I normally do not write reviews but I felt in this day and age of internet pricing and low ball estimates this was well deserved. 1st Ill let you in on a little information, I was in the moving industry for over 30 yrs, retired now for over 10 yrs, so Im pretty knowledgeable when it comes to this. I called 4 companies, 3 on long Island, 1 from Queens, I didnt let any of them know my knowledge or background in the moving business, 3 of the companies gave a price based on the total weight of the items being moved, I wasnt happy about that and didnt want any surprises, Leavy gave it based on a binding rate, along with the move I needed the home completely packed. The weight based estimates were so far apart from each other I tossed them out 2 minutes after they left and let me add no one gave a true estimate of what I was moving. I chose Leavy, they were just a bit more pricier than the others but it was a solid firm price.and represented the move on hand. my decision was based on that fact, and on the knowledge, up front honesty and the personal attention that the owner Greg showed while there. Packing day came, the crew was polite, personable and made a very taxing day comfortable, they couldnt do enough, I watched closely as they packed all my possessions, they were great, the head guy on 3 different occasions reminded us to separate anything that wasnt going into there boxes or on the truck and put them in a separate space ( biggest problem is people dont separate there things, than it ends up packed or on the truck...and of course its the movers fault) Move day 8 am sharp a immaculate truck pulled up, the crew were fantastic, everything was wrapped and protected before it went on the truck, anything that needed to come apart was done and all parts/screws etc.. was bagged and attached to the pcs. This was a all day affair , we came out of a 3500 sq ft home in Laurel Hollow, and moving into a similar size home in Boca Raton Fla. The men again reminded us to make sure anything that wasnt going on the truck be placed in a separate area so as not to be put on the truck by mistake, they even helped put some awkward things into my car. Greg said that this time of the year things were busy so I would probably get delivered 7 to 10 days later, I got a call on the 5th day from the driver and said he had 2 stops in the area, I could be delivered in 2 days or on the 3rd day...my choice, we said 3 days would work, on the 8th day I received a call from the driver he said he would be there between 9 and 11 am, 9:30 am the same driver that picked me up was there with his crew to deliver. I only contracted to have my fragiles ( dishes/crystal/lamps/mirrors to be unpacked, all made it down safely and undamaged, while reassembling my Baby Grand piano my wife did notice a small chip on the base of the leg, the driver noted it on the contract, we received a call from Greg 2 days later, he congratulated us on now being a official Floridian, told me he was having a repair man call us within the week and make an appt to touch up the chip. All I can say is that Greg takes pride in his reputation and his company, this is the way its supposed to be done....Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, oh and to end off as I wright this review the repair guy just left and the chip is completely undetectable. Sorry for the lengthy review but again so well deserved

I went with Leavy due to the great reviews in hopes to have a great experience. I met with Greg who was very kind and helpful. His quote was a bit pricier than others I had quoted, but well worth it if it meant my belongings would make it from Long Island to Florida in a timely manner without any major headaches along the way. Moving day came and the movers were all very polite and seemed professional. First mistake, they packed up all of my essentials that I had purchased for my family that was supposed to go in the car with us. All the important stuff that we were going to live off of until our stuff came...air mattresses, pillows, personal items, etc. They were told NOT to pack them, but they did anyway. When I noticed they were gone I was told its too far back in the truck to retrieve them. Huge inconvenience and waste of money but accidents happen, right? Then I noticed a huge puddle going into the basement and liquid running down the walls. Turned out someone knocked over a full and unopened package of Round Up and punctured the bottle. Instead of putting outside they turned it over on its side and put it back on the shelf. Round Up is extremely toxic and needs to be used with caution. So I was left to clean up the mess with very limited supplies. It should have been disposed of immediately outside when they broke it, not put back on a shelf to leak down the walls and puddle in a non-ventilated area and left for me to figure out how to clean it up. This was just poor workmanship in my opinion, but you move on, right? No, I couldnt, because I had to call a plumber because one of them BROKE my toilet. I only noticed this after they left when I was doing my final walk through of the house. So instead of hitting the road, I was scrambling for plumber last minute. So here I am, presently 12 days after that pick up day, sitting in my new home with my family still without our stuff. Did I mention that on our first meeting for that initial quote Greg told me that our stuff should arrive no later than 10 days, but he figures we should get it in about 8 days? Well I just got a call from Geg telling me it will be another 5 days until our stuff arrives. Apparently it still has not even left Long Island. I didnt mind paying top dollar if it meant I would get a quality move and this was far from it.

This is a review of Leavy Brothers Moving, located in Amityville, Long Island. I can summarize the entire experience in one word, outstanding. It started with speaking to, and then meeting with, Greg, the owner. We had lived in our house in Rockland County, NY for 40 years and were very concerned about moving all the things we had accumulated to our new home in Long Island. Greg was pleasant, knowledgeable and reassuring. He even made an extra trip (after the first visit to give us an estimate) from Long Island to Rockland, just to bring us extra wardrobes. The day of the move the 4 man moving team (headed by David) was fast, efficient and extremely nice, even though they had to deal with major accidents on both the Long Island Expressway and the Tappan Zee Bridge. They wouldn’t let us do a thing and were professional and cooperative, even moving boxes to different floors in our new home after we made mistakes as to where things should go. Finally, after almost completely unboxing, we were sure that some kitchen items that we had elected to pack (a mixer and a food processor) were missing. We called Greg who calmly suggested we finish unboxing and see if they turned up. After we finished unboxing (except for some boxes that were not to be unpacked and were to be put in storage) the kitchen items were still missing. Greg sent David (the head of the moving crew) and another man to our home. After a half hour of going through our boxes (both opened and unopened) they found the missing items in a box we had mislabeled as intended for storage. We were terribly embarrassed. We apologized to the men and then called Greg to apologize. Greg, as always, was calm and pleasant. He said “These things happen, don’t worry about it”. If, in the future, we are ever asked to recommend a moving company, it will definitely be Greg and Leavy Brothers.
