I have been here twice and only came back the second time because my son was in dire need of a haircut. My first experience would have rated two stars not because of a bad haircut-- I wasnt expecting anything special-- but because my hairdresser seemed annoyed that I interrupted her lunch and had an animated conversation with her coworker seated in the barber chair next to me eating her lunch. My stylist would stop cutting my hair for long periods at a time to focus on the conversation, and did not give me the cut I asked for. Its the first time I didnt tip. // I came back because I live nearby and my son really needed a trim AND beacuse I figured I shouldnt judge the store based on a single experience, hoping wed get a different stylist. When we tried to enter the store at 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon, it was locked, despite the hours on the door stating closing time was 5:00. There were three employees inside; one giving a haircut and the other two cleaning up. They motioned me away but I stayed and pointed at the hours. One of them came to the door, opened it, and told me that they stopped taking haircuts at 4:15 and promptly closed and locked the door again. // I think this store is only still in business because of its good location. Im sure that there may be a good stylist in the mix, but my sense is that there is a pervasive culture of poor customer service and business practices, and that management needs to take heed.

My rating is for Lourdes. My first haircut there was by a different person and to be honest it was terrible. I was not consulted on what I wanted and it felt like he was just trying to get done as fast as possible. I went to Lourdes the next time and have been going to her for over a year now. She is easily the best and most professional stylist there. She takes her time so dont go if you are in a rush. She is such a nice woman and cares about her clients - she will go out of her way to make you happy. Lourdes is an absolute steal for the price of haircuts there, just call and make an appointment or else youll get handed off to another stylist.

Lourdes is awesome. This lady is meticulous and has a great eye for what will look good on the client. Above that, she really is aware of what you want because she is so intent on listening to your requests. Shes never in a rush, and treats everyone like theyre the only one in the room. I saw her for the first time a month ago, and today she remembered what I asked for last time and all about my family. My only hesitation in writing this review is that this is going to cause her schedule to get even more fulll!!

Echoing the sentiments of an earlier review, please watch out for the old black male hairdresser. He does not listen to your requests and tries to get the job done as quick as possible, leaving many patches in your hair. Both times I have had him cut my hair, he has completely ignored my requests to not cut the hair on the back of my head. When I approached him afterwards expressing my disappointment, he completely blew me off. He does NOT care about the customer and it clearly shows in his work.

Lourdes is worth calling ahead! I usually dont really care where I get my hair done, but Ive been going here for at least 3 years now after getting Lourdes. She takes her time and makes sure the job is done to perfection. I never really had any issues with the other people there, but Lourdes is by far my favorite. Just be sure to call ahead to see what the wait is like, otherwise you might end up sitting there for awhile. Well worth the wait either way, especially for such a good deal!

Oz is great! I dont know if the "old black hairdresser" people are talking about is Oz, but if it is, I must disagree with the current reviews. I have gone to him several times and he is consistently better than all four of the (more expensive) stylists I have gone to in the triangle area. I once was not 100% satisfied and I came back, requested he do a little more, and showed him a picture that was more along the lines of what I wanted. He happily obliged and fixed it.

I would highly recommend going to Famous Hair for a great haircut for a great price. I specifically recommend getting Lourdes to cut your hair. She really takes her time with your hair and makes sure you are 100% satisfied with it afterwards. Shes also super-friendly while cutting your hair, making sure you feel comfortable during each part of the cut. Overall a 5 star experience for the great price at Famous.

If you go there, you have to be careful when choosing the hairdresser, the ladies are mostly fine, but STAY AWAY from the OLD MAN (I forgot the name but is the only old guy there), he does not care about your hair, is just matter of finish it up ASAP and therefore he is very very sloppy, makes holes in your hair and does not care about symmetry, plus, is also a very moody guy.

Lourdes is amazing! I have had Lourdes cut my hair for 4 years now. She has never ever disappointed! She takes her time and communicates with her customers as to what specifically they want. She gives perfect hair cuts consistently and is always very friendly. She is someone I genuinely look forward to seeing every 3 weeks. I give her my highest recommendation!

LOURDES ALWAYS DELIVERS! Always request Lourdes - even if you have to wait (though I always call ahead and make an appointment). Lourdes takes her time - so tell her if you are in a hurry. She gives quality cuts - A STEAL OF A DEAL GIVEN THE PRICE. Ive been a loyal customer since 2005 - and now my 6 year son gets his cut here too. A GREAT DURHAM SECRET!

Im new to the area and Im trying to find a new stylist. My hair is shoulder length and wavy, not curly. I was disappointed with the lady I spoke with. She was very nasty and ride by saying Im paying for a stylist and my hair is curly so of course Id pay more. Well thanks but no thanks, Ill take my business someplace else.

A decent place to get a quick haircut. A mixed bag experience depending on who cuts your hair. Some make it an enjoyable time and cut well while others treat it as just a job/business and try to sell products. If youre looking for a conversational/friendly vibe, you might not find it at Famous Hair.

Famous Hair is the best place for Duke men to get a haircut. For only $14 (the best price Ive found in Durham) you get a high-quality cut. The stylists are friendly and helpful, and consistently make me look good. They shampoo your hair, too! Highly recommended.
