This gym is dominated by machines. If you want to target each muscle group with individual contraptions, youll love this gym. If you enjoy siddling up and down narrow spaces between benches and machines, RF is the place for you. Bring your own towel and disinfectant, because this gym doesnt supply any cleaners to cleanse the machines and benches post-workout. Can you say "staph infection"? There are no squat racks, or suitable places to deadlift. Really, its hard to do any sort of free-weight exercises because it is cramped. Push-ups and sit-ups are a challenge due to the small space allotted to the "mat" area. The membership is $20 a month, which seems like a deal, until you pony up the sign-up fee and end up shelling out over $100 for your first month. You have to jump through 3 hoops to cancel your membership, and then you arent given any receipt or written acknowledgment of your cancellation. 1. You must submit a written letter IN PERSON or via CERTIFIED MAIL to the manager, Mort, the "old guy" referenced in PAULINAS review. Both modes of submission cost you time and money (driving down there and delivering it, or driving to the post office and paying to mail your letter certified). This requirement really just shows that Mort cant trust his own associates to deliver mail to him, that he needs mail to be certified or hand-delivered to him. Think about that. A manager not trusting his associates? AND then upon hand-submitting the notice of cancellation, he wont give you any receipt because he said people have "forged" receipts in the past. If you kept proper records of people canceling their memberships, why would this be a worry? 2. AFTER submitting your letter, you must call back a week or so later to ensure that your paperwork was entered properly and that RF did indeed commence the cancellation process. Otherwise, you need to do Part 1 ALL OVER AGAIN. 3. RetroFitness will continue to bill you for the remaining 60 days until your membership is finally cancelled. RetroFitness is cheap for a reason. Always do a free-trial of any prospective gyms. Observe the lay-out, how many machines versus free-weights, the clientele, how crowded it gets during the hours you want to exercise, and whether you feel comfortable there. Any gym worth its salt will offer you a trial and the manager/trainer should answer all your questions truthfully and without exasperation.

At first I LOVED this gym because it was so close to where I lived. Then I started working in the Hackensack area so I decided to go there after work every day or every other day. I thought that perhaps my membership would eventually crossover to the Hackensack location but I guess it never did. So one day I had the day off and decided to workout at my old Wallington gym.... this is EXACTLY how I get greeted by the idiot woman at the front desk after I scanned my card. "Whooooooooooa!!!!! YOU havent been here in FOREVER!" and at that time EVERYBODY around the area locked their eyes on me. Talk about being a little embarrassed. I told her "Yea.. Ive been going to Hackensack" which she could CLEARLY see according to my logs. After going to Hackensack and even Paramus (goregous setup there) I noticed what a sh*thole this Wallington location is. Also the people working the counter always have "better" things to do than help you. God forbid you want to pay for a water or a pair of headphones- Its like Im disrupting their life. I will be going to other locations, even though I can literally jump in my car, drive 1 minute and be at this gym, Id rather drive 30 to another.

if you only want to do cardio then I guess $20 / month is ok. everyone else who is even semi-serious about working out should avoid this place. its very small, there arent many free weights, people do not put weights back to their proper location (they will either leave weights on the ground or just randomly throw it back on the rack where it does not belong). bathrooms are not the cleanest, maybe they are cleaned / restocked once a day at the most. on many days you will find that there are no empty lockers, unless you are willing to spend 10 minutes looking / waiting for one. they recently built an addition, but thats a joke. when machines break down (and they do regularly), expect them to be out of service at least a week. and since this gym gets crowded, you will spend even more time waiting in line.

Gym its self it’s ok a little bit small, but that’s fine. When it comes to costumer service OMG it’s horrible, especially the “old guy” I am not sure who is he owner or manager but he is horrible. The only time he is nice is when you want to sign up! Also 2 for 1 enrollment is such a bull. When you go alone you will pay $90 and when you will go with your friend you will pay$ 180, may me 20 bucks a month is not much but enrollment fee is bad. Lastly contract is for 1 year and even after you contract will end you have to give then 60 days prior to cancel your membership (be sure to send a certified mail, just in case your letter will get lost in mail)

Im not sure what other reviewers are talking about, but there are plenty of free weights there. There are 2 benches, a decline bench, 2 squat racks, and Olympic platform and dumbbells that go up to 140. How is that not enough free weight? HOWEVER, the place is a freaking mess 24x7. Nobody puts anything away. The gym is next to Passaic and a lot of clientele is from there. They treat the gym with as much respect as their neighborhood. If youve ever been to Passaic youll know exactly what I mean. Its too damned tight in there too. Machines are on top of each other. Oh and the customer service does suck. Theyre horrible.

Im seeing a lot of bad reviews here out of context. This is one of the best gyms Ive ever been to simply because the staff leaves you alone, and the members are focused on their workouts. You will not get harassed or followed around by staff policing members about putting weights away or for trivial things such as chalk. This a gym for people who come to workout and that is exactly what this gym is good for. Plenty of space, plenty of weights and a hassle free environment that allows you to do what youre there for 24 hours a day (even holidays)....WORKOUT!!!!!

This gym is big and very clean. Overall, worth the $19.99 monthly cost, but the temperature in there is a bit too warm, and it always feels humid in there. Also, I had a bad experience with a trainer. He told me that I need to lose 30 lbs, which would have been fine if he hadnt followed that up with a look of disgust and a nasty, "But you knew that already." Thankfully, I dont think he works there anymore.

The old men in the front desk is horrible. I have motorcycle and i request to te guy to hold my helmet in the front desck and he says not. I can put the helmet in the lockers because not fitting inside. they dont have afordable bike or motorcycle parking space. Any way i cancel my membership because i dont fell confortable in this place. The old man think like a dog. Beware!!!

This is a somewhat decent gym for anyone looking to do strictly cardio, but not for anyone looking to lift or athletes. The weights are ALWAYS scattered or missing and a the equipment tends to be broken often. Most of the staff gives good customer service, but the facility could use good management. It is a little depressing trying to workout in such a messy place.
