For many months, my wife and I had been looking at furniture to replace our 25 year old kitchen table and chairs. We wanted furniture that was extremely well built with simple lines that we could pass along to our children. We settled on a shaker design but not a craftsman. After numerous visits to local furniture stores (western suburbs of Philadelphia) we could not find the quality we were looking for, so we turned to the web. A quick search and we discovered The Shaker Shoppe in Lititz, PA. After a review of their website, we planned a day trip to beautiful Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and The Shaker Shoppe. Upon arrival we met Sue and Tom Rossman, the proprietors of the shop. Tom spent a copious amount of time taking us through his workshop explaining how he makes the furniture, what types of woods he uses and the various types of finishes. We told Tom what we were looking for and we soon settled on a hand-planned, tiger maple extension table that can seat six to twelve people. The dimensions that we settled on are exactly what we needed to fit our kitchen. We also asked Tom to build us six Bowback Windsor chairs. Upon returning home, we decided to ask Tom to build us several stools for our kitchen island. A couple of quick emails later with Tom, we settled on a design and dimensions for the stools so they fit perfectly under the overhang of our kitchen island. Two months later (exactly the timeframe Tom promised) all pieces were delivered to our home. The furniture is everything we expected. The craftsmanship is excellent, the fit and finish is superb. We look forward to working with Tom on our next project.

WOW....WOW.....WOW.....! My husband and I grew weary of looking at all the "sale-priced" furniture that we had seen advertised on TV, even while it is advertised as being "sale-priced," it still seemed pretty expensive to us. In addition, much of it seemed flimsy and felt like it was plastic. Then we found The Shaker Shoppe, quite by accident on a Sunday drive! They were closed when we found them, but after looking in the windows we made fast plans for a return trip. The furniture that they have on display is esquisite, and they make it right there! No cheap, foreign imports! YEAH! It seemed as though many of the pieces were sale priced, we were lucky enough to find what we were looking for on the sales floor and got a great deal. The salesman, who I think was the owner, even discounted a piece that we needed to special order to complete the set we put together. YEAH AGAIN! We feel great supporting this business and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality, solid wood furniture. The Shaker Shoppe is tucked away and a little hard to find, but it is well worth the drive. When we left we asked about a good spot to get lunch, the salesperson told us about a spot he liked and even drew us a map to get there that took us over 2 COVERED BRIDGES on the way there! I said it before but WOW....WOW..again! I wish every shopping experience was as good as this one. Karen B.

In a desire to simplify our surroundings and add aesthetically pleasing furniture to our home, we started to search for a local craftsman who also cared about the details. Our quest led us to The Shaker Shoppe in Lititz. After traveling back-country roads, you will be enticed by the sweet aroma of wood waffling through the showroom as your senses transport you back in time. You will soon be greeted by very genuine people who love what they do, and enjoy making any idea you might have for your home a tangible one. Regardless of your taste in furniture, you’ll find that beautiful wood looks great in any setting. My husband and I first purchased a dining room table made out of cherry. It’s still hard to believe that something so beautiful can be so easy to care for. The finish allows you the freedom to forgo tablecloths so you can relax and enjoy the natural beauty of hand-planed planks. We were so pleased with our experience at the Shaker Shoppe that we also decided to have a custom table made to display wooden bowls. We needed a table that could extend to twelve feet. Tom and Sue listened, designed, and succeeded in building a table that is already part of a dream coming true. Even if you’re not in need of a table, the people and showroom are well worth your time. There are many other treasures to be discovered, and you might be surprised how beautifully crafted wood can inspire you.

We purchased a low post bed and a dresser from the Shaker Shoppe. Both our experience purchasing the furniture and the furniture itself has been amazing. To begin with the experience. We live in Chicago and we stop by Shaker Shoppe whenever we visit our family out east. We had seen some examples of the pieces we were interested in buying but not the actual pieces themselves. Everyone was vary patient with us as we went back and forth about finishes over the phone and when we finally settled on a Finnish they were super quick in delivering the furniture. The furniture itself arrived in crates and perfect condition. The bed needed to be assembled and thanks to Instructions Tom sent us, it was easy and together within 20 minutes. The furniture itself is beautiful. I work a lot on heritage properties and can say that these are museum quality pieces. Bedroom furniture is especially telling as they are pieces we use on a daily basis. After 6 months of repeated use of drawers (including over-stuffing drawers), the furniture still is in perfect shape. I would say if you can, definitely take advantage of their sales as you will get furniture that is beautiful and timeless. Us we are hooked and hope to continue to populate our house with this fine furniture. Look out dining room here we come.

My wife and I ordered a custom hutch and huntboard for our living room. Tom and his team worked closely with us through all aspects of the process. This included showing us samples in his show room, touring the workshop floor, selecting appropriate cherry wood, several rounds of back and forth drawings and revisions, email and photo updates along the way during construction and finally hand delivery by the craftsman who built them. Their attention to detail and commitment to quality was unrivaled. They actually hand turned the knobs and pulls so that they more closely matched the design. I was also pleasantly pleased by the fact that even the secondary wood in our pieces were cherry. Maybe a few days after delivery we noticed a very small spot on the huntboard where the finish had formed a small drip. When we brought this to Toms attention he apologized profusely and made an appointment to drive out to our house to repair the minor blemish personally. It is now impossible to find the spot where the issue existed. I regularly recommend to friends that they should contact Tom with all of their furniture needs. For a cost roughly comparable to what one might spend for factory produced furniture, why not have Tom hand build an heirloom.
