Total SCAM. I had to move from NY state and one thing I was going to do is to cancel their membership. In person you cant cancel it! I had to send them physical mail with cancellation request. Also even with that you will be paying for 2 months AFTER you requested to cancel your membership. I was Okay to pay it. 5 Months later I found $36 reported in my credit as derogatory balance!!! Thats Ridiculous! They failed to charge my card on file (which wasnt change and still active) and reported this to the Collection agency WITHOUT notifying me! Why on the Earth nobody called me from you? Now Im dealing with this record in my credit, just because their stupid policy and buggy system. Moreover, when I called them to figure this out, their RUDE staff (Christina) was blaming me for their fault and offered me to pay off my balance of $160+ (for what???!) because my membership was active and collected all maintenance fees and bla bla bla. Long story short - NEVER sign up to this gym, in Brooklyn there is plenty good choices who care about customers more and not trying to scam you with murky policy and rules. I filled complaints with NY consumer bureau, BBB and reviews all over the web. Hopefully you will have an impact from those as I did from you.

I have never hated a gym so much. They baited me with a certain class, then stopped offering the class. When I signed up they gave me certain terms to cancel and did not honor them. I had to get up from bed rest from a back injury because now they changed their policy and you can only quit via certified letter from a post office (which takes an hour at any annoying Brooklyn post office.) Their facilities are terrible, crowded, and most are broken! Now NYSC on the belt is the same $20 monthly rate and they are amazing with 2 floors, a basketball court, racket ball courts, all machines work, sauna, etc and if you do $30 a month you get classes which are awesome, so I hope this information shuts retro down because I have never hated a business as much as I hate this facility of lies. Oh and they charge me for an extra 2 months just to cancel it, and have twice yearly surges in the charges of an extra $60. Do not let them fool you- you will never be allowed to cancel and your grandchildren will still be paying your membership.

Hello to everyone. They are fraud, they dont do anything to improve their machines. Machines are old, gives noise, tvs broken, they dont have normal tv chanels. I told twice to their manager about that. Not clean. They are cheap. I tried to cancel twice, it didnt work out. They have 60 days notice to cancel. I did sign leasing agreement to new apartment, and moving to NJ. I called today in July to tell them that I am moving, and ask them to start notice, they didnt because I dont have prove, I told them I will send it in 2-3 weeks, after apartment management office sends me back. They are so fraud. they told me that I should call them in September when I move and send utility bill, which I will receive on October. And should pay then 2-3 month more when notice starts. In my case they dont want to understand or help me. They are fraud. Be careful when you do sign anything with them. Because I went to start membership I just fill out my data on their tablet, and sign, I didnt know that I signed contract.

I would rate this gym zero stars if I could. A friend recommended this gym and I printed out a guest pass to check it out because I was considering switching gyms (this location was listed on the guest pass drop down button on the RetroFitness website). Upon arriving, I was told that they no longer offered guest passes, due to people using the gym once and not signing up after (no way!). They said that I could pay $10 and change to use the gym for the day, and they would refund the money upon sign up. They also mentioned that plenty of other people had also come in, expecting use printed guest passes, proving that they dont care at all about their customers and are incapable of making a simple call to corporate to resolve the issue. Another employee rudely pointed to the sign for a daily pass, as if I wasnt able to understand it the first time. If this was the only gym in Brooklyn, I would rather go to park and do bodyweight exercises. Worst customer service I have experienced.

Ive never gone out of my way to write a bad/negative review but this was warranted. I physically went there to cancel my account and ALSO sent the letter to corporate to cancel the account to no avail. I still received their debt letters which then turned into debt letters from a debt collector (first credit services). I then called them and was advised because it has now been forwarded to them I MUST pay the balance of $125 if not it will be reported to the federal credit beurau as negligence along with extra interest and late payment fees being added per month..... as I just purchased a home I cannot afford my credit being messed up.....mind you I have not been to the gym in 2 years! Bottom line; i do not advise joining the gym. As I am not the first customer to have gone through this headache of a goose chase for a arm and leg to cancel hence the reviews .

Currently going to go to court because upon signing up, someone at this gym misinformed me of their contract and they wouldnt let me cancel literally 5 days later after i signed up. i kept calling them at first, telling them i refuse to pay, because its unfair they misinformed me. (They told me i had 30 days to cancel, some promotion they had going on). I changed my credit card so they wouldnt bill me. They started calling me countless times with an automated machine saying i owe them money, theyve sent letters, and now im getting phone calls from collection. DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM! look at all the negative reviews this gym is getting. more negative than positive. All these negative reviews talk about how they got SCAMMED. Not worth it. This particular gym franchise is the worst one out there right now.

The thing which wasnt friendly (rather pissed) that the reception told us that we can prepay for 3 months @ $40/month rate and if decides to continue, theyll give us the credit and charge @$20/month for a total 12 months period. So, additional $120 for reminder of 9 months. We obviously liked their friendly nature at that time and both of us joined. But after three months when we spoke to extend the deal, the same girl said NO as her "new manager" does not agree. It was same manager all along. So, just got screwed over. Possibly get the deal in writing so they dont deny later (you would just hope though.) It was alright gym (at least for my needs.) I run outside (not on treadmill) and then would go to retro for 25-30 mins exercise routine. The facilities are not so bad.

I am honestly surprised that there hasnt been a health code violation yet. When you drive by, the first thing you will notice is the fogged windows. It is because there is no circulation in there. None. When you walk in, you are hit with an overwhelming musky odor of people who refuse to wear deodorant crammed into an unvented gym. The CO2 levels are astronomical and you find yourself queasy. If they chose to ventilate the gym, it wouldnt be so bad. There is also a personal trainer there who wears spandex and loves to do deadlifts. It really throws your lift off looking at his ass and balls hanging out. Too many teeny boppers there as well, they are looking to hook up, not lift.
