I dont have the words to adequately described the continual non-sense myself and my neighbors have experienced from literally everyone at this branch. Thoroughly confused by the alleged good reviews. Sorry folks but those have got to be fake. Ive been a resident for over 2 years and its been pulling teeth to get mail. The first few months I literally didnt get any mail - even though my name was on the box everything was returned to sender. The MAJOR problems started when a box was too large to be left in the box. I was told I had to come into the post office to pick it up. They adamantly refused delivery insisting I had to pick it up. I drove 15 miles round-trip. Once inside an over weight balding guy with a pissy attitude and squeaky voice insisted the reason mail couldnt be left at my door was because my house was more than a half a mile from the road. I said thats not true to which he rudely and repeatedly insisted it was. I live there - you dont nor do you even deliver the mail (I since learned my neighbors have been dealing with this for 6 years - yes 6 years!! and thats how this guy so easily knew my address. 6 years my neighbors complained and nothing was done.) I repeatedly told him it is NOT more than a half a mile - yet he kept insisting it was. It went so far as Dave the actual post master at this branch coming out and measuring it from the road and then calling me to insist it was in fact more than half a mile. (He also stated that when he drove to my house he honked and when I didnt come out he left. Ugh...what?!?! I worked from home at this time with my desk at the window - I saw his SUV pull up - drive past my house - never stopping nor honking and then he left). Technically they dont have to deliver mail to the door as he insisted my house was considering a rural route. I had to then apply for an exemption. Again I told him its not more than a half a mile to which the post master Dave literally started yelling at me, "ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR?!?!" I couldnt help but laugh. No - Im saying youre wrong - its not more than half a mile. He continued to yell this at me and then - even though I didnt say anything rude he hung up on me because he refused to speak with anyone that would call him a liar (those words never came out of my mouth). Instead I got in the car with my iPhone and drove down the road and subsequently posted a YouTube video online and then followed up with Patrick Donahue the actual Post Master General to prove it was only 1/3 of a mile from my door to the road. After years myself and my neighbors finally got mail delivered to the door. Well sometimes. During all this nonsense they went so far as to actually hide mail I left in the box to be delivered to a friend in Texas. Weeks went by and the item was never received. When I pitched a fit again with the Post Master General and told them my friends husband was the general manager at the NBC affiliate as he was doing a story on how inept the post office is - 6 weeks later - they oddly found the letter - only to return it to me saying it didnt have enough postage. I immediately dropped the letter off at the post office in West Ashley - never putting more postage on it - and ta daaaa - letter delivered - no problem. This nonsense of returning mail to me stating it didnt have enough postage on it happened several times. I of course cuss worse than a sailor now on the rare instance I have to deal with them - its the only thing they seem to respond to. A friend who lives further down on Johns Island has also experienced nonsense from this post office. The manager at the UPS store has also had customers come in all the time ranting how horrible staff is and in particular Dave. The rest of the nonsense would take to long to write - I could literally be here for hours. Cant wait to move from here. Its non-stop Jerry Spring drama but kudos to these government employees getting to keep their jobs. I would have been fired long ago if I ever treated people as poorly as those folks do.

I dont live on Johns Island, but my business is on Johns Island and use a Johns Island PO box for my business. The service there has always been straight forward and professional. I used this branch to apply for passports for my entire family, and the process was quick, painless and personable. I just read a review from an unhappy resident, (Karen Moran) and would have to say that her first paragraph makes it clear what type of person she is!

Other USPS locations seem to dread talking with customers, even had one location where an employee picked up the phone to stop it from ringing muttered "uggh" then hung up. Had to get a passport pretty quick without a appointment. Wish I could remember the guys name, guy with a beard who dyes it red occasionally. Anyway he bared with me and got my passport done.

Love the Johns Island Post Office. Please make no mistake, that is not their lunch hour, they are working in the back part of that time. Find it inconvenient at times but dont really know the story behind it. The staff there have been over the top, outstanding. No, not related, employed, etc. just a resident of Johns Island.

The only thing I dont like is the lunch time from 1pm till 2:30 pm. It gets me every time and I end up having to wait till 2:30 when ALL the schools let out and I inevitably get stuck in the traffic from hades.

Wish they opened for more than ONE hour on Saturdays. Its kind of ridiculous, also if they didnt have an hour and a half lunch break M - F it would be nice too.
