Please read this review pay attention to names and formulate your own opinion. Do not let them bully you or intimidate you into signing up for a year membership. This was my experience verbatim. There are 4 other gyms within 2 miles that offer more with less cost and attitude Hello, Sorry to write this but you should know the way your employees are treating potential customers. On Monday 11/16 i came down to the gym on suggestion of a friend who recently joined. He stated they have 3 day passes to try out the gym. I accompanied him to the Portland location where i checked in while he got ready. After going over possible membership possibilities the girl showed me around and asked me if i wanted to join then. My reply was that I would like to try it out (i was debating the lack of sauna vs no wait for equipment) her reply was that "it didnt sound like it was for me". I met my friend at the Cardio section and proceeded to work out for around 2 hours. To sore for my friend to work out 3 consecutive days we returned Wednesday 11/18. After working out for say 40 minutes "Phil" approached us which i was happy to see as we did 2 back exercises and were looking for a suggestion on a third. He asked "How do you like the Gym" ME: "its pretty nice" Him: "Are you ready to sign up?" ME "Im going to check out my friends gym on Alberta" before i could get it out He said "YOURE WEAK!!I" ME: "Excuse me? Well I guess i wont be signing up." HIM "One of my girls said you were rude to her so thats what Im doing" ME "What did i say" Him " I dont know i wasnt there" HIM "How many days have you been here?" ME "This is my Second" HIM "Well I guess it will be youre last" That was the extent of our conversation i suggest you pull the video tape from around 2pm. This is inexcusable for a few reasons. You Do Not THREATEN customers- Hes calling me out in the middle of the gym with other members working out suggesting Im trying to steal a day at the gym. REALLY? His office was 8ft from my location, would have been very easy to call me in and discuss anything. After i was apparently rude to someone i worked out for 2+ hours with no mention of anything. I dont know what the procedure is for addressing customers but if this is protocol its no wonder you gym is empty. I sat down and had another conversation with Phil and Narnia?- i can elaborate on the phone or by mail later this has taken enough of my time today. If you are seriously considering expanding you may want to hire a Sales MANAGER (?) who actually wants people to sign up. Ever wonder why there is no wait?) My Friend who brought me in would like to cancel his membership. I nor my two other friends will not be joining nor will anyone we know. I have a weekly radio show and i cant wait to explain how you have made this good. I understand The owner can not do all positions but he can hire those who have the same values and judgement. Im sure there is no shortage of Personal Trainers in this economy and to attach either sales or manager to his title is a disgrace to your organization. On a good note, the big personal trainer Weds @ 2 was intelligent, friendly, and knowledgeable.

My husband and I joined this gym a little over a month ago. Before doing so we researched gyms in the area, read reviews and even worked out at another gym. We went in fully expecting not to like this place, We had read the reviews about the sketchy pricing, macho atmosphere, and sales pressure. We decided to visit anyway as there were some positive reviews and the location is great. We did not experience any pushy sales tactics. Upon our first visit to the gym we were given an informative tour, told the about membership options and left alone to work out. It was made clear that we did not have to decide right away and that we could use our 3-day pass and decide when we felt ready. When we did sign up the pricing was exactly as promised and seemed quite clear and reasonable to me. After signing up we went through our complimentary training sessions, while they did try to "sell" us on personal training I didnt feel that it was a hard sell. We didnt buy any further personal training packages and didnt feel uncomfortable saying no. Ive read reviews stating that there are no women working out in this gym and that the decor is very macho and made other women feel uncomfortable. Every time Ive been there the women have outnumbered the men. The decor is red, black, and white and there are a lot of motivational posters and positive customer feedback posters. I didnt find it overwhelming or macho. Overall this is a great gym. The staff have all been nice and very helpful. The 24 hour access is very convenient and the location is great. If I could change one thing it would be to add some more open floor space to do combined cardio and resistance workouts. The largest area available with free floor space is where some classes are held so its not always available.

Decent gym with a pushy membership gatekeeper named Phil. Its open 24 hours, offers a good selection of classes, and has decent equipment. That said, the jerk you have to deal with in order to become a member of this gym is a deal-breaker. I called in because they advertise a 3 day trial pass on their website. I said I was interested in that, and wanted to go to a class the next day to get started. I was told to go ahead and come to the class, and then Phil would give me a call when he got in to talk about making the trial membership official, and then wed discuss the various long term membership options. The class was nice. It was an early morning spin class. The instructor had a good attitude, made the work out pleasant. Then I received a call from Phil. Even though I had called the day before to make sure it was ok, he told me I was not eligible for the 3-day trial membership because I had attended a class for free. WTF? I had only attended that class under the pretext that it would be the first day of my 3-day trial. Anyway, that didnt kill it for me right away, as I was genuinely interested in this gym. So we talked schedules, and because he only works from noon-7, and I work during the day and am not available during evenings, we couldnt meet up in person to discuss memberships. He was EXTREMELY reluctant to tell me about the memberships over the phone because they "were very complex, and difficult to understand." Theyre not btw. One membership is ~$60, but theres no commitment or up front fees, the other is cheaper, but you have to sign a contract. Its actually pretty straight forward. The more we talked, the pushier Phil became, and it became very unpleasant. Basically, Phils bullishness pretty much squandered any desire I had to sign up for a membership.

I am rarely anything but a vigilant consumer, but I was not in the case of ME Fitness Center and I paid for it. I hate contracts period--cell phone contracts and gym contracts are the worst. However, this gym wasnt crowded and has decent equipment and classes so I joined thinking they were like 24 hour fitness where you pay the first and the last months dues and you can cancel anytime. Not so here--they have a month-to-month contract option, a 3 month contract option and a 12 month contract option. Since I work way too much and travel a lot, I called to join basically for the summer, when I travel less. I was asked to come in to be "counseled" about the paperwork--I should have done this! But, Im too busy for that and I resent the idea that you have to "come in" for any paperwork these days. Are we not living in a digital age? I asked the guy to just have the paperwork ready and next time I was in I would sign. He did--and he took it upon himself to sign me up for a 12 month contract. Why he never told me about the other two options? Well, Im sure you can figure that one out. I signed without realizing I was entering a 12 month deal that I was told by their corporate office via form letter I "may not" cancel. Long story short and after derisive, condescension from the staff at this hell-hole I was "allowed" out of the contract for an extortive fee of $99.00. Buyer beware. Dont make the same mistake I did.
