If you have a car that requires any type of repair, I would highly recommend bringing your car into AAMCO of Bridgewater. Having been to dozens of mechanics throughout the years and being scammed or cheated by most of them, this is one of the only honest repair shops I would trust with any car. This past winter, my reliable 2002 Honda Odysseys transmission had failed. Everyone including American Honda knew that the 1999-2004 Honda Odysseys had transmission issues. However, after going to my local Honda dealer, I was handed a bill totaling over $5k. The dealer was not able to help me in covering even a partial cost, even though American Honda was fully aware of the defect. I immediately reached out to my old mechanic, who suggested in getting a used transmission from a junkyard. I was surprised that I was told to get a used unit, since every Honda transmission had this issue, even the used one would eventually fail. I then looked into AAMCO Remanufactured Transmissions, and I came upon many locations in Central NJ, however this location had the best reviews, and I decided to give it a try. After towing my car in, AAMCO wanted to double check that it had been my transmission, and I was told that they would be able to put in a remanufactured transmission, for a lot lower than the Honda Dealer. In addition, I had gotten a longer warranty on the new transmission unit. The mechanic had informed me, that AAMCO knows the defects in the Honda designed transmission and they fixed those in their remanufactured unit. After putting in the new unit, the car started driving like a new car. My second experience with AAMCO had been in December, when my car starting making a clunking noise every time I had turned. I had taken it to car dealership again expecting them to fix it, however I was charged for an unnecessary repair, and my noise was still there. Having been tired with going to dealers, I had decided to try AAMCO for suspension work. They told me that part of my subframe had been corroded and it was causing other parts on the car to shake. They were able to improvise and put in a longer bolt to hold the subframe still. Another repair store would have tell me to get the whole subframe repaired, for $1000s of dollars. Having being honest and in favor of the customer, I found AAMCO Bridgewater to be the best repair store in New Jersey. Dealers are great for selling cars, but they cannot repair them, AAMCO Bridgewater fully understands each car they repair, while a dealer mechanic tries to guess the repair.

This is an interesting story. My wife hit a large rock on a major roadway causing serious damage to the transmission pan. AAA took it to AAMCO in Bridgewater, who are pushing into doing regular repairs other than transmissions. I noticed I needed new front breaks on the car and figured I’ll give them a chance since they are doing my Trans. They rebuilt the transmission some $3000+- did a good job on the Trans (expected), but then proceeded to charge me $100 for cheap break pads. The breaks squeaked from day one. Took it back for Trans check after 10 days- and I complained that I just spent $3000+ on a Trans and I can’t believe they would put such cheap break pads on my car. His defense was “well, I figured you spent a lot on the Transmission and would not want to spend a lot on the breaks”. Hell, if it was my business and some guy just spent $3000+ I would put break pads on for free. He proceeded to say he could upgrade the pads but it would cost so much extra. I told him no way and I could not recommend him to anybody as a trustworthy repair shop. I began to leave when he approached me and stated “it got to me that you can’t refer us to anybody” and offered to put premium pads on for free. I thought great, this is how you do business. I let him do it. Well the story does not end there. Some time past since getting the new pads installed and there was a noise coming from the front end. I jacked up the car, noticed on both front wheels the CV boots were cut wide open. I have seen worn boots with tears but this was definitely cut. They were cut in the same exact spot on both sides. Clean- not torn. The thing is before taking it back to the AAMCO shop for Trans check- I had new antilock break sensors put on both the front breaks elsewhere - the guy who owns a shop in IRVINGTON NJ- A bit far for us otherwise I would use him. He would of noticed the “torn” CV boots while working on the sensors. AMMCO of Bridgewater would of noticed the boots and mentioned it to us for sure. Formulate your own conclusions, I have formulated mine and believe they were cut by AAMCO of Bridgewater.

AAMCO in Bridgewater, NJ.... honest, reliable, courteous and helpful owner, Amit! I went there as a skeptic customer and his service changed my opinion. Flash back... I had to go on a weekend night road trip and my Honda Accord car headlights + front right indicator stopped working! Usually, I go to Honda dealer at Bridgewater for oil change and services. After oil change and routine checks, the Honda services said that the light bulbs are not the issue and I had to schedule another 2 hour appointment for electrical diagnostics for a fee. Based on the diagnosis, they would quote me the time, parts and labor involved to fix the lights problem. After all these discussions, they did not have any appointment before my Saturday trip! I started looking online on Friday for other Auto services locations and they were mostly rated 1 or 2 stars. They did not have same day appointment. When I called AAMCO, the owner Amit offered to look into my car the same day even though they were busy, dropped me at home while my car was being diagnosed for free. As promised, he called me couple of hours later that it was faulty lights and not major electrical issue, as stated by Honda dealer. So, while the Honda dealer tried to take advantage by stating electrical issue + diagnosis fee, etc., AAMCOs Amit was honest and only charged me for the actual labor time. The waiting area is not clean or fancy like Honda services with wifi, coffee, tea, soda, snacks, big screen TVs... but I was OK as I was dropped home and did not have to wait there. I understood that Amit is the new owner who is striving to provide good service at a competitive rate. The negative reviews happened to be related to previous owners service. I am glad, I took a chance to call AAMCO. Amit, you have earned another customer with your reliable, upfront, no-surprise service. Thank you!

My 2002 Rav4 Toyota was shifting poorly and sometimes not at all. I took it to them several months ago and they charged me $500 to look it over and replace a part. They admitted didn’t fix anything and they said the car could not be fixed without a full rebuild of the transmission and it would probably cost between $3,000-$4,000. So, it sat in my driveway for a while until it needed a NJ inspection and it was rejected it because of the code on the computer that was showing up. I took to the internet and looked up the code along with my make and model and it was all over the internet that Toyota had a major recall on the ECM boards of my make/model/year because its EMC/computer was making the transmission not shift or shift poorly. There was also a youtube video that showed you how to remove the ECM/computer yourself in about 10 minutes and send it out to be fixed for $200. I did just that and I have put a thousand good miles on it since and it is shifting great. I am not sure what they charged me $500 for but state inspection and internet search I did was free. The fact that it was a major recall by the manufacturer, splashed all over the internet and I could even find step-by-step youtube videos on how to fix it implies they were either extremely dishonest or extremely unable to diagnose a common problem or both; at least concerning my issue. According to the recall, if the transmission was rebuilt, it still wouldn’t fix the problem because the origin of the issue was in the ECM/computer. So, the car still would have had the same problem $3,000-$4,000 later if I followed their diagnosis. Given they charged me $500 for a dishonest or very very poor diagnosis, I would not recommend them!
