This is the worst campus I have ever been a part of. PSU is only about making money, and the rec center lies about their "inclusive" policies- they have sexist gym wear policies that they enforce unequally, and they deny students gym access if they arent enrolled in summer classes, even if that student lives in severe poverty, simply because they cannot pay a $5 daily fee (it costs nothing to let one more student swim in the pool). Every time I go to the gym, I have to work hard to quell the oncoming panic attacks I will have, waiting for someone to question my gym attire- as a female who is genderqueer, the sign states explicitly that I must seek special approval from the dean if I do not want to wear a traditional female swimsuit. I cannot even enjoy the facilities because I spend the entire time on pins and needles every time a staff member looks at me. I live in poverty on less than $4,000 a year and I pay PSU $10,000 a year. I had to drop my summer classes due to bankruptcy, and even though I am a 4.0 student that has received awards from this institution, and even though I engage in volunteer research that benefits the university at no cost to them- I was turned away from the gym for a short swim today because I simply didnt have $5 to give them. PSU says theyre about inclusion, but they arent- they only include rich people. If youre poor, dont go to PSU. They will try to rob you of everything you have left, even if that means stealing your bike and cutting off $70 worth of locks while you were gone on a 2 week summer vacation (which is exactly what happened to my partner with only 2 weeks notice- this is a violation of tenant landlord law, which states that removal of property from a tenants domicile can only take place in an emergency or in the event of an eviction, which requires at least 30 days notice). Further, most of the workers on campus are completely classist and will follow you around and harass you if you look poor (including the campus police, who drive behind me at 2 miles per hour at night while I walk home, and they stop when I stop, giving me no choice to not be followed. These campus police have recently become armed by decree of the administration, which makes me fear for my life. Further, their legal contract that must be signed for volunteer work on campus sneaks in a clause that says you forfeit all rights to legal action in the event that a campus security officer wrongfully shoots you). I had to file an official discrimination complaint on the PSU bookstore after a vigilante staff decided to refuse to give me my change unless I listened to a lecture on how bad of a person I was first- they didnt like that I called out their discrimination when they asked me if I was "only going to buy something worth 20c" with my fifty dollar bill before they would tell me if theyd take it. Classist all around- it isnt for no reason that the staff threatened a walkout and strike last year. Avoid this university at all costs.

Decent gym if you happen to be on campus. The pool is big and awesome. Sadly, its missing a lot of things: - Equipment are lacking if you are into bodybuilding. Its missing a lot of machines/equipment that target serious lifters, even when you compare it to a traditional gym like 24 hour fitness - No Sauna or steam room?! Come on! - The lockers in the changing rooms are a joke. I cant even fit my backpack, let alone my helmet or any school stuff. So I have to work out and drag my stuff around the machines. - While bench pressing one day, an employee asked me to put sleeves on my barbell if I need to continue using the gym. This was the first time anyone has asked me to do this in my 16 years of lifting weights. Obviously he doesnt lift. Other than those couple things its not a bad gym for the average person. I like that you can charge your phone for free at the service desk while youre working out.

As campus gyms go, this one is pretty excellent. Even better, they have a ton of classes available to students and staff which is fantastic. Their outdoor program is also phenomenal. Knowledge staff that run really fantastic trips to the backcountry, and tons of gear for rent at prices that cant be beat if you want to do your own thing. The climbing gym is on the smaller side but with great routes and lots of options. Its also worth checking out the pool which is quite large.

This is one of the nicest gyms in Portland. The cardio machines have iPod plugins so you can track your workout with the Nike app, charge your iPod, play videos on the screens and many of the machines have TV. The pool is always kept at a perfect temperature for laps. The climbing center is lots of fun and they switch out the routes enough to always keep your climbs fun.

Great equipment, modern building, a full schedule of exercise classes, and a great price for alumni passes. I enjoy climbing, and doing yoga here. Sometimes the staff isnt wildly knowledgeable, but theres always someone there who can figure out how to get things done.

Disclaimer: I might be slightly biased because I work there. That being said, this is truly an incredible space for recreation, social connections, and various other activities (we have a little lounge for studying on the second floor).

Good gym with good facilities. There are a wide variety of different machines for your workout, and the pool is great too. The one downside is that the staff are student part-timers, so dont expect anybody to be super knowledgeable.

The best part of this gym is the view from the pool. Thats right the pool has a view!! The rest of the gym is nice too. Very clean lots of equipment. Sadly it will get really busy as more students use it, but for now its great.

is it the student recreation center? or just fitness? Idk, those staff provide the fewer safety at there. you dont need to worry whether you would get hurt or trouble, you have to get!

Overcrowded, if Im going to be forced to pay for this gym I shouldnt have to wait around for squat racks. Kind of scummy way for psu to make money.
