WARNING!!! Their very unsavory business ethics negate anything positive I might otherwise have had to say about the gym. Cutting to the chase, LA negated on an already agreed upon deal WHICH THEY PRESENTED WITH ONLY ONE STIPULATION, and that stipulation was to sign before 2017. After consideration, I planned to sign today. It is still 2016, and they have hours until later, so I contacted Isa. This is the message I received, "Someone else really wanted to do it (meaning sign up for the membership at the price I was given) so he (referring to the Kearny manager) did it for that person. If you want to go through with it itll be the new rate..." These details are simply not relevant whatsoever, as someone else wanting to join has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DEAL THAT WAS OFFERED TO ME, AND THE PROMISED, AVAILABLE TIME-FRAME BEFORE ITS EXPIRATION! This was the second time they pulled a stunt within the very short one week trial time-frame while I was there! The very first day when I walked in to ask about LAs gym rates, I requested a week trial to consider. That was the day I was told the rate given to me would be valid up until 2017s arrival. That very first day of my trial, while working out, I received this message, "...my manager just wanted to ask you if you would want to do your membership today just to make sure you get that rate?" I responded, "I thought that rate was a sure bet for me any time before 2017. Has that changed all of a sudden? Is he pressuring you? I hadnt planned to join today. If I did, Id have no reason to request the trial I just started moments ago." Isa responded, "He was asking but you definitely dont have to do it today. I wont put any pressure on you, just enjoy your trial and well do everything next week like we agreed. Im sorry Im texting you but I didnt see you." My experience: Agreements are only as good as how well they are honored, and Kearny LA Fitness did not honor their agreement with me. This speaks volumes as to the business integrity of LA Fitness. Im grateful I discovered this "before" I joined. I was just a hair away from becoming their newest member. I think they belong in the Hall Of Shame, for sure. Wow, and not a good wow, but a very negative wow. :(

READ BEFORE SIGNING A CONTRACT TO DO PERSONAL TRAINING !!! La fitness opened couple months ago in kearny and I decided to signed up for Personal training in the beginning of May 2016 with the building manager himself in kearny NJ. He tried To convince me do a year contract but I refused and only did 6 months . The contract was made for May to November. I went out of my way to call customer services on 11/30/2016 to make sure my contract would be TERMINATED so I dont get charged for December . They assured me and explained I wouldnt be charged !!!! Mind you this is a 400$ a month payment I make !!!! I look at my account last night and 400$ are missing !!!! How pissed and confused I felt because I found this out on 12/09 at 12:30am when I signed on to my bank account because I was trying to buy Christmas gifts for my family . I have a full time job that keeps me really busy during the holidays.I had to wait till the morning to fix this issue . I call at 8:00am and was told the PERSONAL TRAINING MANAGER RAFAEL was not in yet to help me . So I call customer services to speak to DONA ( who is so helpful) and express to her my issue. She assures me my contract was over in NOVEMBER and that a refund was issued but not approved yet the manger has to approve it. I called back to LA FITNESS at 8:40am to speak to RAFAEL about my issue . FIRST OF ALL HE SOUNDED ANNOYED BY ME AND MY ISSUE . Im sure if 400$ was taken WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION he would be pissed. So he without any apology explains to me a refund is already in process . Yes its in process because I called to inform them IT SHOULD NEVER OF HAPPENED !!! NOW I HAVE TO WAIT 5 DAYS TO GET MY MONEY BACK. MY GIFTS THAT I HAD PENDING WILL NOT BE HERE ON TIME BECAUSE OF THERE MISTAKE . AGAIN NO APOLOGY FROM HIM!!!!! If Im not the only one with this problem I hope you write reviews too because someone there is slacking and the sad part is that they dont give a SHITTT!!! 5 freaking days to get my money back . Never again will I do personal training with them . they wanted to have me come back to do personal training. Never again because of how they handled the issue.

Ive never written a review anywhere online, but this place is a joke. At first glance, the gym seems quite nice. It is well equipped with a nice variety of machines that are all relatively new. However, when it comes to the experience at this gym, its quite miserable. In general, the staff is not very friendly or helpful. In fact, theyre quite rude. One evening while working out, there was a cycling class taking place. The music playing was so loud I swore I was lifting weights in a latin nightclub. We could barely hear ourselves think, let alone listen to our own music or have a conversation...and we were on the opposite end of the gym. When we kindly asked if it were possible to either close the doors to the cycling room or for the music to be turned down, we were told "you guys have Beats headphones, turn up your volume!" Are you kidding me? Today, they had a DJ with massive speakers blasting music in the gym. This time, it sounded as though I was in a rave and once again, I couldnt hear myself think or listen to my own music. Im pretty sure 99% of people who workout at gyms prefer to listen to their own music. I asked an employee if they were running a gym or a nightclub and was told that it was "customer appreciation day." I sure didnt feel appreciated. The crowd that works out at the gym isnt exactly the best either. The dumbbells and plates are literally scattered in every corner of the facility. The majority of the people dont seem to care to re-rack their weights. This makes it almost impossible to find the dumbbells or barbell youre looking for. I travel for work and Ive been to LA Fitness in Florida, Maryland, Texas, Arizona and California. This is hands down the worst LA Fitness that Ive come across. I would cancel my membership in a heartbeat, but I like using my membership at other locations across the country. Would not recommend this gym to anyone.

DISHONEST management who will LIE in order to get you to sign up! Signed up early this year together with my husband and we specifically mentioned we might be traveling overseas for a long period of time this year. "No problem", they said, it was only $10/mo to freeze our membership for the BOTH of us. This was a deal breaker and we signed up because they guaranteed that price. However, 3 days before moving out of the country we stopped by to freeze the membership and were told it was now $10 per PERSON. What?! Thats not what we signed up for! So we said wed rather cancel altogether to which they replied we had to come back during business hours (9 to 5 - who has time for that ?!) The lady at the reception then said she would, as an exception, honor the $10 a month for the both of us like wed been told. We said OK and now that were in Thailand we discover a $20 charge on our credit card, which means well be paying $120 the next 6 months to NOT workout at LA Fitness... Thanks a lot! The website doesnt even work so I can find an email address to complain about this so Ill have to make a very expensive phone call and I have no faith my problem will be solved. I wish wed never signed up in the first place. UPDATE: Just called and was told "$10 per person is the policy and to call back in 2 hours to speak with manager."
