Had a chance to have food from this catering company this weekend. It was definitely below standard. While I realize the venue did not have a kitchen available to them, I would think a "professional" catering company would have a plan to keep food hot. There was a "french fry" bar. The sweet potato fries were cold & shriveled, the regular & waffle fries were cold as well. The best part was the chili & cheese for the fries which was warm. The rolls seemed stale, the salad was subpar. About a cup of a variety of lettuce on a plate with a drizzle of salad dressing--I think a bunny would have still been hungry. The food was tasteless & cold to lukewarm. The "grilled vegetables" were cold & even hard--was as if a char mark was placed on them & they were placed on a plate & left. The potatoes au gratin, were tasteless & some of the potatoes were even hard & not cooked--overall they were lukewarm. The sliced ham was just ham, nothing special. The sliced beef was inconsistent. Some was still mooing & other pieces were overcooked & the sauces served with them were nothing special. While I realize the food choices were that of the bride & groom, I would expect the catering company to be responsible for overall taste, presentation, quality & temperature of food. In all respects, this company missed the mark. The best food at the reception was the cake which was awesome. (Not sure who made the cake). Sorry but a definite disappointment in the food and would not recommend or use this company ever. The staff was friendly & attentive; but that does not make up for the food. Sorry :( The one star is for the friendly, attentive staff.

Mapleside Farms was beautiful separate in itself, however, DO NOT GET MARRIED THERE AS LONG AS THEY HAVE A CONTRACT WITH "A TASTE OF EXCELLENCE" catering!!! They are a SCAM! They charge you for fresh food even though its all preheated. they dont have set prices they just set up a proposal based off of an approximate! if you dont ask what the extra fees and service charges are u dont find out that they charge you for transportation of their food on top of the plates as an extra charge which at any other venue the plates included everything and what else is next? are we to pay the gas fee too?! REAL venues, instead of catering taking care of everything, have packages with set prices and tell you exactly where your money is going and are honest about the food being delivered. A Taste of Excellence was going to charge us for the plates which were 3 times the price at other venues and changed the price later on was originally told $85 but he told me $95 and when u actually add it up it comes to $120 a person in the proposal. If you go with this for your wedding READ EVERY DETAIL AND ASK QUESTIONS!!! we added up about $3,000 dollars in outrageous extra unnecessary fees which they sneakily shoved in the service charges! Good thing we asked what the service charges were for. not to mention if something happens at ur wedding they dont roll over at least some money u lose that day and have to save up all over again! A Taste of Excellence is a scam and my fiancé and I had this place as our dream place to have the wedding. too bad they lost thousands of dollars because of dishonesty. We were very disappointed.

disappointed -food allergies ignored It was very difficult getting pricing on a venue compared to all of the other vendors I contacted. We were open to a Saturday or Sunday wedding so we wanted pricing on both days. I had to contact Karen Levin several times to get pricing. We had 3 guests with food allergies so I made sure they were noted in our contract & in our seating chart that I gave to our planner Medeana Hobar. We were promised time & time again by Medeana that they would handle everything & not to worry. The day of the wedding none of A Taste Of Excellence staff was told what was going on. I had to personally make sure they had the correct food. Table 5 had two guests with allergies & both were served regular meals. Luckily since they were seated so close to our table I was able to tell the servers that they both had received the wrong meals. Then when the server returned she brought my grandmothers plain meal to our gluten free guest and by the time I saw it he had already started eating!! I waved down a server & she took his plate & asked me if she should give it to the other guest it was for & I demanded that she take it back because another guest had eaten off the plate. This could have been a life threatening situation if I wound not have intervened!!!! I felt like I could not enjoy my wedding because I was double checking your staff. The food was good but how do you miss ALL 3 guests with allergies? Also none of the salads had toasted almonds as promised. We have emailed 4 employees regarding this situation but we never received a response.

Very Unprofessional! I would not put the responsibility of my wedding in their hands! On a snowy Cleveland day a week ago we met the Chris Winter, Vice President, at Josaphat Arts Hall. Chris boasted over seven years of experience... I was shocked at what happened. My fiance arrived before me and the VP Chris sat in his jeep while my fiance tried to open all the doors around the church... the place was completely locked up. She was walking back to her car when VP Chris finally got out of his jeep. The VP Chris unlocked a back side door so when I arrived a few minutes later all of the front doors were still locked and I had to try every door in the snow until I got to the back side of the building. Unbelievable. Josaphat Arts Hall First they want $3000 just for the building not including food from 4pm - 11pm. Be ready to tell your guests to sober up early because your party is going to be cut short. The venue is not impressive it is what it is just a mediocre deteriorating church. There were race car tracks, toys, Wii videos games setup in the space that made it look like a daycare again, unprofessional. To top it all off we then followed the VP from E 33rd St. in Cleveland to Strongsville to see the Bella event center. When we got there 40 minutes later Chris when to open the door and he didnt have a key!!! The VP did not have a key to show the venue!! Then he had the nerve to ask if we wanted to reschedule for the next day. OMG! He didnt even start offering discounts for how unprofessional he was. It will put a "bad taste" in your mouth.

I requested information about A Taste of Excellence Catering online. No one ever responded to me, however a friend of mine knew Dawn, the owner, and gave her a call. To Dawns credit, she did have someone call me right away. This woman claimed she never received my email and was so sorry she didnt respond. We moved past that and talked about my budget, she said she certainly could work with that, and we should meet to see a venue. I was really excited! I took PTO time from work to meet her on a Friday afternoon. After seeing the venue she estimated that their lowest cost would be MORE THAN DOUBLE the budget we discussed over the phone. She said she would send me an email the next day with more information and menu choices. I still have yet to hear from her, I am guessing this is another email of hers that got lost... Overall it was a waste of my time, she knew my budget and had me take off time from work to meet with her anyway. A simple, "we are out of that price range" would have sufficed, but how much more rude to then not even send me the quote and information?? There are plenty of caterers in Northeast Ohio - choose one who actually cares about your time, business and wedding day.
