The charging system light on my 12 year old BMW 330 came on while driving into the city before rush hour. I have fixed my own cars most of my life and knew I probably had a bad alternator and limited time until my car was dead. After checking the battery, wires and fuses to rule other causes out; I started to look for a local shop. The reviews by other google users led me to this shop. Fearing I would be taken for a ride because I have out of state plates, I drove into Check Points parking lot anyways at 7 am because I figured I had little to no choice. First, their shop does not look like it does on google maps. They have obviously updated it since the photos online were taken. Second, they were not only working at 7 am but friendly and hooked me up right away: tested the charging system and confirmed the alternator was dying, set up a plan, and drove me to the train station so I could still make it into my meeting in the city. The owner himself called me back with the estimate and reportedly did the work on my car because they were so busy. I am very appreciative that they fit me in, fixed my car and made sure the rest of my day was not ruined. The experience felt genuine, helpful, and friendly. Total price was fair and honest: $200 for alternator and $90 per hour. Cheapest I could find the same parts online was for $189. Maybe the alternator could have been salvaged and repaired by replacing the diodes or rectifier if I was doing it myself, but shops do not normally do that anymore and it could have meant extra labor without a warranty. The repair was one week ago and I will update if it goes pear shaped; otherwise I recommend trusting Check Right if you are stuck or dont feel like working on your car. I would return to this shop for regular maintenance if I lived in the area.

I looked around for a close mechanic to work so I could more easily get back there when my vehicle was finished. This place is amazing, Nick and his associates were very kind and truly knew there stuff. I went in for a problem with a cold start, figuring maybe in need of replacement of something. They first off dropped me off at work, they looked over all electrical aspects and tested and found a simple problem. Nick explained everything and really insures what he and his associates do is complete and does not hesitate to go the extra mile if what he does the first time doesnt succeed. He also didnt even charge me to take a look at the car and fix the simple problem. I walked out paying nothing. Great experience overall and he even remembers your name which makes it feel personalized ! I would recommend them to anyone!

WOW! I was 250 miles from home, just about to drive home when my car broke down. I drive a stick shift and the car got stuck in second gear and the stick shifter was just flopping around. I took it to Checkpoint Auto and Nick got me in immediately. The problem was going to be getting parts for a Saturn - which could take a few days. I certainly didnt want to be stuck in Long Island for a couple of days. Anyway, Nick figures out a way to fix the car by literally taking it apart and drilling a hole in a ball and attaching a bolt in it to hold the stick shifter to the cable mechanism. He charged me for two hours service. He was honest, knowledgeable, and very fair. Outstanding service in an extraordinary situation. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Checkpoint Automotive is highly recommended by me. Nick is an honest businessman and I trust him and his crew to do the right thing by me. I had a gasket leak that they had replaced less than a year before and they fixed it w/o charge under warranty. I can tell you from experience, many garages will come up with lame excuses as to why the failure of something that they repaired is not covered by the warranty, but not Nick. I recommend Checkpoint Automotive to my friends, co-workers and family. If I didnt believe in them, I wouldnt put my neck out like that.

The best auto shop I have ever visited. Really honest owner. You can immediately sense the amount of passion Nick has for this business. And he treats his customers like they are his close friends. I have never had an experience in an auto shop as welcoming as here and I dont ever want to set foot in another shop ever again. His prices are ridiculously affordable as well. If youre looking for a mechanic theres none better than the ones at this shop.
