I recently relocated to Austin from Birmingham, Alabama and was elated to find such an amazing space with equally amazing stylist. I found The Hair Clinic via a google search for black hair stylists + Austin. I found several salons through the search and by the process of elimination narrowed my choices down to the top 3 based on reviewing the websites, portfolios and client reviews. The Hair Clinic received high marks in the afformentioned areas. I must admit, I was still on the fence until I saw a photo of one of my most favorite people, Audrey Hepburn, on their website. There is a giant pop-art photo of her in the salon and I felt sort of a kindredness w/this photo. But I digress ... I made an appointment w/Chari (based on the reviews of ppl whod gotten extensions). The receptionist was an absolute doll! They were booked solid when I called, but I explained I had sort of a 911 situation w/my hair and she worked w/Chari to get my appointment moved up. A week later (10/29), I made my way to the salon and wasnt there 5 minutes b/f we got started! She doesnt overlap her clients. The salon is very posh, yet there is a zen energy to the space that I could appreciate - calm, no one coming in trying to sell you dvds or mix cds. I was getting a new hair weave & opted to have my extensions bonded b/c I get really bad headaches from sew-ins and was pleasantly surprised at Charis technique. She took her time removing my tracks and opted for a sensitive scalp relaxer by Design - which worked surprisingly well. I usually get a regular strength relaxer, but the sensitve scalp worked just as well. Speaking of products, they use Design and Mizani - two of my favs and go-to styling products. From start to finish I was in and out in three quick hours looking and feeling fierce. Chari is an excellent stylist and super friendly. I would definitely recommend to anyone whos looking for a quality professional stylist and hair care experience - both of which are plentiful at this posh hair oasis. Yes, I called it a posh hair oasis! Its that good. You should totally go ~

I moved to Austin from Houston three years ago and one of my primary concerns was finding a quality hair stylist. Like many women, Ive been to more than my share of stylists who left much to be desired. My hair stylist in Houston is awesome and Id come to trust her, so I was wary of anyone new. When the service is good, Im loyal to a business. After trying a few stylists in Austin, I was not satisfied. My hair was done ok, but the level of professionalism was truly lacking. So, I made the trek to Houston every 8 weeks for my sew-in. Until one day last spring... I needed my hair done and didnt have time to get to Houston. I called The Hair Clinic and was able to see Keria that same day! The salon is modern, clean, and feels professional. I hate going to salons where the stylists and clients are cussing up a storm, watching trashy TV shows, and random people are coming in and out, selling hair, food, bootleg CDs, etc. Keria was very nice, asked me what I wanted, did what I asked, and I was in and out very quickly. She made small talk, but didnt seem bothered that Im naturally reserved. (It also helps that the salon plays contemporary music in the background.) Ive seen Keria on one other occasion and the service was the same---great. I needed my hair washed, conditioned, and curled. I was especially pleased because I made a last minute appointment the day before and the receptionist was able to squeeze me. I was double booked, BUT Keria handled both of us efficiently. I had an appointment at 11 and was out by 1! The only thing that makes me take off a star is the price. Its a little more expensive than other salons. But, I have to keep in mind that they usually do not double (or triple...or quadruple) book, the shop is located in a prime (read: expensive) area, and honestly, Austin is in short supply of quality Black hair salons. So, the price is understandable. Ill probably always travel to see my stylist in Houston for major services, but when my hair needs a quick refresher, Ill definitely go see Keria at The Hair Clinic.

All I went in for was a trim because Im trying to grow my hair out and I was very impressed. Although my visit was very simple I was still skeptical because Ive heard horror stories of stylists wanting to cut your hair extremely short because of terrible split ends. My ends were pretty jacked and she (Latasha) hooked me up while giving me tips on how to keep up my hair and told me how often I should come for a trim if Im trying to grow out my hair. I also liked how they dont try to up-sell you too much. The casual mention of other services is enough but I was never pressured into getting more services. Doing this actually makes me want to get more done because my hair has been growing very well and its on its way down my back :-) Not to mention how professional and nice they are in there. I came prepared with a book to wait but the only chair my but hit was the styling chair! Didnt have a chance to look in my book; I was in and out in under 20 minutes and that was after she double checked my head to make sure the cut was even. I have an appointment for another trim tomorrow but will definitely be coming here for a dramatic change once I decide what I want.

I have to write this review! I just moved to Austin a week and a half ago. Ive had the same sew-in (protective styling) for the last 4 months due to my stylist moving in February and me not being ready to try someone new. Obviously, Im loyal to my stylist when I find a good one! Today, I had my first appointment in Austin with Nat and I am just blown away by my experience. As she was taking my hair down she asked me to tell her a littlw about my hair and routines! I loved this bc she didnt just jump right in. She was interested in hearing what Ive been doing to it. Im 4 years natural so this put me at ease... My hair was super dirty and dry but she didnt shy away from the work. My appointment was at 1 and i left by 2:50 with a beautiful thermal straightened healthy hairstyle. I even let her trim my hair and she didnt cut too much!! Thanks so much for this experience, Nat! Ive already made a next appointment to visit her b4 my bosses fly in for a meeting next week! I will be slaaaaaaaying hunny!

I went to the Hair Clinic. The chick that did my hair "jacked" me up. I also made an appointment and came in with a picture of what I wanted. She claimed she could do the style, so I came back for the appointment. I wanted extensions. She did not tell me to bring in hair, so I did not. She opens up her purse, used an open bag of what was obviously used hair, and fooled around in my hair while on the phone the entire time. When I looked at what she did, it looked like my 12 year old niece did it. I was on my way to a cruise the next day. I was devastated. I did pay, but regret that I did. I told her that I really didnt like it and she blamed me. Also, she charged me $90. I was embarrassed on my trip and vowed never to go back. Buyer beware. The ratings leave you thinking they care about the quality of the product. They do not. Results vary. The money was the only concern in my case.
