I recently moved to the area and the LA Fitness in Abington is now right around the corner. They must already have all the customers they need. Stopped in yesterday (a weekday) at 2:30p to join and get a swim. The receptionist was nice and told me someone would be right with me. Over in the sales area there is one person, and he is watching Youtube videos or something on his smart phone. We make eye contact on many occasions but he cant be bothered. While its possible he was on break, the appearance to customers is still poor when theyre ignored. In the kids area with glass doors behind me I see three or four people talking and laughing. I make eye contact many times and show that Im waiting. They couldnt be bothered. After 20 minutes I left. Got a phone call five minutes later telling me that they were having a meeting. So obviously they knew I was waiting and saw me leave and felt that was the way to treat a prospective member. I went back this morning at 7:30am to try again. I was met promptly this time by the sales associate (Mark) who left me the voice message yesterday. He was nice enough and took me through the facility and gave me the hours and rules information. I told him from the outset that my sole interest was to use the pool for swimming laps. I noticed that there were two, and sometimes three, people per lane. Rush hour. I get it. So we head back to his desk. "So, would you like to join?" I told him that since this the time Id normally be swimming that Id like to see how long it takes today to get a lane before making a decision. He told me that my choices were to get a membership first or pay $15 for the day as a guest, which would be applied to membership should I choose to join. I was surprised. It has been the policy of every gym Ive ever visited to give a free workout or two to prospective members to see how they like the facility. He told me he has been working in gyms for 15 years and has never once heard of such a thing. He told me "we are a for-profit business, my man". Really? Thanks for the business lesson. I explained that if was unable to get a lane for a swim that Id not be joining and would have spent $15 just to hang out and wait for a lane. He had no response and asked again if Id like to join. I told him it seemed we were at an impasse and that I really just wanted to see if I could get a lane in a reasonable amount of time before joining and was not willing to pay to find out. He offered no solutions. I left. He didnt seem to care. When I got home my wife pointed out to me that its stated right on their web site that prospective members get a three-day free guest pass. Did their salesman not know this? Was he just not that interested in getting a new member? I went there with money in hand looking to join. Twice. And was treated with indifference and ineptitude. Guess Ill have to keep looking for a place that wants the business.

The information that the staff provided is misleading and conflicts. I just went to this location the first time as the guest. My friend is the gym member and she is able to bring me in for free. Before going there, she told me that I cant bring my husband since the the staff there told her that they dont offer one time pass and she only can bring one guest in. I am fine with that. We went there. The front desk asked us to show the companion pass. My friend just joined the gym and during the on boarding process, no one told her about this companion pass. The consultant there just told us that she can bring guest in for free. So we went to talk to the consultant, she had bad attitude and told us that since we dont have the companion pass, there is nothing she can help us unless I become gym member there or pay $15 to get in. Well, they told my friend before that they dont offer one time pass. Then the consultant was trying to convince me to become the member. During that time, my friend went online and registered me the companion pass. But the consultant there told us that it takes hours for me to receive the pass and she cant help any more. Usually, the most gym offers the new people the first try for free. But apparently, the staff there cant help me with that. Then I told her that I will just go in the watch my friend to play bedminton, I am not going to use any equipment or the court. She told me to pay $15 to get in to watch my friend playing. This is ridiculous! I am not going to become its member for sure.

Today I had a disturbing experience at the Abington LA Fitness. While in the women’s bathroom, I noticed a large wad of toilet paper on the floor with red stuff on it. At first I thought it was lipstick and then realized it was blood. Someone deliberately threw the paper on the floor. Filthy…… Unsanitary…… HOW disgusting!! Prior to leaving the restroom, I washed my hands and went to throw the towel in the trash. On the very top of the full trash basket was a white towel with lots of blood. I have seen filthy bathrooms before, but that was out and out NASTY. And also a health hazard!! I know that the gym staff wouldn’t purposely do that. The problem is some of the nasty, vulgar members. Cleanliness folks!! You’re not at home where I would hope that you have more respect for yourself and others! People shouldn’t have to be exposed to your lack of home training and lady cleanliness. AND IT IS NOT A JOKE!! We want the gym staff to maintain a clean and sanitary environment. Everybody has a responsibility of cleanliness for themselves and RESPECT and COURTEOUSNESS towards others. We all pay for a safe and clean environment.

Been a member for about 3 years and before that I was a member of the one in Andorra. They have a good selection of machines and weights. I usually use the machines and it annoys me that almost all member dont wipe down machines. Runners do wipe down the treadmills but the weight machines never get wiped down after use. I never have a problem getting on a treadmill where at Andorra there was always a wait. They are pretty quick to repair treadmills too. Basketball seems a little dangerous. Ive seen 2 fights break out so dont expect to be able to play unless you go in the morning. The main problem with the place is that it is always too warm in the building. Ive mentioned it to the manager before but they said it is an engineering problem and they cant bring down the temperature. Locker rooms and bathrooms are usually clean as well. All in all its Okay.
