4/23/17 -I went in to get a wash and trim cut. My assigned stylist was Geneva. She approached me without introducing herself and said "are you here for a trim" and I replied yes. She then proceeded to talk about how tired she was to her cohorts as she looked for a shampoo assistant. I got the impression that she did not feel like doing my hair. I have long and very thick hair. She then takes me to the shampoo chair and I introduced myself to her and confirmed her name, because she never introduced herself. Geneva then began to tug and pull at my hair as she washed and combed it. I could tell that she lacked care and patience for natural hair. After the wash she placed me under the drier with conditioner. At the completion of this I was taken to the shampoo room and she then said that this was a three man job and asked for two shampoo assistants to help to detangle my hair. I was surprised because I had freshly washed, conditioned, and detangled my hair. Various off color remarks and questions were made in regards to my hair. At this moment I suggested that I could help to comb my hair because I know my hair. At this moment I questioned to myself, isnt this a natural hair care salon? I was made to feel like I was in a mainstream hair salon. Thank God for the shampoo assistant Lay who actually had the temperament to deal with my hair. My stylist left and allowed Lay to tend to my hair which was an improvement from Geneva. I asked if this was deterring from other clients and was told that it was a slow day. Once the detangling process was complete, I got to the stylists chair and Geneva informed me that I would be charged $50 for my trim today rather than the $20 that I would typically pay for a trim. I questioned this and was told to discuss it with the receptionist at the front desk named Lynette. She than said that I had to pay $50 dollars because it took two hours to detangle my hair and stated that my hair was shrunken and matted, all of which were false statements. Lynette continued to insult me in front of all of the clientele and stated that my stylist should be compensated for her time. My response to her was that Geneva, the stylist should have communicated this at the initiation of services to allow me to decide if I would be okay with paying this inflated fee. I then stated that her stylist did not do anything and had left the shampoo assistant to deal with my hair. Lynette then stated that Geneva had to stop because she has back problems. This fell upon deaf ears because as a nurse I cannot just decide to stop doing my job when my back starts to hurt. The incompetent stylist who did more talking than work, interjected to say to just pay $20 for having my hair detangled. I refused because those were not the services requested and I reiterated the fact that I was willing to detangle my hair myself. I have been coming to this establishment for quite some time and never has it taken so long to detangle my hair. Frankly it reflects poorly on this establishment if it doesnt have the product and skilled technicians to quickly and efficiently detangle natural hair. It takes me no longer than 20 to 30 minutes to detangle my hair on a bad day. I then offered $10 to cover detangling, despite my better judgment and Lynette then said that I could keep my $10. I then left out of Duafe with a feelings of disgust, rage, embarrassment, and dissatisfaction. Oh but wait, this horrific experience was not done yet. Lynette (receptionist) followed me outside to further berate me and I felt accosted. I quickly ended our argument before it could escalate further. Despite my being a loyal customer to Duafe, I will not return. I have never seen such a display of disrespect and unprofessionalism in a place of business. The tides seem to have changed but in a bad way.

Update- Reply to owner 4/24/17:Thanks for your response. The client and staff members are not being honest in regards to what took place at the time of service. I’m not surprised by your insensitive response as a I have read several of your negative responses on this platform to other outraged customers. I never told any of your staff members that I never had time to take care of my hair. Thats just ridiculous! I merely stated that I had not had a trim for quite sometime but never did I say that I did not have time to take care of my own hair. One of your shampoo assistants commented that I had long thick hair when I came in for my visit. I simply was there for a trim and did not receive the services that I requested. If this establishment claims to deal with natural hair then there should have never been the type of discord that I endured at your establishment, as a customer. Geneva and Lynette were rude and unprofessional. I understand that staff members have personal lives, yet it is simply inappropriate and unprofessional to voice personal problems in front of clients. I will also reiterate that I was told that Geneva did not have any clients during my time of service. A professional establishment that deals with real natural hair should be equipped to handle the natural hair that many African Americans have. Instead, I heard a lot of excuses at the time of service and in the tone of your inappropriate response. As a professional and the owner I am repulsed that you replied that I stiffed you. That is an insult to my character and an unfair account of the real facts that actually took place on that day "alternative facts". As an African American I love to support African -American businesses, but some of us have to do better. I was talked to in a bullying manner with the intentions of making me feel inferior about my hair and it was done in front of customers. It was aggressive and I was followed outside in a threatening manner. I actually didn’t feel safe. So I expected your response as the owner to be a little more apologetic instead of stating false accusations. This is unacceptable. I asked for a service that costs $20 dollars and when it was all over, I was billed to pay 50 dollars without even receiving the service. Your staff should have assessed this cost prior to service and they should have communicated this in the beginning.Last time I checked, customers only pay what he or she asks for and receives. I didn’t receive the service so I did not pay the fee. Thanks but no thanks :(

Im so disappointed in writing this review because I thought that I finally found a salon that was experted in natural hair but i just left wanting to cry. My appointment for ONLY a wash and go and trim was scheduled for yesterday(8/25) at 11:30 to where I was late arriving at 11:45 leading me to think that Id either be turned away or rescheduled but when I came in I was taken after 5 minutes. The girl shampooing my hair did great detangling my hair which wasnt the issue. The Problem came when I went to get it styled, the stylist I had named Michelle was pointing out to an intern how much heat damage I had and stressed how badly she wanted to cut it yet couldnt because as a client it wasnt what I asked for. But then proceeded to put a rod set that I did not ask for in my hair because it "wouldnt curl because of the damage". While putting the rod set that I did not want, someone yelled they were surprised she was doing curls given she normally does braids which made me even more nervous being my first time here. Then continued with how different and well done a wash and go there would be in comparison to ones Ive done at home to imply how much Id love the difference. Then I was placed under a drying for about 45 minutes which at this point its 3:00. Then was taken back out by another stylist named Kat and told my hair was too wet and placed back under with extra hot air originally timed for another hour which made no sense to me since my hair is "excessively heat damaged". The dryer got so hot I had to lift it every now and then for cool air flow and nobody stopped over to lower it so I had to turn the timer and hear level down myself...After being taken back out and the rods taken out my hair looked awful. It was large afro that looked almost like a wig and brought me to tears when I left. My hair today looks terrible after trying to fix it and my bill that originally should have been between $50-60 with a style Id be content with that ran up to about $85 with a terrible style and a service I didnt even ask for and winding up not leaving the store until 4:45 for what was only supposed to be a wash and go and a trim. To be honest the amount I spent really couldve been spent less and better elsewhere or done myself. The only reason Im even giving 2 starts is because the shampoo girl was very thorough and the store was clean. This was the worst experience Ive ever had in a salon leaving me crying for wasting that much money.
