Let me start off by saying that Ive been a long time member of 18 years with Bally Total Fitness. I left them when 24 Hour Fitness bought them out, raised prices without bringing any improvements, and not being a actual 24 hour fitness. Ive wanted to join Planet Fitness for a while now, but these reviews are very negative, and I chose to believe them. After wasting thousands for my own gym and using it for anything but working out, I decided that its time I try out the gym for myself. I nearly signed up for equinox, and I am so happy that I didnt, because what I pay for planet fitness for a year is nearly what equinox costs in one month. I chose the $20 per month membership, which is actually $20.83, and that is a huge bargain in comparison to what I am getting from going to this gym. Ive been going there for a month already, and these are my thoughts: The gym is no equinox, but it doesnt have to be, because all I want is to workout and stay fit. I love the feeling that this gym promotes, and you can be in shape or out of it, but no one will judge you for it. People go there for one reason only, and it is to workout. The gym is clean, and no equipment is broken. Rarely do I ever have to wait for a machine, and almost everyone wipes it after the use. Same staff that scan your card are the one that clean the place, and they do it often. One complaint I have is those big windows let in way too much sunlight, which makes working out close to them is a bit tough, definitely get a tan while doing so lol. Simple fix is to turn machines facing the other way. Locker room/Bathroom/Showers, I have no complaints about, always clean and never nasty smell. Its the first gym that I actually shower in. Ballys was just nasty, I hope 24 Hour fixed that issue. I mean if I have to compare both gyms, PF is thousand times better. I am not a muscle head, but PF gym has almost everything I need. Wish they added few more Ab machines, but so far itll do. Lots of cardio equipment, which I now use as well. Overall I highly recommend this gym, and I am so thankful that I did not go the equinox way.

I have been going to this gym for 4 to 5 days per week since September 2016 its not the best but it is convenient for me because I can go to the gym and still get to work on time. For over a month now I have been complaining about the lack of hot water in the showers. I have been given all type of excuses as to why the water has been cold (the hot water comes on later, there is nothing wrong, the water was being used by other tenants - this one was the most ridiculous, etc.) However, the recurring theme from the staff is that the manager is aware of the complaints. So, if the manager is aware of the problem why isnt something being done? Having the boiler looked at is not enough because something is obviously wrong. Or my theory is that management turn the hot water down to save money. This leave me to the conclusion that management does not care about the customers. Regardless of the amount of money customers pay per month it should not be reflective of the services customers receive. I leave from the gym to work therefore showering is important to me, today I did not shower because the water was ice cold. Other times the water is barely luke warm. It is unfair and very frustrating. After you finish pumping iron and wet from sweating the last thing you want on your body is cold water. The convenience of the location will not be enough to keep me going to a gym that does not put the need of the customers first. Also, please stop with the candies (tooties rolls), there are wrapper paper from the ground floor, the steps, all the way to the upper floor. It looks nasty and there is a feel of ghettoness to the gym.

Ive been going for a period of about 3 and a half years to this gym. While most are quick to give it a low grade, I will hold back and review the establishment for its effort to provide the service we all pay for. Yes, it is overcrowded between the hours of 4-8 pm on the weekdays, and yes people do hog the machines as well as the weights. People also seldom wipe the sweat off of the machines and leave dumbbells all over the floor after they use. Thats improper gym etiquette, and thats the price those who have some pay when they go to a gym with a bunch of inconsiderate people. So its not the staffs fault, I always see them making their best effort to keep the peace neat and clean, but how do you deal with the hordes of people who act like they own the gym and can leave their garbage everywhere and thrash the lockers/restrooms? I have witnessed the staff fully wipe down every mirror/sink/toilet in the mens locker while changing, and five mins later some jerk is washing his hands and feels the need to wet the entire floor/sink before making his way to the hand drier on the wall. Lets be fair and rate the facility honestly. Oh and did I mentioned that mid April this year they replaced like 3/4 of the weight machines in the 2nd floor and also added a few extras like 2 extra racks for bench pressing and squatting. That to me means effort to provide a service.

In defense of this Planet Fitness, located in Richmond Hill/Jamaica, Queens - its a great gym! Clean, organized and with a very efficient and friendly staff. Ive worked at 2 posh Pilates studios and one yoga studio in the city. This PF is a wellness facility that tosses snobbery, pretentiousness and exclusivity out the window - no packages being pushed here - not that kind of gym. If youre there for a workout, if youre there to sweat, then interior "aesthetics" should never be a concern. Its also not a meat market, like one gym on Union Turnpike that shall remain umnamed. Its a massive, renovated warehouse of efficient gym equipment; lots of great cardio and strength training machines. I commute there via subway or bus, so I cant say anything about parking, but overall Im so happy its here! I became a member a few months after they opened and it elevated the community. It helped bring in new businesses. It raised the moral of the neighborhood. There also isnt any gym-timidation; people of all sizes, all fitness levels, from grannies to working mothers wanting to take control of their health, to nurses and doctors from Jamaica Hospital needing to destress, to friendly body builders. I never feel embarrassed or judged. Its a positive and kind environment. JOIN!!! You wont regret it - and its a hell of a deal at just $10 a month! ;)

This is my second membership at this gym. It is OK and it is a CHEAP price for a gym. You can get your machine work out or cardiovascular workout done here. As other reviews stated parking SUCKS. I am not much of a people person ( people i dont know) so i go at off peak and late hours so i dont have to look for parking or wait to work out . Alot of the members SUCK TOO.As stated in other reviews leaving a puddle of sweat on the bench is the norm. Can not hold that against the gym because people are DISGUSTING SLOBS that were raised by PIGS. BUT I think the gym should put some kind of a system in effect to punish people that do it repeatedly. Take their membership away after the 3rd offense. That would be fair. Lockers are available in the bathroom.. Bathroom could be cleaner but again some people are just SLOBS. I wear thick adidas flip flops in the shower. I dont use the massage chairs or tanning facilities so I can not comment on them. The one BIG thing missing from this gym is the Barbell rack. I used a planet fitness in staten island for one summer when I was working in that area. They had 20 pound to 60 pound barbells on a rack. Why does this planet fitness NOT have barbells ?
