Abruptly, without warning, my "check engine" light came on, along with the warnings "trac off" and "vsc." The car seemed okay, but a little research told me that this indicates that a sensor may have failed, causing the car to shut off its automatic traction. Anticipating a pricey repair job, I hunted for a shop that could look at my car today. I wanted to get this taken care of before the next heavy rain. Well, Pitman Auto Repair was pretty well booked-up; they said Id have to make an appointment... But when I described the warning lights, the owner said he might be able to take a quick look right now with his diagnostic computer. He did, and he said these indicators could have nothing to do with the problem; it could be a leak in the fuel line. He said to check to see if the gas cap was screwed on properly. Wow - sure enough, it had not been replaced correctly! I snugged it up, he reset the indicators, we re-started the engine, and its fine now. In fact, I think its running more quietly. He charged me nothing for this service. Hes a helpful guy who knows things about cars Id never suspect!

I have gone to Pitman auto for years now and trust them with all 3 of my familys cars. They do excellent work and only do what is necessary, meaning they dont take advantage of anyone. If its not broke they do not fix it. Ive had a couple of problems that I was sure were serious but Layne had his guys fix them and turned out they were minor repairs. Just this morning I went there with my belts making a very loud noise and he could have easily told me I needed a new belt or a pulley was bad but he went in his shop, got a wire brush and cleaned off a couple pulleys for me. 5 minutes later I was leaving without all the noise. I trust him and his people completely and would recommend anyone to use them. Besides great service they are still the cheapest Ive seen for oil changes and rates. I would gladly pay extra just for the peace of mind of knowing its going to be done right but as it turns out hes also the cheapest so its a win win. I live in Clayton now and I still make the drive to Pitman anytime my cars act up. You will love these guys

I am a shade-tree mechanic and cant remember when the last time I took a vehicle in to a pro-mechanic. Well, I needed to due to a timing belt slippage and took it to Pitman Auto. I cannot say enough about them. Honest, quick, and extremely affordable are some of the first words that come to mind.. I am used to hearing horror stories about rip-off artist-mechanics who scam people who are relying on the mechanics expertise and most importantly, honesty. This is the place for none of that nonsense. I was quoted upfront and it was the best quote out of five that I got. They under-priced all the others by 300 dollars. The owner is super nice, hard-working and is a no BS kind of guy. I wish there were more mechanics of this caliber. No, I do not work for them... I am just impressed with them and have always believed praise should be given to those that deserve it. Well done Pitman Auto... I wish you good business in the future.

Great Service, quick turn around, and doesnt try to sell you something you dont need. My father (who an ex-mechanic and race car driver) taught me about cars since I was a little girl. Unfortunately, theres many places I have seen try to pull the wool over my eyes, maybe because Im a woman or maybe not, but I know enough to usually spot wrong doing & if I dont know or not sure, my dad is my go-to guy. However, theres many things on a car that take time and plain hard-labor, which we arent up too (Im disabled). However, this team here has been great & we send all our friends & family there. ..so far no complaints! Plus theyre turn around has been 90% awesome! Most of the time make an appointment, drop the car off the day prior, & its back next day or two. Well I Just thought Id share since we have seen so many problems out there, we believe them to be trustworthy and most of the time the prices are reasonable. Be blessed:)

Okay, I have had 7 cars over the past 7 years and I have brought them all to Pitman Auto. I found them through the NPR Car Guys website and have not been disappointed. I think Layne has probably bought a boat by now with all the times I have brought my cars to him but not through ripping me off. 7 cars times 7 years just means a lot of maintenance, throw in the fact that none of my cars have under 150,000 miles and you get the picture. Cheaper than a new car payment though. Layne and Sean have always treated me and my family right. They stand by their work and their estimates. I am hesitant to recommend them because they are so busy as it is but I just have to say thank you for great service and support!! Mike B.

Took my car in due to check engine light being on, was told I needed a tune up and was going to cost me about 400.00 dollars with parts and labor! After repair was complete, I was told that my car still had a missfire and was going to cost more in labor to diagnose! Well, I took my car elsewhere for proper diagnosis, and it turned out the engine had some major mechanical damage, and that the tune up was totally un-nessecary! I felt ripped off and will never use pitman auto repair again. So think twice before letting someone you dont know work on youre vehicle, they may not even have a clue!

I dont trust mechanics easily as I have been burned in the past, but this shop is outstanding. Great work that is reasonable. Also, they stand behind their repairs 100% Many times they have saved me money by doing the job right the first time. Most of their equipment is top of the line as well, and they can diagnose very quickly. I think they are the best independent mechanic shop in the lower half of NJ.

Always a good experience @ Pitman Auto Repair! Fast affordable service, friendly knowlegdeable staff. They have helped me on very short notice on a couple of occasions & will even provide transportation to & from my house if I have to leave the car all day. Most importantly, they have kept my car running fine for almost 10 years. Highly recommend!

Honesty, sincerity and integrity. 3 of several words I might use to describe Pitman Auto Repair and Services. Owner, Layne Foulk. My experience was terrific and I now have a new repair shop. And, Ill bet they hand torque all lug nuts to specs. Its that kind of attention to detail that wont imperil your family when theyre on the highway.
