I am not the type of person to write reviews online but I am doing it because I had a really bad experience with this place. Hoping whoever reads this will consider service somewhere else. So my car broke down on route 17, right before the 100A exit. I called state trooper and they sent tow truck from SAMS service station. This happened the night before Thanksgiving.I asked them to check my car (a Toyota) out for me but they said they wouldnt be able to do it till Friday. On Friday, I got a call from Ryan from SAMS and he told me that the timing belt broke and the valves are bent. He told me that I would have to replace the entire engine. The cheapest used engine they got is $1500 plus $1000 in labor. In disbelief, I called up a toyota dealership and other mechanics near my town and they told me that my car has a non-interference engine and a broken belt will not damage the engine. I decided to have my car tow back to my town and have a local mechanic work on it. But SAMS were going to charge me $225 for storage (3 days total including Thanksgiving), +$89 diagnose +$100 initial towing and $600+ for towing it for another 100 miles to the Toyota dealership. Total was $1000+ but I was able to talk it down to $750. I had to pay in cash and no receipt. Turns out all my car needed was a new timing belt and water pump, which only costed me $600. SAMS were going to replace my engine with 87K miles for an used engine with 104K miles and charge me $2500. To sum it up, this place is a scam. Stay away.

At 3:45 PM on September 4, 2014, the 10 foot U-Haul box truck and tow dolly which I was driving broke down while exiting Route 17 East at the Exit 100 traffic circle in Liberty, NY. A New York State Trooper quickly responded and called for a tow truck, as the truck was obstructing traffic. Sams Towing and Recovery responded and towed the truck with the tow dolly attached 7/10ths of a mile to their yard. They first attempted to charge me $356 (cash only), but after I complained to a New York State Police supervisor, they dropped it down to $324 (cash only). I find it outrageous that a tow truck company which is part of the New York State Polices Rotation Tow Program is allowed to rip off people who have the misfortune to break down on Route 17 in Sullivan County. ***Update: Id just like to note the fact that Katelynn Quaglio, Corey Barry, and Ryan Wells, the people who posted the most recent 5 star reviews of this business, are in fact employees of Sams Towing and Recovery and their phony reviews are to be discounted. They are posting phony 5 star reviews of this business at the behest of their boss in order to boost its cumulative star rating and hide the fact that many real customers have posted poor reviews and star ratings because they have had unfavorable experiences.***

Absolutely Horrible! I called for a quote and and spoke to SIX different people before finally receiving a quote! At first I was told that my request sounded "fishy" and he didnt want to give me an answer. When I was simply asking the cost of getting towed from one destination to another. He said it dependsn i gave him a hypothetical situation. He then me to hold on but instead HUNG UP THE PHONE ONE ME! When I called back the person picked up the phone and hung it back up and me! When I called back again I spoke to five different people who all asked me a bunch of questions and then asked me to hold on and another person picked up the phone saying "Hello" not even a "Hello this is so and so, how can I help you?" Completely rude! Completely unprofessional! And just a weird situation. HORRIBLE SERVICE!

I dont understand why there are bad reviews on here. I broke down on 17 near liberty and Sams showed up promptly after I called AAA. They got a factory oem clutch kit for my Nissan and had it ready to go literally as soon as was humanly possible. They also saved all of the old parts so that I could see exactly what had happened that caused my car to break down. They gave me a fair price for the parts and labor. For the record I dont work for them, nor am I related to anyone who does. I live 150 miles away and really had no choice but to let them fix my car and they didnt take advantage of that situation. Thank you Sams!

This place is a complete scam. They claimed to have replaced all of my break pads and rotors 2 months ago. My car started squeaking a week ago. I brought it in again, and they said the front break pads and rotors looked like they had never been replaced. They claimed to have no record of me ever being in there (even though I paid with a credit card), and then proceeded to charge me for the same service they claimed to have given my car previously. This place took advantage of me because I am a new car owner. Dont ever go there. They will lie to you.

Flat tire in the middle of nowhere in Sullivan County, NY. Called AAA. After AAA made several calls to different closer towing companies, Sams Towing was the only towing company that was willing to go the distance and help a stranded individual. Anthony the mechanic was courteous, helpful and knowledgeable and arrived in a very timely fashion. Definite recommendation when you need a tow. Thank you Sams!

Scam Scam Scam. They forced my son to tow his car to their shop, then charged for "clean up" when the vehicle was not damaged leaving glass broken at all. They said it couldn t be driven because the door was damaged, that it had to go to their shop for the appraiser... They lied at every chance, scammed for every dollar. Avoid at all cost, they are borderline criminal.

Sams has saved me twice. And I am not from the local area. First time I had a blow out. Of course I did not have a regular sized tire. But they worked with me and made the day easy to deal with. Second time my daughter broke down and they were there within minutes to help. From what I can tell they did not rip me off either time. Would definitely recommend.

Company wasnt so bad bad before, but now with the new owners it is the worst mechanic I have ever been to. Lied to me thinking I didnt know anything about vehicles. Called them out on it and they really messed with my vehicle and made the problem even worse. I wasnt even getting it repaired just diagnosed. They dont even deserve 1 star

Do not get your vehicle towed by this Company. SAMs body shop freaking sucks. I had to wait 2 days at a hotel just for a Tire. They brought me in without telling me they wouldnt have that Tire until I got to the shop in order to take your money. DO NOT GET TOWED BY THIS COMPANY!!!!
