Great haircuts, great price! I moved to NH three years ago from out of state but continued traveling home to get my hair cut at a trusted salon. Until this year, when I discovered the school, and I travel no longer! I have wavy hair that I like to switch up between short and medium length, with a low-maintenance, layered cut that encourages my natural wave. I like a cute cut, but also pretty, and somewhere between modern and classic. It can be difficult to cut properly because of its wave and thickness, nor do I always like the style that some stylists have cut it in before. So when I saw a friend with a similar hair type rocking an AMAZING new cut, and she told me it was from a student at The School, I was convinced to give them a try. I loved the haircut I got from the student (Rachel Starr Davis), and made sure to go back for another one before she graduated, which also turned out perfect. Im not surprised that she has already landed a great job for after graduation - shes clearly very talented. She recommended a newer student for my next appointment, so I absolutely plan on coming back. Its insane that these great cuts are only $11, because they are the same or better than $35-$45 cuts Ive gotten at much fancier salons. Plus you get the whole treatment, with washing and a blow out and everything. These students are very professional, and they check with their knowledgeable teachers every step of the way - with a haircutting plan at the beginning, and with the final result at the end, as well as during the process if they have any questions or need a little advice. I always feel confident in being treated well there and having a great result. Im never going anywhere else! Sometimes cuts take more than an hour, these are students after all so they occasionally trade speed for accuracy, so beware when you schedule that you dont need to rush off to an urgent appointment right after.

I came here on the recommendation of a friend to ombré dye my dark brown hair to pastel pink, and while Im glad I did I definitely got what I paid for. My stylist was a delight to work with (very important when youre in the chair for over four hours), and everyone was great about answering all my questions on how to maintain my new do, but the quality wasnt the best. The bleach job was inconsistent, leaving a light brown streak running through the pink on the right front side (super visible, ugh), and she managed to bleach above the point I wanted in several spots. I also wish I hadnt let them talk me into going full hot pink with the idea that it would fade to pastel. I knew I needed to go more vivid for it to work properly, but I wouldnt go so far in the future. After living with it for a few months its faded unevenly, so theres still hot pink in back and underneath, even with attempts to wash just that section and speed up the process. Tl:dr Im glad I came here to finally take the plunge on a crazy dye job without paying salon prices, but Im not jazzed about the quality. Im not totally sure if I would do this again.

This was sometime ago, but I never said anything, and think the school should recgonize my experience. Ive had two horrible hair cuts in my life and this was one. I had asked for a bop cut, and i got a very short boy cut. It took two years for it to grow out, and people thought I was a young boy..even wearing pink. It really affected me and my self esteem for a long time.I was bullied and teased. I dont know why they would allow a student to cut hair that dosent know the difference between a bop, and a very short boy cut. I was devastated. Cutting hair is important to a persons self esteem, and how they are viewed in society. Dismissing somone, treating rhem like a practice head witj no concern how it affects them in the world, is not a good business practice, and its just mean.

I went to the school on 22 March for a hair color and ended up with a black hair (my hair was light-dark reddish brown before) and my total cost for that day was $68 including tip. I went back on 29 March to "CORRECT" the color and my total cost for that day was $241 including tip. The guy at the register basically said that this is "the chance I take for coming to the school." I did have an $18 hair treatment and a $15 facial that was included in the $241 bill but I think that I should NOT have been charged to correct the color and my bill should have been at last $60 less. In short, if you think that the school is "cheaper" think again because you may have to have something done two or three times before they get it right ....

I have been here a few times and have gotten decent service for the price. I will not be going back and I do not recommend going after my last visit. I asked for a trim and told the stylist that I have gotten a cut here before and that they chopped off more hair than I asked. She told me not worry they are just doing a slight trim. The student was watching as the teacher cut my hair. She ended up cutting way too much off and it came out uneven, which she did not notice until I pointed it out. She corrected it and it is now even but a lot shorter than I asked for. I was very disappointed with the end result and would rather spend the few extra dollars for a more professional service.

I love the environment they have in the school. I am a student here, Ive been going here since November 2013. I love all of the staff members, they are super nice and super friendly. All the students here are so talented and do an amazing job! They always make sure that the client is happy with their hair no matter what! If you are nervous about coming here because we are a school, you shouldnt be! You are in good hands and you wont pay an arm and a leg, the prices are very reasonable. So come on in (:

I have been going to The Paul Mitchel School in Portsmouth for the past 2 years now. They have proven to be better than an established salon that charges double or triple the price. The staff is friendly, I have never had any mistakes made except for maybe something minor and they always strive to correct any errors to keep their clients happy. They are all good students and know what they are doing. Its worth the visit and it will keep you coming back based off their preformance.

I had 2 great students! The moment I walked through the door, I was greeted by my hair dresser. They did a fabulous drop washing, blow drying, and flat ironing my hair. I have long, thick, curly hair and they were gentle combing it out and took their time getting it silky smooth. I hope I have enough time to squeeze in a facial or manicure! Thank you for a professional, quality & relaxing experience!
