I called Pep Boys to make sure research some tires that I needed for my car. While the car was there I was also going to have a full oil change and inspection done to the vehicle. I was satisfied with the answers I received so I scheduled my car to have the oil change, inspection, and all four tires replaced. 16 hours later, I am informed that the they only have ONE tire in the entire building that will fit my car and instead of the bill being $378 it will be $800. Also, if you want the buy three get one free deal they have running you have to purchase the $56. road hazard policy on the tire so technically you arent getting ANY of them for free. When I told them to just forget the tires, just do the oil change and the inspection I find out that an oil change is $39.99...WHAT???? I can go across the street to Jiffy Lube for 19.00. LOTS AND LOTS OF DECEPTION going on here, and highway robbery to boot. I will NEVER take another vehicle to Pep Boys for anything and I recommend that you dont either!!!!! Addendum, I just called there and asked for the same tire I had asked for yesterday and Ivan told me they had them in stock for $432 total installed....HMMMMMM really ??? Because Frank told me you didnt have them just an hour ago and you only had the $800 tires???? BUYER BEWARE

I was convinced to buy really expensive tires ( $150+ per tire - Falkien PT 722 ) by their service technician named Dustin Krout. This company is a scam. Less than two years, and the tires are total garbage. They slip in rain and hydroplane on the highway. I almost got into an accident because they slipped as I was pulling out to turn. I was told I have a 60.000 mile warranty on these tires, which would be prorated up to the mileage. Which was a LIE. The "assistant service manager" Jim and someone else proceeded to tell me too bad, its only tread wear that is covered for 60.000 miles. So unless the tires are bald they wont do anything for it. Plus I paid for their "performance brake pads and rust resistant rotors" and they rusted and the brakes grind horribly. This company is scam, and has caused nothing but problems for my vehicle with their cheap pathetic parts. After paying over ~$1300 for these "services" and "parts" avoid them, their technicians are unintelligent, and the company scams. Not to mention, previously dealing with this company and their associates using negative slurs towards LBGT, around customers which is what my previous review was about. Avoid them, use autozone or a local shop, this company sells cheap parts and rips people off on labor.

While visiting family in York, PA for Christmas our rental car had a flat tire. It was Christmas Eve afternoon when we called the Pep Boys on Loucks road and were told to bring it in by 2:15pm and they would be able to look at the tire. We arrived prior to 2pm and proceeded to be treated poorly, having the technician make a sarcastic comment "dont they have better things to do? " While in the waiting room you could hear the technician continue to complain loudly about having to work on the car, slamming tools down and slamming doors on the car. The tire was fixed, which allowed us to go to our family Christmas and on to church. However the next morning we noticed a dent in the drivers door that could only have happened if someone slammed the door open and hit something. It was pretty clear that this must have happened while in the Pep Boy shop since we had not parked near anything that would have done this type damage and we knew it wasnt there prior to taking it into the shop. It was very disappointing to have a vehicle damaged and been treated so disrespectfully, will not be returning to Pep Boy. Hopefully this may bring to light the poor customer treament so others wont have to experience the same.

Hook, Line, and Sucker. They got me! My car started leaking antifreeze, so I called AAA and asked where to tow it. They said pep boys, so I went. They charged $40 just to look at it, and made me sign a paper to lock me into paying that... I had a bad feeling, but I just went with it because my car already got towed here and I cant really move it. Got a call later saying it would be $175 to replace ONE PIPE, in addition to the $40. $225 all together. They also said I needed 2 additional pipes replaced and a new radiator, totaling $900. heh. hehe. HAHAHA. No. Completely maddening. Called AAA, who came to the rescue, dealt with pep boys for me, and are currently towing my car to a better mechanic, who quoted me at $65 for labor, $20 for each new pipe. Saving me probably around $200. 5 minutes later I get a call from Pep Boys, letting me know my car will be held hostage until I pay the $40 for looking at it. I KNEW I had a bad feeling about that... So at the end of the day they got me. Even trying this place was a very expensive mistake. Dont let them make a fool of you too.

Consumer tip: Dont service your car at Pep Boys, they are run-of-the-mill extortionists. They will try to trick you into believing there is something wrong with your vehicle in order to sell you unnecessary additional services. They failed me on emissions due to factors PA emissions guidelines disregard, then attempted to offer diagnostic services only to determine what the cause of my vehicles problems are, which would have inevitably lead to additional costs to fix problems not related to emissions inspection. When shown paperwork regarding emissions testing guidelines for the state of PA which stated that the check engine codes that resulted in the emissions failure are to be ignored for my car, they argued that those codes were not the cause of the emissions failure. It states on the paperwork provided "Failed Emissions - Recommended diagnostic for check engine codes." Their employees are incompetent, and will screw you out of money, whether they know it or not. They do not know PA emissions law. Please, for the sake of our species, dont support these thieves.

I had my brake pads replaced with the highest quality before going to pep boys. Had noise and had it checked out at pep boys. They recommended replacing all 4 rotors including the brake pads. They said the brake pads had alot of meat left but were no good?? I decided to do fronts only mechanic didnt clean thin layer of oil off rotors. Soon after, I was pulled over by a cop who said " I pulled you over because I thought your brakes were on fire" I realized after getting out that there was smoke coming from my brakes. I told the cop I just got my front brakes replaced at pep boys. He said they probably didnt clean off the new rotors. I called Manger at pep boys, who stated "Thats a normal procedure and it should be ok after 50 miles or so". Thats BS and another way to push/save a minute if you asked me.

my company vehicle was towed here and was told they would look at it but might not be able to fix it that day.[manager 1].after 1 1/2 hours nobody even looked at it. after that [manager2] stated they wouldnt be able to look at it till the next day.being stranded 2 hours from home, after being lied too, treated worse than a dog, with no concern for another human being i wouldnt let pep boys look at my flashlight to see if they could replace the light bulb. they did however did take car after car into the bays to put new tires on many cars after letting us sit outside with no concern for us. pep boys can go to hell.
