One star is for the quality instructors and the polite front desk staff. Half of a star is for the new gym equipment (although, they are already starting to neglect it and things are breaking at a gym that is less than two months old). Half of a star is for the price. I joined the gym for one reason only: group fitness. Ive had to leave class several times, or just not go at all because its too uncomfortable. One solution an instructor had was to open the back wall/glass garage door to provide cross-ventilation. Thats definitely preferable to conditions that are ripe for heat stroke. There are no fans in the group fitness area. There is air conditioning, but you can only really feel it if youre directly under a vent. Ive requested help several times, but air temperatures can only be adjusted by the manager and there isnt always a manager. They only cool the room for group fitness classes. Maybe they should start cooling it before the classes, too? The fan upstairs only covers the cardio equipment, but thats okay. I can see why people would complain if it was on at high speed. Its great on low because it circulates air without freezing people from excess evaporative cooling. The overhead fan was broken, but is now fixed. Theres a treadmill that has been broken for a couple of weeks. Its central location is a pain if you want to do the Tread n Shred class. A couple of the treadmills have broken fans, but its not too hot, so I didnt get a different treadmill. The gym opened August 1st. I am writing this September 25th. Im surprised they arent fixing things that broke in less than two months! There are not a ton of people there when I come, so that is nice. I come at non-peak hours though. I have trepidation about coming at peak hours because of the lack of air circulation in the group fitness area. Its a little non-intuitive, but I come out of the gym midday, when its over 90% humidity and over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, to get some cool air. To give you an idea of the type of person I am, I wear a coat at night right now and we rarely use our central air conditioning. Ive lived most of my life either in California, Arizona, or the Caribbean, so Im used to working out, hiking, and running in hot weather. I never really noticed a problem with the group fitness sound, but someone pointed out that the lack soundproofing/sound baffles makes the reverberation intense in the group fitness class and makes it difficult to understand the instructor. Now that she pointed that out, I really notice it Maybe its because there are not that many bodies in the classes to absorb sound? Maybe some ceiling fans might improve the air circulation and sound quality? They only have one wall of TRX set up because they are missing one of the bars from the other side (there are two TRX setups, but only one is usable) so the size of the TRX classes are limited. It hasnt been a problem really, though, because the instructor has had half of the class do free weights, while half of the class does TRX. If more than eight people showed up to class there would be a space situation, though. I dont mind doing half of the class with free weights because I feel like it makes me work a larger range of muscles (I might even prefer the half-and-half situation!), but if someone showed up for a TRX-only class, they might be a little bummed. A lot of the Bosu balls arent properly inflated. Maybe someone could add that to their checklist of things to do to maintain the gym? The Customer Service and Corporate Headquarter numbers only lead you back to individual gyms. The "operator" option leads you to a voicemail that has a full inbox and does not allow one to leave a message or talk to a human. Theyre Manhattan-based, so Im going in person to try to get a response. They dont care enough about the members to provide a $20 fan. That says a lot. If they arent keeping the equipment fixed and its only a few months old, thats a bad sign.

Me and my husband have been a loyal customers since theyve been opened in 2015. We always were very happy with the gym and their customer service. Unfortunately my review concern to unpleasant situation that i experienced in your Crunch Gym on Greenpoint an no reaction from their menagement after we send them an email about the situation that happened to me. As usual I checked in into the gym and my younger sisters always waits for me downstairs on the sofas so i can keep eye on her and your front assistant were always very understandable and positive with that. When we passed the desk, one of their employees XXX said that he is a general manager, but when he was asked to write his personal info, he put down "fitness manager", ( Not to mention he was very impolite). What he said was "can not let her in to the gym because she is not a member and she is not 18". I was going to sign her up and take copule of FI classes soon in few months when she turns 18 but that will not happen now. Moreover I was really surprised, because every single time when she came with me they let her in without any problems. I explain to Mr XXX how it been for past few months, but he strongly refused and continued being arrogant and condescending. I told him that I do not want to be talk to like that. I has asked two more times if she can seat right there for the last time, because she have no place to go and this is late evening and we get back home together to Bayside. Unfortunately he refused said no without any cooperation or understanding. I was very happy with their service, but Mr XXX was really unhelpful and unprofessional, specially when I asked him several times. (He seemd like he had a bad day and, therefore, decided to rejects my request, even though I politely asked him for the last time. Furthemre I asked if she can wait on the front sofas, close to the exit, he answered with such an attitude " If she really want to, she can." I feelt really disappointed and ashamed. Sometimes it only takes one person unfortunately. My review is not because of the gym equipment are bad, but because of how it was dealt with and the complete absence of reaction from the menagemnt side.

Decent gym for the price. Staff is friendly. Pretty good hours, which is nice for me since I have an unusual work schedule. Equipment and weight options are miles ahead of a certain yellow and purple gym. I like the music they play--it is energetic and gets me pumped to have a great workout. That said, the biggest complaint about Crunch is they tend to turn the music off 30 minutes BEFORE closing, so its just awkwardly silent and it makes the environment unwelcome, like they want people to leave mega early so the employees can close up shop in peace. I asked them to turn it back on once, and they did, but the next night they did it again, killing the tunes 40 minuted before closing. Ridiculous, management please fix this!
