Ive been going to Orange Olive for several years, and up until my appointment this morning I had never had a negative experience. While I dont like that all of the stylists I like keep leaving and turnover seems to be high, my haircuts generally turn out well so I keep coming back. This morning I was scheduled with Brooke at 9:40. Ill admit, I was 8 min late for my appointment and called while I was on my way to let them know this. The girl I spoke with said "No problem Synthia, thank you for letting us know." And that was the end of it. When I got there we got started right away. Brooke was not finished cutting my hair until around 11:20 (an hour and 40 min after my appointment time). A girl who I assume was a manager or coordinator kept coming to check in on us because Brookes next appointment was now waiting. When I went to check out the girl at the front (who may be a manager, Im not sure) quickly stated that because my hair was so thick and the appointment took so long that in the future I would need to book longer appointment slots with them and that they now charge by the hour. She gave me a total of $75 for todays haircut before tip. I have several huge issues with this. I was expecting to pay my normal $50-$55 rate, which I was always under the impression was based on what service I was having done and by which stylist (how seasoned they were). No where on their website does it state that the rate is $55 PER HOUR. I have never been billed at a salon like this before. What really irritates me is that no one told me this BEFORE my appointment. When I called and said I was going to be late (not that my 8 minutes late would have taken my appointment over by 40 min - I believe this was due to the rate of speed of the stylist which is out of my control).. Someone should have said "Ok, thank you for letting us know. Just so that you are aware, if your appointment goes over the hour that weve allotted you will be charged more." That never happened. In addition, no one visited me in the chair at the hour mark and explained that if the appointment kept going on that I would be charged more. And lastly, as I mentioned first, I have been to this salon MANY MANY times before. I have never had a stylist go over an hour on my hair (granted it is thick) and charge me more. Its ridiculous. A stylus can take their time and as a result I am to shell out even more money? After debating with the woman up front she eventually gave me a total of $60, partly due to me having a birthday coupon coming up. Regardless, this will likely be my last visit to orange olive. By the way, the stylist was great. It was the service I received afterward that Im not happy about.

I initially was pleased with Orange Olive because I came in as a walk in, and was worked in right away (it was just before they opened) and got a quality haircut. I didnt like that I spent over a hundred dollars on recommended products that ended up not being good for my hair type, but that tends to happen to me with hair products, so I wasnt too worried about it. However, I was encouraged to book my appointment months ahead of time, only to find out about the strict cancellation policy they have. Other people have left reviews saying they were charged the full amount of the service for not cancelling in enough time. So I had to be sure to make that appointment! Then, morning of my appointment, about an hour before, THEY cancelled on me! So, I rescheduled. Then had to make sure I made the rescheduled appointment. Hit traffic going around the detour to Noda and get there 8 minutes after my scheduled appointment, and they call me in the parking lot saying I need to reschedule, because they have a busy day. Keep in mind I am having to take time out of my day because they had cancelled on me last minute! Also, having to reschedule 8 minutes into an appointment? How much time did they leave for me?? I work at a busy fast paced animal hospital and we see appointments that show up twenty even thirty minutes late, even for a routine annual. I liked when I was able to make it in OK, but its just too much inconvenience and scheduling drama for what it is

A few months ago I had my hair dyed by Brooke. We were to do a dark blonde to purple ombre style dye. She first bleached my hair and then died it "dark blonde" which turned out to be nearly black. My "purple ends" came out red and two different colors. She had run out of the purple she started with and mixed two colors for the rest of my hair. After 5 hours in the chair and no cut, I was extremely dissatisfied. When I expressed my concerns there was no accountability by the establishment or stylist. Instead, they blamed my hair for how all of the color took. Photos would do much better justice to the disaster my hair turned out to be. I would have been okay with everything if they had owned up to their mistake. I understand that things dont always go as planned, but they are in desperate need of better customer service. They offered to redo my hair for free. At that time my hair turned out OK. They had two stylists working on me at the same time and it took them 4 hours. While I was there for the second visit I waved hello to the stylist who initially dyed my hair and she ignored me. I understand she may have been embarrassed, but where is the professionalism in this place? I will not return. Last week, I had my hair dyed from purple to red and cut in 2 hours time at Hair Klaudt. That great experience truly shed light on how unacceptable my experience was at Orange Olive.

Ive been to Orange Olive Hair Gallery three times. The first time was a good experience. The stylist (Jessica) cut my hair how I wanted it. Then I went to get my eyebrows threaded. They did an awesome job with my eyebrows! Loved it. Third time I went to get my hair cut again. Oh boy. Brooke cut my hair. So many things went wrong. She asked me if I part my hair in the middle. My hair was parted on the side when I came in, so I was confused why she would ask this. I said, "sometimes. Not that often". Its like she didnt hear me because then she parts my hair in the middle and starts cutting it dry. She even cut my face frame (which turned into being incredibly uneven bangs) with the middle part. Also, if a client wants texture in their hair, dont whip out your thinning shears and chop their hair to pieces. It will make their hair uneven. You can point cut and get the same results, but the hair will be even. Ive been a hairstylist for 9 years so I know the things mentioned above could have been prevented. If Brooke had more training then I think she would be a great hairstylist.

I am not often motivated to write reviews of any kind, but my first visit to Orange Olive certainly warrants one. After years of trying to grow my hair out and never really making any new changes to my style, I decided that I wanted to go for a pixie cut again. This type of hairstyle definitely seemed to be one worth traveling to Charlotte for, and Orange Olive was exactly the place for it. Not only was Destyn the most patient stylist, but she did not seem one bit offended that I brought a picture for her to follow. She knew what she was doing but asked for my input the entire time, especially before any major cuts. I appreciate how much Orange Olive cares about your satisfaction with the experience. The sweet girl at the front desk even chased me out to my car to bring me the product that I had bought and then forgot! If you are like me, looking for that place that makes the whole experience positive from beginning to end, please check out Orange Olive. I am so happy that I did and look forward to my next visit :)
