Ive been a member here since the day it opened. Its a very nice facility and the staff is very nice. I usually go there on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesday. After my swim, Ill shoot over to the Haverford Library; which is just five minutes away. The library is open until 9 oclock on those three nights. My main issue is this. The warm water pool is just way too overscheduled! Swimming lessons for the kids. Exercise classes. Very limited open swim periods. During the last school year, it was used for the homeschool kids on Monday afternoon. And during the summer, it is like a madhouse with all of these kids there for the summer camp. Therefore, I have to use the lap pool to do my laps and excercises, and the water is just way too cold. On Friday afternoons after 4 oclock, there are a lot of private swimming lesson going on; leaving me very little room to do my laps and exercises. The other issue is this. I have seen women bring their kids into the ladies locker room. Whenever I see this, I politely tell them that they dont allow children under 18 in there. In fact, this one day when I was getting ready to leave after my swim, there were three teenage girls in there. I dont mean to be nosy, but thats their rule. There are five locker rooms in there. There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever as to why they need to use a locker room that theyre not allowed to use! And besides, I dont want any kids seeing me get dressed and undressed. I also report it to staff as well. I wish that they would just simply ease the overcrowding in the warm water pool. I really would appreciate it. Thank you.

The facilities are modern and, for the most part, well maintained. The locker rooms are usually clean (I have never used the showers), and theres something for every fitness levels in terms of machines. They offer a wide variety of group fitness classes, but they do not offer them as frequently as the Y we attended before this one (example, Body Combat is offered only a few times a week at Haverford and a few times a day at Rocky Run). Y Care also closes earlier at this location. My biggest complaint with this facility lies with the staff. The majority of the employees Ive encountered are rude, miserable, and surly. A manager in Y Care is very short with us and always seems to be irritated. The line to drop off is so long weve waited for over 30 minutes, which is no easy feat with three impatient children wanting to play. The majority of the staff in Y Care are friendly, welcoming people. However, it takes one negative employee to make me second guess my decision to leave my children there during my workout. Their group fitness instructors seem to be knowledgeable in their respective areas, and I always get a good workout. There is one particular male instructor who, I feel, goes out of his way to make people feel small. Not beneficial to people doing their best to work on themselves. If we had never attended Rocky Run, this facility would have put me off of the Y altogether. Since this is much closer to our new home, we will contribute to exercise here. However, if you are able, I would definitely recommend Rocky Run, a hundred times over.

We are members. The building itself is very nice but, oddly, for a community center it does not include a community bulletin board or member lending library. Our main criticism, however, is that there are way too many members for its size. It is total madhouse at times! Going there is often a stressful experience because of the difficulty in parking and using the facilities. Stated schedules are often changed at will with little or no advance notification. The pool is usually crowded and its use is poorly organized---large parts of the lap pool go unused to accommodate small group activities leaving lap swimmers waiting in the wings! The large workout gym is likewise often crowded and closely spaced equipment only exacerbates the traffic flow. Unfortunately, for (us) swimmers it is the only game in town ever since the JCC had to close its indoor pool. On the plus side, the staff is usually pleasant and helpful though not always aware of the Ys daily activities. In our opinion, the Y should add another pool, workout facility, and provide additional parking areas because the overcrowding will only get worse over time. Or, perhaps the Ardmore YMCA could/should be reopened to help alleviate the problem. Currently, our advice would be to go elsewhere, if you can, unless you happen to like crowds!

The facilities are very modern and well equipped. However, my review is mainly on use of the pool area. - People are allowed in the pool area with their street shoes. This is unhygienic. - Even more alarming, there’s a culture tolerating people in full gym clothing (including training shows) entering the sauna. Even though that is a clear violation of the sauna rules. When I brought this to the attention of staff they shrugged it off and responded that they cannot force people out of the sauna. - On two occasions, I witnessed people in full gym clothing (including, yes, shoes) enter the Jacuzzi! - If you do lap swimming on weekends, you’ll find very limited options because of the swimming lessons and aqua acrobatic activities (they also play their music deafening loud). - Finally, the options are limited for leisure activities for kid. They are very strict about accessing the pool and slides. Kids have to pass a swimming test in order to get qualified. And if not, they will have to wear a life vest and be accompanied by parents in the pool. I understand this’s a safety issue, but it goes too far. On top of that, parking is always an issue.

Unsafe facility. I have lifted weights here for a couple years with no issues, and have recommended this place to many people. However, yesterday I saw a staff member yell at a man who just squatted heavy weight then same staff member a few minutes later actually pushed down on one side of loaded barbell I was lifting, which put me at extremely high risk for injury. I had my headphones in, I put the weight down and took the headphones out, the staff member said something about my hands looked like they had chalk on them. I was minding my own business, not bothering anyone, and a staff member thought it was a good idea to potentially injure me because he didnt like the way my hands looked. This staff member actually recommended I use a certain brand of chalk a couple weeks ago.

My family and I love this place. The staff are very friendly and the facilities are clean. (This is something you dont find with some of the other Ys or public gyms, and believe me I have had my share as a visitor at some of those places both in and out of the state/country). Yes I do agree parking can be a challenge however we do eventually find a parking place. I participate in the water exercise classes and have never had an issue with the music being too loud if anything it often is not working. It would be helpful if all of the instructors had the mouth piece so that you may hear the instructor provide step by step instructions for the class. The gym I do agree can get very crowded, however the staff are very accommodating and that in itself is worth a million.
