As of someone with a general knowledge in the automotive industry and taking ASE certified course through out a 3 year span in my H.S trade skill program i feel royally screwed by Kirby (Shop owner) at my local shop in canyon lake. I have brought the truck to him before for some work and it was of reasonable rate and back to me in a good time, same kind of experience you would have gotten at any name brand major automotive shop at near the same rate I just would rather have my money flow back in to small business such as Kirby at hillside automotive, but due to the circumstances of charging me 533$ on a wheel bearing that cost 135$ for the low end part with 1 year warranty Or: the most expensive part at 240$ for the wheel bearing needed to fix my truck. I recently purchased a vehicle that is my get to work gas saver car and had truck parked st house o my using it for odd jobs. I even brought the mercury by the shop wanting Kirby to check it out and make sure everything was up to par on this vehicle I just purchased cause I was worried about it cause check engine light came on 2 days after driving. He didnt have time to look at it that day but he came out and I turned it on and he said sounds good looks good, but sadly my poor little car decided to throw a bearing in the engine causing this terrible sound. So first thing I do is try to take car to Kirby at hillside on a Friday at 8 am sharp so he can get to it early. Will it turns out he decided to take a trip in his 5.5 liter luxury Mercedes-Benz or maybe his massive Cummings turbo diesel truck up to Colorado to get some "septic" work done and made a quick trip up there and back really quick.. hmm kinda odd if you ask me as we have numerous septic companys right here in Texas maybe thats code for some sketchy business because thats what Kirby at hillside proved to me. He didnt charge me nothing to tell me my motor was fried but I told him ok I have my truck and I know the front left wheel bearing is out. Sure enough didnt even have to look at anything else because I sent him directly to the source of the problem. Well he knows Im a broke college student working night shifts and I needed my truck back asap as I wouldnt have the 1,200 needed for new engine I my gas sipper. The job should have cost 234 for the highest quality part and takes no more than 45 minutes of labor even at the most expensive shops is around 125 leaving Mr for a total no more than maybe 350$ but he smiled in my face and told me he makes money selling parts. I am not stupid you get your parts from Napa auto went down there with a receipt print out of parts price and he told me he makes 100$ to call the local Napa and have the come deliver it for free which he made sure to notify me off. So he essentially took 250-300$ out from under me for no reason what so ever except maybe personal gain or he is no longer passionate about helping everyday people get around and fixing cars expecially when he sees what type of customer he WAS dealing with I was going to loyally bring all my vehicles for service there but not after how bad he just screwed me. I am eating Ramen noodles and frying potatoes because Kirby at hillside took all my money.

Kirby is the second worst mechanic Ive ever had, he told me after a diagnostic my cars fuel sensor was not the issue, fixed some other random part to my car instead, Im still getting incorrect fuel sensor readings, he even tried to add the wrong type of oil to my car during the oil change and luckily my mom saw what he was doing and told him to stop and not put the incorrect type of oil into my car, he argued with her insisting that putting any type of oil would be fine and she told him you can only put 30 or 40 in my vehicle and he said no thats not true trying to make her seem stupid, she finally got out the owners manual and showed him the exact type of oil it needed and he backed off, this is of course after not putting any oil in the vehicle at all even though we paid 76 dollars for oil and after he realized he forgot to put oil in my car and I called complaining about the oil levels that I checked once I got home thats when he said bring it back and when we did he tried putting the wrong oil in my car. Needless to say I still have the same issue with my car and the only thing that changed was I met a scumbag who likes to rip off people who he assumes do not know whats going on, and Im short 676 dollars.

If I could leave zero stars I would. They towed my fiancées 2008 Kia Rio to there shop, less then 5 miles away. Cost around 100$.. Then said theyd have to pull the engine because the timing belt was shot. The following day tried to tell us the cams were bent and warped. We told them wed come get the car, they had the car waiting for us on a Sunday. Of course the day they were closed and no one was there. When I picked up the car the engine compartment was in pieces. Missing bolts and the freaking maf sensor! They stole parts from us. NEVER . NEVER TRUST THESE PEOPLE!

Having done several repairs with Kirby. After the last job his mechanic failed to put my spair under the fuel tank they repaired. When I asked for it. .he blows me off as though Im accusing him of stealing. No. I just want My Spare! His attitude. ..s@x.
