Not many detailed reviews on here. After 2 years this is what Ive taken away from Summit. Personally its not my cup of tea but if youre curious about it, check it out. I can only recount my experiences. Yoga is the best service they offer and Im not even that into yoga. Was a member for 2 years. Quit after seeing multiple injuries and that in climbing it seems that its only a matter of time until you get injured, not worth the risk to me. The feel of the community didnt click with me either. Ropes could be changed more often and its hard to trust auto belays in general. The ropes in the back are risky since when you fall you swing around like a wrecking ball and hope you dont get tangled in rope or crash into someone else. More experienced belayers may be able to counter act that swing, but hey were not all pros. Beware if there are large groups of kids as they are usually running around which makes ropes and bouldering more of a hassle having to look out for kids as well as yourself and your climber. Routes on bouldering seemed to have become more risky over time which turned me away from bouldering. Little foot chips are the worst as they get coated in rubber within days and are never cleaned or replaced until the routes are reset, so its a high risk slip and fall. Whats worse is when these are at the end of the route where an unexpected fall is not the greatest. Setting holds farther apart is also not a way to make something more challenging either. The pad also seems prone to low spots which can lead to bad landings both here and the Carrollton location. A friend had some major injuries from landing in a bad spot in the pad on our very first visit. After multiple injuries that part of the wall has since been decommissioned thankfully. I tried one competition and was turned off immediately from that sector. Overcrowded, unorganized, and sandbagger competitors ruin it. Better to watch than to try and participate. Free beer and food, whats not to enjoy for spectating? The upstairs area is nice for training but could use a better floor. Maybe something like an antimicrobial rubber floor or something. The sweat and funk soaked blue pad isnt the most inviting. Wifes phone was stolen from the cubby area this past week which is right behind the counter and under camera surveillance. Either due to bad placement or it being busy, the footage provided no help as to what happened. Not sure if it was a "nice" fellow member or a random visitor. There are no lockers or ways to secure your belongings save for leaving things in your car or you have a lockable bag. If youre going to climb at any location just be very aware for and of your safety as well as your valuables and take the alphas that climb with a grain of salt. Personally I wont return to a summit location but thats just me.

REVIEW FOR NEWBIES (not for climbing junkies) This is for you if you are curious about Summit and want to figure out if you should try it out. I will use FEAR as a reference for this review. First: This place is chill. People are friendly. They will be happy to help you learn as a beginner. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO BE NEW HERE. Second: Climbing is risky. There are falls, slips, bumps, uncontrolled swinging from ropes, and injuries. These can be mitigated through proper use. And frankly, maybe we should all do slightly dangerous activities more often... probably good for us. But there is an element of danger. BE APPROPRIATELY AFRAID OF THIS. Third: There is a pretty great vibe between the majority of people that come to this location. Most everyone is open and will share advice on a route. However, stuff does get stolen here occasionally. There is no place to secure your belongings, so I recommend leaving valuables in the car. BE APPROPRIATELY AFRAID OF THIS Finally: It is GREAT whole body training. If you are into functional training, myo-fascial development or integrated physical development, climbing is great. The body was designed to be used for more than repetitive motion. Climbing is a physical training practice. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TRY IT. My whole family has a membership. My kids actually prompted me to join. Ive become a huge fan, and climb often and enjoy the figuring our the problem aspect of climbing. I find it way more engaging than just going to the gym. That said, there is a pint-sized functional training area that I use, which I really appreciate. I can get a lot of the basics of strength training and mobility done there as well. Finally, you can get gear rental rolled into your membership, so there is nothing you need to bring in order to get started with trying it out for yourself.

This gym is more focused on bouldering (where you only climb to a safe height without a rope and then climb back down or fall down). They have 2 feet deep padding to fall on in their bouldering section and are regularly changing out entire walls routes. They recently added a couple of auto belay systems in the ropes section, and they are changing out and updating sections of the ropes areas as well. Staff is friendly and helpful, and safe, but not obnoxious about things. Overall I have been very satisfied with the gym. They recently started free yoga classes, and if you have a membership here you can go to the gym in Grapevine for free too. It is great.

Hands down best bouldering I have done in a gym. They have tons of routes that are changed regularly and have a great amount of variety. I could go there 5 times a week and still have new problems to work on. The staff are friendly and really helpful if you need some help getting started, which is great because Ive been to gyms where the staff just sit behind the desk and stare at you with a blank face. If youre in the Dallas area and like bouldering I would highly recommend you check this place out.

Ive recently rejoined the climbing community and am very pleased with Summit Dallas. The staff is really on top of things, especially when it comes to safety. Routes are changed often enough to give more experienced climbers something new to work on each time they come in. Many routes of varying difficulty are set to accommodate different ability levels. The gym even offer a variety of yoga classes free to members - a big highlight for me!

This place is amazing. You will definitely not find any other place in Dallas like this. If youre a beginner, dont be afraid! It may be a challenge, but the reward of rubbing it in someones face that you reached the top is more than worth it. Experienced climbers be ready for an enjoyable challenge! Again, this place is amazing, and everybody should go. Now. Why are you still here?! Get out of the house and go!!

My friend and I checked this place out yesterday for the first time and we had a blast! Its a large facility with a lot of different sections pertaining to different experience levels. James was extremely helpful and patient as he gave us a tutorial of the equipment. He was very funny as well! It was a great overall body work out and I will be back next weekend!

We had a kids event here recently for our elementary school kids. The staff was awesome. So helpful, involved, and enthusiastic. They cheered on the kids as they climbed and made sure everyone got a chance to participate. Even though they attract some hardcore climbers, it really is a family-friendly joint. Kudos to Summit!
