This was our mistake. One thing after another. They broke the monitor on the laptop, tried to get US to pay for it. Then they replaced the LCD and the monitor STILL didnt work. A simple fix turned into roughly 1,000 dollars of work. He kept telling us its time to buy a new laptop. Eventually we just gave up. After fighting with the owner through the employee we ended up getting our ruined laptop back. The owner was nice enough to not charge us labor or anything, but a simple hard drive upgrade and screen fix turned into now shopping for a completely new laptop. The Laptop we had? Not even a single year old. It was 10 months old!!! We got the vibe they were very unknowledgeable. And seeing as screen repairs are what they brag is their bread and butter it felt more like a scam. Read their terms very carefully, felt like they messed up our laptop so wed have to abandon it there because we couldnt afford to pay. In the end they were nice enough to surrender its remains to us in return for not suing them or something, I still think they are FAR from professional. This sort of horror story is exactly why we went to a professional. I couldnt allow all these perfect, 5 star reviews be the only things because I cant believe how awful our experience was. 0 stars out of 100. Would NOT recommend. I feel bad, the employee was nice and its a small local bussiness, but this experience is exactly why we went to a professional first instead of attempting the work ourselves. Now were out a 1 year old laptop and need to get a brand new one. 0 stars.

Fast, friendly, local service. Far superior to the Best Buy experience where they ship your computer with a turn around of weeks, only to tell you they cant fix it. Durham Geeks provides excellent service and appears to know what theyre doing.
