Updating my review below: The owner (Mikey) reached out by phone within an hour (wow!) of me leaving my original review to apologize and offer a full refund. While I dont plan to take him up on his refund offer, I do really appreciate it. Given the other reviews here, it seems my experience was an exception. I hope to give Brick & Mortar another try someday. ----------- I came here since my normal barber at a different shop was on vacation. I really wasnt all that impressed. I had a 4pm appointment, and I didnt get in the chair til 4:15. Not a huge deal but still not super timely. The barber I had wasnt really friendly at all. They told me that they had issues with the front desk and was running behind all day. So they were having a bad day. I get that, but it felt a bit awkward. Haircut took about 20 minutes and was fine. Far from the best Ive had, but it was passable. I do normally spend more time in the chair at my regular barber (who also charges less). The barber I had here didnt say "thanks" or anything like that as I left. No acknowledgement whatsoever than an "okay, all set" or something along those lines. Maybe not a requirement, but I appreciate when theres some attempt to be friendly. Overall, Im happily headed back to my regular barber after this experience.

Great shop, barbers know how to LISTEN to their clients and execute a perfect cut. So happy to have found a place that can successfully cut my husbands hair. When he did have a single bad experience from one of the barbers, the owner was quick to correct the issue. This was important to us because we FULLY support businesses that u understand the importance of customer service and satisfaction. Especially when talking about hair cuts. We will gladly give another barber a shot and not mark down this business

Brick and Mortar is a rock solid barber shop with a fantastic crew. Centrally located in inner SE PDX makes it a convenient stop. The vibe is laid back and it takes the best cues from other barber shops, like refreshing adult beverages, without trying too hard to be hip or trendy. Ive been going to Mikey for years and would recommend him to anyone looking for a good and friendly barber. If youre looking for a shop that respects the craft then you cant go wrong with Brick and Mortar.

Paid 30 dollars for 15 min of work when no barber was ever done with my hair in less than 30 ( i grow it out so i assume it takes a while to cut?). Left looking like I got a haircut 2 months ago instead of just now: the dude didnt bother with my sideburns or half my head. Most of it is patchy. Pointed out to him an area sticking out and he said i should part it and style it. Cool. He had to go on break and get some food, so i understand.

My wife and I were in town from Palm Springs for the week to celebrate our anniversary and I needed a serious beard clean up. I was lucky enough to get set up with Mateo who did an amazing job! He really takes his time and pays close attention to detail, it was the best beard trim Ive had to date! The shop is clean, stylish and inviting and you can even have a beer during your service!

After moving back to Portland in 2009, Mikey was the first one to cut my hair and Ive followed him to every shop hes worked at. Now that hes opened up his own, my roaming days are over. Plenty of Portlanders know the issues Modern Man Barbershop are facing. I assure you this is not the case. This shop was started by one of the OG Modern Man barbers and is staffed by Portlands best. The new shop is in a very accessible location and is very comfortable and clean. Get your hair cut by one of the Three Amigos: Mikey, Cory, and, Chase.

I recently had my hair cut here for the first time, it was an overall really positive experience. I was greeted by name as soon as I walked in, given a beverage, and was quickly taken back. I am very happy with the actual cut and my barber was funny and super easy to chat with. This will be my new barbershop from here on out.

This is how you run a business and cut hair in the 21st century. From easy reservations on the website with specific stylists to a welcoming atmosphere to the professional cuts, I was impressed with it all. The price is on the upper range for male cuts but with their professional system, this place deserves every penny.

The website is way clunky. Before I can select a date for an appointment, I must select a stylist. Thats probably great if I insist on seeing one and only one stylist. But if there are three who I think do a good job, but I just want a cut on Tuesday, then Im gonna need to spend some time clicking around.

Lindsay hooked me up with the sickest haircut!! I have very thin, straight, red hair and almost always my hair ends up looking sparse and choppy but she blended it perfectly with a sick fade and a stylish poof in front. Looks clean and dapper. Appreciated the "free" beer as well. Ask for Lindsay!

Co-owner Cory Lee is my guy, but everyone here will do right by you. They do nice clean fades and perfect, smooth straight razor shaves. A complimentary beverage is offered with every cut which makes every visit a pleasant break from the day. Book one or two days in advance if you can.
