Aaron Thomas
Hi, My name is Aaron Thomas from staten island, NY. I am a member of retro fitness and had signed up for the membership in January 2017 as there was a special going on with 0 down and 20$ per month and also if i take a Personal Trainer for a month i get a month free for PT. I was told to meet Nick at richmond hill road (springville) location near trader joes in Staten island. I took the benefit for the PT for a month and was told to contact Nick once i see the charge for the PT on the CC so that he can go ahead and cancel the PT so that I dont get charged in the next month bill. When I signed up and used my card/swiped my card and was told to sign it on the Trackpad to get the receipt which I did for the month as a new customer. I was trying to get hold of Nick but he was never available in person nor on the phone. I even checked with my PT and he said you will have to call and speak to Nick regarding the agreement which he gave me. I later found out that he was fired my that location or Retro Fitness becuase he was trying to dupe customer and making them sign up and give out false information so on and so forth. I was told to speak to another PT manager his name is Anthony in the same location. He apologized with what happened and told me that he will speak to the district manager and have it resolved and when he got back to me he said that he had a conversation with the District manager and gave me a resolution saying that Nick signed me up for the whole year contract and said that we can cancel that out and charge you only for 6 months agreement instead of whole year. I said that it was misrepresentation and Nick never gave me any paperwork for the signed agreement when the time I initially used to my card for PT. I now get to know that he Nick lied to me and now im stuck with these charged coming up on my card every month when I am not even using the services. I only took the PT for a month as per what Nick had signed me up for the receipt which I had received at that time. I am really very unhappy with what was told to me and what im getting it. I have stopped taking the PT sessions more than a month now. I would really appreciate it if you can have this membership cancelled for me and have the charges stopped on my credit card. Awaiting for you speedy response with the above issue. Please let me know what and how i can go ahead and cancel this membership as I am not happy with what is provided to me. PATHETIC AND FRAUDS!!!! DONT JOIN EVER

Be very careful when joining this gym. They make it very easy to join and tell you how great it is but completely ignore the cancellation policy which I found out the hard way by having to pay $140 to get out of my "agreement". My wife and I were injured in a car accident back in June and put our account on a freeze for three months. (My wifes account was on freeze prior as well because she was pregnant) We get results from our doctor indicating nerve damage in our neck and back and basically tells us we cant go to the gym anymore. I send in a certified letter stating I want to cancel. I get an email a few days later stating " our agreement " stipulates that we have a few months left and we have to keep paying. I go to the gym and bring a doctors note stating we cannot go anymore and I speak to the general manager Russell. Russell basically accused me of lying by stating numerous times that I cant be injured enough if I was able to walk up the steps to get to the gym and that I seem look ok to him. I advised him again I have nerve damage in my neck and my wife has it in her back and, yes, I am able to walk and go up steps but I cant be in a position where my neck may get tensed up. Again, Russell didnt care and gave me an attitude as to why I cant just use the treadmill. I didnt join the gym to use a treadmill. I joined to use the weights. He also brought up that first my wife needed an account freeze due to pregnancy and that she then allegedly got into a car accident. In the end, Russell basically said Im the idiot for not reading the fine print of the "membership agreement;" and I guess I am and it cost me $140. Ive been recently reading most gyms cancellation policies and they seem to be very similar so I would advise anyone looking for a gym to read the fine print carefully and would also recommend to avoid this gym because if you get injured somewhere and are not in a wheelchair they will basically accuse you of lying (even if you have a legitimate doctors note, which by the way, he didnt like either because it wasnt specific enough). And on a side note, good luck if you ever have to call their main corporate headquarters. No one is ever there and no one responds to emails.

I had a terrible experience at this gym, literally the worst. Two months ago I went in for a free personal training session because it was my birthday. This turned out to be a total scam, the personal trainer was wearing combat boots and was on her way out the door when I got there, she trained me for about 10 mins and was like oh sorry I have to leave but you can talk to my boss. Well I spoke to her boss Nick and said I would like to try out the personal training session for only one month I specifically said one month. Well Nick defrauded me and lied to my face and signed me up for 12 months. I called the gym for two months straight before anyone told me Nick was fired for defrauding customers and that I was in this ridiculous contract for services Im not even using. The new manager said he would give my name to the regional manager to see what can be done. Welp that was a lie because I called several times and was given the run around, everytime it was oh the regional manager will call you. No one called me I had to physically go to the gym and demand my money back before I was told oh yeah we cant do that we can canceled your contract but you have to pay for the 60 day notice policy. Uhm excuse me I did not sign up for 60 days of personal training I signed up for one month. So now Im stuck with this foolishness, an incompetent and swindling management and all round bizarre gym, and to make matters worse they got rid of the spin bikes, one of the only reasons I go to that gym in the first place is for the spin bikes. They didnt even have the decency to leave one for people who actually like to spin. DO NOT USE THIS GYM!!! spear yourself the headache and frustration!!!

Please dont ever sign up with this Gym. I had the worst time and experience with them, and even if you sign up be very careful and read everything before you sign up. My contract with retro was supposed to end on december 2015,but somehow they still charging me every month!!! They renewed my contract without my permission... Even though I went there and told them my situation they dont care,I asked to speak to a manager but every time I went there he wasnt there, also he was supposed to call me back but he nevere did,in other words this gym and its crew sucks. Let me give you some more info : If you ever wanna cancell your membership you re gonna have to go through the usps and send them a certified letter in writting showing that you wanna cancell your membership and wait another 2 months before they process anything and then cancell your membership. I know its ridicoulous but this is just them ripping off your money. So again you better think twice before you sign up with this gym.
