Excellent food in a local, very family friendly, unassuming restaurant. When the excessively hyped 12 Bones was closed, we thought were were out of luck until we discovered Luellas. The place is not trendy nor does it have much atmosphere beyond a diner, but the food is excellent and you will quickly feel like a local. The smoked wings were incredible and I would probably just get an order of them for the whole meal next time. The special ranch dressing was also very good. The brisket sandwich was good, but a bit fatty and the baked beans were very unique and good, but very heavy. The coleslaw was a bit vingary to me. NC BBQ tends to be more watery and vingery, and certainly the one sauce on the table was, but the other was a delicious sweet bbq sauce. They have a pretty good craft and local beer selection which is a must in Asheville. They also have some unique small brand soft drinks that I was scared to try. If the atmosphere isnt as important, or you want to feel like a local, and just want great BBQ, this is the place.

I have been eating at Luellas since they were in south Asheville. Now being northside on Merrimon Ave. they are closer to my residence and nice for me! I have to say........the BBQ chile rubbed beef brisket should be their signature dish for sure! It is simply great and a dish everyone must try either in sandwich form or plate form. My favorite sides are the collard greens and vinegar slaw. Holy Moly.............so good it will make you smack your mama!!!! I have a feeling they have already outgrown their newest location. They really need to triple their restaurant size! This is one of the best kept secrets for us locals in Asheville. The ribs are alright and so is their BBQ pork. It is just something about their brisket that will make you an addict for sure! I do have one suggestion for them.............please make your squash casserole a regular vegetable item! Good food for sure! Go and see them and get you some brisket and then go smack your mama!

Have lived in Western North Carolina for over 5 years, passed by these folks countless times but either the timing wasnt right or they were packed w/ no parking avail. Of course this is a sign of a great place and it is small inside. FINALLY everything lined up and was able to stop in for an early lunch last week. While the portion was a little small for the sandwich the quality was top-notch and was absolutely the best chopped beef brisket I have had. Will definitely be back. I really liked their hush puppies and their sauces were great. I tended to stick with the extra hot sauces not on the table but to the side of the bar.. The folks were very nice and during lunchtime you order at the bar & they bring it to you. They are awesome. Give them a try you wont be disappointed. The only negative is would like to see Coke products vs R/C cola products but the taste of the food more than makes up for it.. Liked: Food, Sides, Service, Atmosphere

All of the staff was wonderful, friendly, and attentive. The food was pretty darn good. We had chopped pork, brisket, deviled eggs, side salad, wedge salad, cheese fries, the triple sampler (which had pork, chicken, and beef), tea, sodas and water. Personally, I prefer shredded pork, but this was OK. The brisket had an easily removable strip of fat along one side but was good besides that. Truly, the chicken on the triple sampler was the most moist and tasty. The bbq sauces especially the sweet, were delicious. The ranch dressing was good. The salads were chilled and tasty. The tea (half sweet -half unsweet) was delicious and light. The soda is Cheerwine brand. So RC Cola not Coke or Pepsi. We wish we had tried the ribs. But 8 of us could only eat so much. I almost forgot the BEST thing we ate was the hushpuppies! They were DELICIOUS! !

We are visiting the Hominy Valley, NC area for the week and wanted to try North Carolina BBQ. After researching BBQ restaurants on the internet, we decided on Luellas at 501 Merrimon Avenue, in Asheville. We were welcomed by our waitress, Abby, and shown to our table. We had a sampling of the brisket, ribs, pulled pork and the apple wood smoked turkey. Excellent!!! The baked sweet potato was baked to perfection served with butter and brown sugar. The four of us shared the Apple Pie w/Ginger crumble and ice cream. Again, delicious. Abby was very attentive, professional and polite. She was knowledgeable of the menu and made wonderful suggestions to us including the Cherrywine soft drink. Being from Florida we had never had an opportunity to try this very delicious Royal Crown product. We will definitely eat here on our next trip to Asheville.

Our server, Amanda, was great! The smoked wings appetizer and the smoked sausage was good..However, I am a beef brisket lover and this was one of the worst I have ever tried (sliced brisket) to eat!!!! Smoked meat does not need a burnt outside to have smoked flavor. Also, it was so dry that I couldnt eat it. Amanda brought out another batch and asked how it looked. It looked fine, but, was truly drier than the first attempt. Putting a splash of aus jus across it as it is sent out to a table does not make the meat moist. Needless to say, I only ate 3 bites of the awful brisket. My husband lines burnt stuff and thought that he would love it, but it was too dry for him even!!!! Cant say that we will be back. Its too bad, because the service was truly great. Extremely disappointed!!!!

Oh gosh.....didnt ruin my mothers day dinner but they tried. Started with a second pour of cider which they list as 10 oz. Maybe eight or 7...when my daughter went in to say something to the bartender, Steve L. He was a real snot...once she expressed her dismay at the pour he just walked away and started to wait on other people and left her standing there. Was it because she was complaining about the pour or because she is a noticeable GAY WOMAN.???? The food was cold...paid $ 10 for one slice of brisket cut up on Texas Toast. Yep...Texas toast..hahahaha. Mac and cheese was good but cold as the beef. What a disappointment...check was over $100...guess what...wont get me again...EVER....p.s...... service was excellent...poor girl. This was for the BILTMORE PARK Location.

Luellas cant compete with other area barbeque joints. The quality and flavor of the food simply cant hold a candle to Moes BBQ, 12 Bones, Webos, or Okie Dokies. Their sides are bland and uninspired, and the prices of the menu are several dollars more than their competition. My boyfriend went to Luellas for lunch once and ordered a sandwich that was the special of the day. The person who took his order was actually the manager. When he was given a different sandwich and told her that he had actually ordered the special of the day, the manager argued with him and basically told him that he had ordered the sandwich he had been given. This was some of the poorest customer service he has experienced in Asheville and we wont be going back.

Fantastic surprise. Id been looking for a good barbecue place since moving to Asheville and found Luellas through an online search. Unlike the two other joints Id tried, Luellas isnt trying to make barbecue arty. They simply have a great casual ambiance, a good house sauce and great barbecued pig to go with it. Prices seem reasonable for the amount of food and definitely for the quality. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Luellas not only uses local products but participates in local charity drives. I imagine the restaurants size could get crowded quickly at peak times, but I went between the lunch and dinner rushes and had a great experience.
