I was lied to and the staff didnt provide me enough information when I signed up (4/22/16) at Texas Family Fitness in Allen, Texas. I ended up paying $104.14 initial fee for a family of 4. During that time, I informed the staff that I have 2 more sons that I will eventually add to the plan in May. Late April, my step-son moved in with us so we went ahead and add him to the plan. At that time, my husband ended up paying $102.82 just to add his son to the plan. The same staff member told my husband that we would save a lot of money if we were to add him to the plan when we signed up. UMMM...you should of told us then when you knew that we will be adding 2 more soon. I was not happy and I felt cheated and ripped off by the gym. I sent a letter to the corporate office and was followed up by the gym manager. He said that he wont be able to do anything about it. Then May 2, I found out that I have a payment due of $125 for the monthly due and the annual fee of $25/per member. I was confused and went to the gym and spoke to the same manager, he explains that every year they charge their member an annual fee of $25/per member and that the fee was not applied to the initial fee only after the 25 days from the sign up date. Ugh! Really? Seriously? What other fees that you didnt enclose during the time that we signed up?! Immediately, we decided right there and then that we want to cancel our membership. He spent 30 minutes explaining that it wasnt fair that we didnt receive the info first hand. Of course, he apologizes but really cant do anything about it because the business is privately owned. And based on the reviews from their previous employees, the main complaints are that the staff are very conniving and would do anything to cheat their customers in order to get pay....quote, "They treat you terribly and they lie and steal from their customers." Another quote, "Management does not appear to care about members only their payments." I would like to share my experience with Texas Family Fitness to you so you wont fall into their trap. Please also note that they are not BBB accredited (Better Business Bureau) and they have received many complaints and the corporate office will not and have not done anything about it. Oh, there are only 3 people running the corporate office. If you have the same experience I would advice that you would post your experience so others will not be cheated and have this business go out of business. We dont need businesses like them to be in our community so they can take advantage of our local business support.

I liked Express Fitness when I first joined... but now I feel like the employees (actually one in particular, but I wont use his name) lied and manipulated me. Then this past December I purchased 10 personal training sessions, paid for 5 of them up front and set the other 5 for a later date. I had only used 3 of my sessions and then found out that I was pregnant. My midwife advised me to cancel the training (although she said that I could still walk on a treadmill or elliptical). My midwife explained that since I was a beginner, this new routine could be dangerous to the baby. I spoke to the sales person over the phone and told him that I needed to cancel the 2nd payment and the second set of 5 sessions. He told me that he would take care of it. That it "wasnt a problem". Two weeks later the charge hit my bank account. I immediately drove to the gym to speak with this sales person. I am still appalled at the way I was treated. I was told that there was no way to cancel the transaction and that I was out of luck. When I confronted him about the promises he made over the phone, his response was "I am sorry that is the way you interpreted it Maam". The sales person then told me that he had spent the last 3 weeks trying to get in contact with me about the sessions but accused me of disconnecting my phone. (FYI - I STILL have the same phone number). I was so offended by his behavior that I canceled my entire account. I did not make my PT purchase with the intend on becoming pregnant so that I could cancel... I had honestly planned on looking hot in a bikini this summer, not like a beached whale! But now I have paid for 7 personal training sessions that I cannot physically use (I may end up looking like a whale, but I am not willing to risk loosing my baby). I feel that their personal training agreements (no matter how "nice" the trainers) are liable to be a complete rip-off, I recommend to anyone not to purchase if there is any chance of pregnancy. and the customer service is NOT helpful in unplanned situations. They are insulting and just plain old MEAN. This sales person doesnt feel bad if he makes pregnant ladies cry. I will never make a purchase there again...

This is a warning to anyone who joins Texas Family Fitness. They will take your money and then they will do whatever is possible to keep it at all costs. DO NOT SIGN UP HERE. I went in to look at the new location in WEST FRISCO. The general manager Tim Spicer was very disrespectful.... Another manager named David Amsler is very deceiving as well... I have a family member who worked for the company.. The companys district manager name is Brooks Johnson. He brags about how much money he makes a year in his meetings with his employees. He belittles them and tries to bully them as well... They do not care about your health or your fitness.. The only thing they are concerned with is how they can take your money, and how they can make a bonus off of you... Managers get a percentage of the club enhancement fee that is charged once a year. You are told that the club enhancement fee is for any new equipment or any maintenance that is needed. This is a company that is more concerned about the profit they make off of you... Not customer service oriented.. Not friendly... If you sign up for personal training... Make sure you cancel it within 72 hours or it is non-refundable.... BEWARE... If you spend 3000 dollars on personal training... You will lose that money even if you dont use a single session after 72 hours....

Ive worked out here off an on for a few years because they are the cheapest place in town and I can walk to it from home. The equipment is generally sub-par, the barbells and dumbells are weak and worn out, there is only one power rack which is flimsy, the benches are all set at a weird, almost unusable bar height, the weight area is NEVER ORGANIZED WHATSOEVER, all of the machines whether cardio or weight are poorly maintained and out of order machines are often never marked or fixed, and the amount of less than useful weight machines vastly dominates the weight area. The staff is friendly but the trainers are absolutely clueless. If you are new to fitness, please skip getting training here, just do research outside of the gym with the multitude of resources online (reddit, youtube, eliteFTS, etc) and bring that knowledge into your workouts yourself. The members are a mixed bag but generally polite enough. The music is a mix of 70s-80s pop and top 40 dance mixes. If you enjoy that then more power to you. Overall, its a cheap, convenient place to work out in. I would recommend it to a friend, just dont expect to get more than you pay for.
