I have been a member for 6 years and never had a problem, but there is new management and they are doing renovations.I went to workout on my lunch break this week to find that there are no locker room/bathroom facilities for use for women available. When I entered and checked into the club, you would think the girl at the front desk would mention that before someone in dress clothes with a gym bag walked all the way to the back to the locker room. So I came back to the desk to find there is no estimated completion date for womens locker room and bathroom. I would expect a temporary changing area and bathroom area to be set up before you shut the regular one down for an indefinite amount of time. Between the rude service and no idea when I will be able to use the gym again I called and canceled. They told me I have to pay for 2 more months of the gym that I cant use or they will send a collections agency after me. I called VISA and had them block any further charges. After six years to be treated like this I think is ridiculous.

I would argue the best gym in the county if not the state. The manager is phenomenal. Had an issue at the gym recently and he personally called me to talk about it. Was not expecting that at all. He cares about all of his members. Been to a lot of gyms and most of the time management either does not do anything or does not care. This Retro is different! Its not even a mile from where I live so its very convenient for me. Lots of variety in equipment which I dont see at other gyms. Very spacious and clean. Everyone more or less keeps to themselves. I have recommended it to my friends and will continue to do so. Even if you do not live nearby I still recommend this Retro. Highly recommend it to anyone reading this review. Manager is a really really great guy.

I had a incident with the owners son,I asked him a simple question "would u mine if I use the wifi because my phone had bad reception in the theater room "he automatically started cursing at me and asked me to leave.I asked him what I did wrong he continued to tell me to leave or he will call the police.he made a scene and called the police interuppted my work out and everybody elses.I have been a member for a year and this is how he chose to treat his customer.during my experience all the other employees where very polite and informative...so if u sign up make sure to stay away from the owners son..he is the type of person to power trip on customers because his father owns the gym

Retro is an excellent bargain for a recession buck. Unfortunately it is difficult to cancel. Definitely do not email or use regular postage. They are prone to losing letters instead of clients. Hence spend the extra buck to get it certified mailed a month in advance before leaving. They do bill 30 days after you cancel no matter what your excuse or situation. Aside from a horrible cancellation process the other processes are up to business par. Cleaner than other gyms which can be more costly and even more crowded. If your into swimming, racquet ball, basketball, etc...this is not the gym for you. Its a liftin and strict cardio gym...good luck!

Once you become a member, expect to NEVER stop being a member. I have been trying to cancel my membership for almost a year. Despite phone calls and sending letters by certified mail to ABC financial, I am still being charged random amounts of money by Retro via ABC Financial monthly. My bank has even intervened and put a forced stop on all payments, but all that got me was a fine from ABC financial and they were still able pull the payments. Its despicable and I will never join a gym ever again because of this experience. Working out at home and outside is just fine, and no one can randomly charge me for it.

Been going to this gym for 5 Years now and it is by far better than ever now. For the first 4 years it was a love-hate relationship. The gym goers and its close proximity to home made it a great place to lift but the management was sub-par to say the least. Now, this past year, new management took over it is everything I could ask for. Well equipped, great staff, great community and clean. I am moving soon. In the past I would always say I looked forward to joining a new, better gym. Today, with all the recent changes I can proudly and sadly say I am REALLY going to miss Retro Fitness Kingston. 5 Stars.

This is not a review of the gym just the managment. Currently having billing issues with this gym. Quit years ago when it was under different ownership and Im not being taken seriously by current management to try to get this resolved. There was a mistake made by past management and now the current owner is refusing to listen to me. Very argumentative and demeaning. Trying to get money from someone who they never provided a service to and quit the exact way past management told me to and they still messed up my account and charged me and are ruining my credit. Very messed up situation not being handled well.

I would give less than 1 star but Google doesnt have anything less. This gym is a joke. Family run (and thats obvious) and pathetic. Theyre getting rid of the one good thing left about it: Les Mills! My wife just joined recently and was all set to start her group classes, so I upgraded my wifes membership, PAID FOR IT, and now they getting rid of it. The whole reason she joined was for Body Combat and Body Pump! Needless to say, shes quitting. This gym is a waste of your time. Go somewhere else as there are plenty of other gyms in the area who are committed and serious.

Im satisfied with the gym. If you want to workout and know what you are doing, you wont have a problem. I do mind that the water fountain is never working properly, the trainers (not all of them) are a joke, and I dont think they ever clean the tanning rooms (they are not the best but ok, for the cheap price). Sometimes you will get a greeting when you come in, sometimes you wont. Sometimes they dont turn on the AC during summer 90 degree days, sometimes they do. Anyway, for the price, I really dont care. I come in, I use the iron, and I get out.

I love this gym!! I switched over from Retro North Brunswick because of their new spin room with an awesome spin schedule. The spin instructors are amazing, the schedule is very convenient with classes nearly everyday, twice a day. The front desk people are so nice. My husband and I both train with a personal train there, who is great! And the cherry on top is Ralph, the owner, who went above and beyond to help me iron out the mess I had with Retro North Brunswick; very classy guy. I only have good things to say about this place.....Thank you!!

I tried to make a new account just for 2 months but their policy says thats ok you can go but first of all pay 12 months fee that is 100 bucks plus paper work that is 20 dollar and I think this is horrible because noone gym has fees that takes over than 6 months. And I decided to go to the fitness 19, its 8 mins more by driving but they dont ask you to pay fees for all year and manager made me a very good discount so now I can pay 130 dollars for all the year (with fees) instead of 140 just for two months.
